  1. I pack really light....but to show variation, I wear different and unusual jewelry every day! That way nobody notices "the same old t-shirt"...........
  2. Glad it was caught in time. Not to defend either doctor, but from personal experience I can tell you that's what they all do for constipaton. She must have been in dire pain for the hospital to ultimately do the CT scan.
  3. Other than "double points".....are there benefits to booking onboard?
  4. Because someone gave me a "like"today and this topic was brought to my attention: We were discussing Lyft I happened to take Lyft from Westchester to Manhattan 2 days ago The driver told me he gets:the name, what he will make and the duration of the trip. With that info he can accept or reject the job. It's only when he gets to the pickup spot that he finds out the destination of the trip. He said that drivers often turn down jobs that end in NYC because they can't get a pickup for the return trip. No TLC license.
  5. Here's our story: My husband grew up poor...and he grew old rich....thanks to me being a value shopper and him being "frugal". He said he'd "never have a butler"....but at 88, after colon cancer surgery I decided he needed one (or, let's say I needed one for him). So I splurged on an MSC Inside YC. It was like heaven. The Haven doesn't offer what he really liked about YC. Now he's feeling a little better and says "why do I need the butler....I like to be with the people". We're gonna be on the Escape....regular balcony....on 9/3. This cruise was booked a long time ago. I'm waiting to hear how much he likes "being with the people"....when he can't get his freshly grilled fish poolside!!!! (PS...we're in a balcony YC in April...whether he likes it or not!) If you can afford it....go for it. When you get older, you'll regret not doing it sooner.
  6. Good point. I also don't understand why they couldn't take the land portion of the trip.
  7. @DCGuy64 I think people assume if you book thru NCL....they guarantee you'll make it to the ship....like their excursions. Honestly....if I didn't read CC, what would I know? My "vast wealth" of cruising knowledge comes from reading posts and reviews...certainly not from cruise ship representatives or travel agents.
  8. In the first case...spending $60K on a trip...that includes multiple cross country flights....for 7 people...and not insuring it is just foolish. Anything, weather, illness, unforseen emergencies....could have ruined it. No common sense..... The second case...I wonder what kind of insurance she had. You have to understand what is covered and what isn't whenever you get insurance for anything..........
  9. I use an agent for YC...I get a nice discount. I tell him my cabin...the price I'm getting on line (including the 5% and 5%) and his price comes up to about 10% lower than that.
  10. @morpheusofthesea I'm not sure if this is a Mera thing, or I missed it on your list: There was a dedicated elevator within the YC...servicing only the YC. It got us to the pool deck witin seconds!
  11. Just be careful about logging out. If you don't....you'll use up your minutes. Even some non blonds have been known to forget!
  12. If I felt ill, I'd stay in the cabin....covid, cold, flu, noro etc. No matter what I had....I wouldn't go out of my way "to spread the love".
  13. They must give the TAs nice commissions for the YC bookings! Between the MSC discounts and his discounts I got something like 20% off...so we sprung for the balcony (Caribbean cruise). I have my eye on a Canadian cruise for next fall...and the interior will be just fine! ETA...just realized this is the NCL forum. We are going on the Escape next month, and DH (who doesn't get too involved with booking etc) was disappointed when he realized it's not gonna be YC. I have a feeling that this one will be our final NCL sailing.
  14. Seriously....no real need for the balcony. There is a dedicated elevator for the YC inside; we went from our cabin to the pool deck in about 60 seconds. The cabin itself was adequate, but the storage is limited. If you need 3 outfits a day with accessories you could have a problem, so pack light and you'll be fine. When I compared the price of the interior YC to the NCL "sailaway balcony" price....booking YC was a no-brainer.
  15. @azappraiser I completely get the cost vs value concept. For me, Haven has almost no value because what I like about YC doesn't exist in the Haven. And to be honest, I only tried YC because DH was having medical issues and I wanted to make life easy (for both of us). Once I tried it, at a price about double of my originally booked "balcony with the masses cabin"....there was no question that it was so worth it....it was invaluable.
  16. Two words: Yacht Club (MSC). You get a lot more bang for your buck (24/7 internet , drink package, spa....all included). One sailing in YC and I was sold. Buffet breakfasts and lunches on pool deck (not in the Haven)....personalized pizza delivery (not in the Haven)...add to the value.
  17. My husband's favorite day on a cruise.....the $10 etc T-Shirt sale day; and in port, he has to have one from every port!
  18. I have a place where I get 75% off....brings it down to normal price! I like their styles but not their stones........
  19. @pcakes122Hate to tell you, but Effy should be 1/4 of the marked price to get to FMV. In addition, their diamonds are very low quality....J color and inclulded. I got a glympse of the tag once. Effy is a master in marketing......... I'm not saying I would never buy an Effy....but never on a ship or in the islands. I got into a semi-heated discussion with a sales rep once when she was telling about "their quality"....I pointed out the info on the tag, and told her she should review the 4 Cs.
  20. Maybe dinner on the balcony in Bermuda, but not at sea........
  21. Truth be told, I got some "junk" on ships that looked great and blended in with "the real stuff". And some other "junk" that to this day remains unworn! Bottom line....don't spend more than you can afford to lose and don't buy things as investments.
  22. The one time I bought something that cost multiple thousands of dollars they had to size it and change the gold color on the setting. It was done well. But that was from the Turkish Diaspora company; I have seen them on cruises for quite a while. They can get away with "nonsense" because they're never gonna see you again.....
  23. Quick update: I ran into my friend yesterday. Asked her if she canceled the cruise. Her response was "not yet" because she's going to the doctor in a couple of weeks. So I asked her if she had insurance and she said that the PCC says she does. I'm not sure what the doctor has to do with this...other than she thinks the doctor can write her "a note". She wasn't slightly upset about a refund or FCC. And no, I'm not making any suggestions. If anyone remembers an episode of "2 1/2 Men"....where Heather Locklear was Alan's divorce lawyer, and he had to pay for his ex-wife's drycleaning etc....I think that this is the lawyer her ex-huband used. It's easy to throw away other people's money.....................
  24. On our cruise we had a pianist in the TSL....kind of like background elevator music. She wasn't bad, but I'd never go "just to hear her". We also had a guest entertainer. She put on a show in the theatre, and gave us a private performance (sorry, I forget her name, but her claim to fame was that she sang with Meatloaf). Now, that was a treat, not t be missed. Maybe a special YC guest performance of some sort on each cruise....
