  1. The first person was AT the Captain’s announcement. How is that conjecture? You quote is someone questioning if that was true.
  2. Just wondering, now you are back, if you made it to the meeting point for Native Choice OK? I heard the weather wasn’t too good in Costa maya that day?
  3. Malecon21 has been our go-to spot pre-Covid. Service was lacking early last year but I am hoping it has recovered by now. Out-of-town there are several new contenders and old stand-bys. unfortunately many places along the malecon have adopted an AI model which isn’t usually what we want.
  4. Not sure about “safest”, or what your particular area of concern is, but agree it is probably “easiest” to stay at the port. A 2-year old isn’t going to know, or appreciate, the difference and there is certainly enough to occupy and visually entertain a toddler. It will be easier to return to the ship for naps, food and drink when necessary, without the need for transportation. It can be very hot and the pier is a long walk. There is certainly a pool, but not one we have ever used, as we have always gone to town or out of town beach club. Therefore I am not familiar with the depth, method of entry, or whether swim diapers are allowed. There is no beach, but there are some man-made sandy areas.
  5. Never done Playa Mia as it always sounds crowded. Chankanaab is good but went with children a little older than two. We have done day passes to Allegro and Park Royal at that age. Allegro has good beach and kiddie pool with waterpark. Park Royal is convenient as no transport necessary, so cheaper and easier to get back and forth to ship. Inside buffet out of heat, small kids pool and kids club. It has been some time since we went to either.
  6. Depends on time of day and which pier you are going from. $25-30 for 4 people each way. 15-25 minutes.
  7. I am not sure I understand the question. When did anyone have their the bags searched exiting the ship and if so, by whom? There may well be restrictions and checks imposed by local officials when entering a country and passing through a local checkpoint. Packaged goods are always safest from many aspects. I am not sure why you would risk the hassle of doing something else.
  8. There are lots of “beach clubs” but all along the same stretch of beach unless you go out of town which I doubt you would do after a tour.
  9. Official policy in the terms and conditions but sometimes there is compensation - not required, and not as common these days. Some insurance policies offer compensation, especially from UK if you have one of those policies.
  10. OK, someone may be able to help better now. Sorry i haven’t been on Harmony.
  11. Not sure what “walking”means? https://buccanos.com/en/amenities it says there is a menu but i am not seeing it! Or there is https://www.barefootincozumel.com Used to be highly recommended but I see she has injured her hand.
  12. As several have recommended best to contact one of the insurance brokers to discuss best policy for your specific needs. A lot depends on why you need to cancel. I have no experience making claims due to weather so I don’t know about air fare itself but it is my understanding that once you have left home if something happens further expenses could be claimed under trip interruption. Of course that would depend on your policy.
  13. There is sometimes a trolley that runs the length of the pier, otherwise there may be wheelchair assistance from the ship. It has always been a little unpredictable and even then you have to walk all through the port area to wherever the transport pick-up is located. Driver may be able to come into the port to pick up someone with mobility issues from the taxi stand now but one person would probably need to go outside the port first to meet them. Coming back they should be able to drop you inside the port but you still have the whole port area and length of pier to walk. Return wheelchairs are on first come first served basis so allow plenty of time. We have always found it best to bring our own light weight transport chair for ports and airports and especially for Costa Maya. The walk will be the same for any place you want to visit outside the port.
  14. Unfortunately those days at Tropicante are gone and many changes in Mahahual.
  15. No, Langosta is actually IN town, well right on the southern edge. Puerta Maya and International are close together, 3 miles south of Langosta. Harmony will be at International.
  16. Didn’t notice El Pescador- i think you added after I replied? Do you mean on the east side?
  17. International Pier is the RCCL pier unless you are onna smaller older ship then sometimes they dock at Punta langosta in town. You can see all three locations on google maps and do a virtual walk. 6 minute walk from International, probably 5-10 drive from Langosta depending on traffic.
  18. You woulld do best to talk to someone at one of the broker insurance sites regularly recomended on here for your specific needs snd filters. Check out the insurance forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/499-cruisetravel-insurance/
  19. +1 Agree on all points, only proviso would be NOT Bob Marley when sargassum is bad. We also liked Palancar before the crowds found it and it is probably time for a revisit. We haven’t been since before Covid but I see they have an impressive new website! We like Buccanos but haven’t been since they sold off part to Islands next door so although it is smaller it is probably quieter without the cruise ship excursions. I am glad they have come to their senses and have the same entrance fees for cruisers and land visitors now.

I am not sure where you are seeing this? If this is the tourist menu ( not locals only with a card,) why not just pay in pesos if it is so advantageous? Are you sure you are looking at a current menu and one menu with both prices listed? Which club are you looking at? Some are less than honest in Mahahual?
  21. So that is two prices on one menu? Not the locals menu? Which bar is that?
  22. By choice we always pay in pesos but often times, especially in the tourist bars, the peso menus is only for locals and resident ex-pats. Also it depends what exchange rate they are using compared to the actual exchange rate.
