  1. Some have reported they are able to split, others say they were denied. Sorry this doesn't answer you, but that is, unfortunately, the reality with MSC. That being said, I suspect if you are polite about it, you can make it happen...
  2. Wait wait wait wait...are you saying that what happens on an MSC ship depends on your particular circumstances instead of a fixed policy??? Shocking!!!!
  3. Try filing a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). I've gotten great results from them with many large companies. I've never filed a complaint with Celebrity, but I did with Carnival and it got resoleved.
  4. So, I went to purchase laundry a couple of months ago for my Poesia cruise and noticed it was missing. I called several times and all of the reps were confused as to why it was missing. Then, last week, I logged in and saw the prices you saw. Kind of sucks because NO WAY am I paying those prices. As others said, they are almost double. Obviously it was missing so they could rework the prices. My cruise is 21 days, so I need to figure out how to pack better 🙂
  5. I think the OP is talking about the huge 5000 mi wide blob of it heading towards FL
  6. If you cancel YC you will lose the deposit.
  7. Thanks! I saw this reply in another thread and this is what I plan to do.
  8. How easy was it to get a taxi once you were downtown?
  9. LOL, not sure what list you looked at, but it is a communications app - texting and calling...absolutely nothing to do with social media. Perhaps wherever you looked erroneously tagged it as social media because it's owned by Facebook...
  10. WhatsApp is not social media. Think of it as an alternative to texting/wifi calling. In fact, on some carriers (T-Mobile for example) you can't text with the normal wifi package...but you can send texts via WhatsApp. The *only* drawback is that whoever you talk to needs to have it also, but it's free, so not that big of a deal...
  11. Again, shocked you got this working on Carnival as their T&C specifically call out vpn as not being supported. Kudos to you if you got that working...
  12. You did this on Carnival? What level of wifi did you purchase? I agree about the use of the VPN, if the OP''s VPN will do that (i.e., if they've paid for whatever level that allows them to pick their specific country). I'm really surprised you got this working on Carnival as they lock so much down with their wifi...
  13. This works on an MSC cruise specifically? And to be clear, the OP's question wasn't how to access his NAS...he can do that. He wanted to open security for a specific country and that country only.
  14. I'll be in Reykjavik on a cruise and planned to take a taxi from the port to the Sun Voyager statue (using that as a base for a self-guided walking tour). Does anyone know the approximate cost for a ride like that? Also, when it is time to return, is the Sun Voyager a good place to pick up a taxi or should we look for someplace else? Is the Old Harbor a good place to catch a taxi back to the port? TIA
  15. If this works for you - and I think it's a big if - it would be the only way for you to do what you want. However, the VPN mentioned in this thread is a little different from a general purpose VPN...whose servers may or may not be blocked. Since you said you use OpenVPN, I would see if someone onboard the ship you want can currently access it.
  16. That won't work...as mentioned, it will vary. So if you got someone to do that today, when you were on the ship it would most likely be different. Even if you did it while onboard, assuming MSC gets a dynamic address, it will not help you.
  17. This is a good answer if it will work on the ship's wifi. I don't think it will, but if it does then that a solution. Not sure if anyone has direct knowledge of this. And you may need to upgrade to a higher level of internet to get it to work, if possible at all.
  18. If you travel in 20 days you should be notified soon. I'd say a week at most, but with all things MSC, YMMV 🙂
  19. Your IP address will be an internal one...e.g., 192.168.xxx.xxx...you won't be assigned a publicly addressable IP. What you really want to know if the IP of MSC's router Think about it this way...at home, you have a bunch of devices connected to your wifi...they all will have addresses starting with 192.168.xxx.xxx. However, if you ping an external site, that will register with the IP of your router (or modem, or whatever device brings you wifi). I'm not sure anyone can answer you what that will be. The reason is, it should vary by how MSC connects to the internet. It will vary from ship to ship and possibly multiple times on the cruise if multiple providers are involved. Furthermore, the provider should be satellite, which isn't a "country" and usually assign *dynamic* IP addresses.
  20. Mostly...upgrade to YC always got the YC experience...
  21. Thank you so much for doing this. Was just trying to decide about a TA today...your post has made me think I'll do it.
  22. I'm not saying you're wrong about the T&C, I just asked for a link. Didn't realize it would trigger you. That being said, again, MSC doesn't control the bidding for upgrade process - it isn't their systems sending anything. I agree with you that their IT department sucks, but it seems just as crappy as the other cruise lines. But, the OP got the offer, so someone thought they were eligible regardless of what the T&C says.
  23. Do you have a link for this? And obviously this isn't correct as the OP received an offer to upgrade. And once you are in a YC cabin, you have all YC benefits. Period.
  24. Not 100% correct...first, you have to set your privacy settings to be able to receive them. Then you have to be on a sailing where there is an opening. But in general, yes, many do receive them...
  25. Who said or implied this? How else would you phrase it if not "have been offered?" Unfortunately MSC, as was mentioned above, does not control this...a third party does
