  1. Pineapple. That is very daring. In what sense is it double? Have you met some new friends as a result?
  2. Have you heard of Dr. Beeching? One of the techniques of his rail closure programme was to count passengers using a particular line. If it was a branch line to a seaside resort, he would tend to get the count done on a wet evening in February. That sort of thing.
  3. Can I thank you for being so patient with all my questions. It won’t win me over to Carnival, I don’t think, but always available smoked salmon sandwiches make it a close thing. 🙂
  4. Does he go happily into his basket when you go to Pembrokeshire?
  5. Well, a cup of tea and just a cake is nice to fill the gap until dinner. On Cunard all I usually have is tea and a scone, especially since smoked salmon sandwiches seem to have vanished. I hope the Carnival tea is free.
  6. We used to have jam doughnuts for Friday break at boarding school. I’ve never liked them since.
  7. So what’s the system? Are they available in a special place or just in the buffet with other stuff. Please tell me those promising looking lunchtime cakes were included? Do Carnival do something equivalent to afternoon tea?
  8. I can feel my teeth twingeing just from looking at it. And I realise nice bacon improves almost anything, but not this. Again I can only say eeeeeeek, with more es, because not only are you eating it, but you were willing to pay for it. Why is that by the way?
  9. I don’t pick up my feet very well when I walk, and my shoes tended to get stuck against the plastic more than with teak. Not something I can really blame Cunard for.
  10. I think things like carpets get scruffy in a very few years or even months and have to be replaced. I can’t really see any of the things you mention are a sign of age, so much as approaching a minor refit. I don’t know where your cabin was, but the rattling at the stern seems to have been a problem throughout her life.
  11. Yes, I realised the big black blob was water, but I thought the stuff between the planks might be something else. What did you think of the plastic prom deck on QE?
  12. Interesting to see she has a proper wooden deck, unlike QE, but what is the black gunky stuff between the planking?
  13. Other than simple numbers, what are the signs you see of getting old?
  14. Well, they certainly look homemade. My mother could have got them more even than that. In fact, I might on a good day. 🙂 Do they taste good?
  15. What with avoiding Russia, avoiding the Black Sea, not being too keen on North Africa, being banished from Venice, and perhaps other ports, it must be getting harde and harder for the shipping companies to put together itineraries.
  16. I thought that might baffle you. The only sport I’m interested in is cricket, but we won’t go there. My mother’s family came from Sunderland which is why I know. 🙂
