  1. I have been following the pricing for our segment SOU-HK since we booked last October daily and sometimes even two or three times a day (a bit compulsive). Always trying to figure out "the" system. Useless probably.

In May, they reduced the deposit from 10% to 5%, added OBC and lowered the price a bit.

Then 1 Jul the OBC disappeared.

Around 1 Aug the price went down but the deposit went back up.

Currently they are advertising a Winter Sale through 30 September.

"choose from a selection of incredible offers in the Cunard Winter Sale. With savings of up to 50%# plus a complimentary upgrade within selected stateroom categories". And of course for this sale, the price actually went back up a bit to prepare for the sale I guess.

    What a rollercoaster!

Yes, we have been slowly checking off things on our list too and I love it!

  2. I did the full world cruise on QM2 in 2010 & we docked at Garden Island. We went into the city via shuttle bus, but people boarding there came to the ship by ferry/small boat.

Thank you for that information, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

  3. This is my bucket list. Who knows if it will ever be possible but one can only dream. I seem to like a lot of the Princess longer itineraries. I'm also starting to warm to the idea of not having to fly too much.

In no particular order. This is my list of cruises I hope one day to undertake. Winning lotto might help. Small problem. I never buy a ticket :D

    1. 49 day South America cruise. Princess have offered this a couple of times. The dates have never quite worked for me, or other things have gotten in the way.

    2. Cherry Blossum cruise. Been off the radar for a couple of years, but back on again in 2015. Alas, cannot go. Maybe they offer it in 2016.

    3. 35 days South Pacific cruise. Offered plenty of times in 2015 and 2016, albeit on Sea Princess :o. Not keen to go on that one while its got problems.

    4. World Cruise. LOL. Huge wanna do cruise but couple of issues here. Costs a arm and a leg, plus can't just rock up to work and say hey can I have three months off. Hmmm. Well maybe they might say yes. I think this is a few years off.

    5. 46 day Indian Ocean South Africa Odessy. I did look at this one seriously, but alas all the inside solo allocation was snapped up early and its pricey too. Who knows they might offer it again in the future.

    Hi Sarah,

I sit sometimes and wonder this very thing! Which cruise would be on my bucket list? Hmmmm....definitely in no certain order.

    1. We also like the 49 day SA cruise or even better RT FLL around SA and Antarctica. Always fully booked pretty quickly and expensive too! We can never catch this one just right.

    2. 14 day Alaska. Sounds like such a peaceful and beautiful trip.

    3. We have done one WC segment of 40 nights on QM2 and next year 74 on QE but eventually would like a full WC but as you say the lottery has to come into play there.

    4. Baltic cruise sounds so interesting!

    5. Longer Med cruise; maybe several BTB ones. Our first cruise was an 11 day Med and the second was 18 day and we just cannot imagine the shorter cruises any more.

    6. Like the sound of a 35 day South Pacific cruise that maybe starts or ends in Hawaii. Now that sounds totally relaxing and not too much stress.

    7. Some kind of cruise that includes South Africa and an overland safari option. After reading the blogs of some the Amsterdam regulars this option sounds so life changing.

Sorry I am going on and on, but this is what happens when I think of what I would like to do......thanks for opening the door!:)

  4. NYcruiser, thank you for your review. Did you like the location of your cabin? We had the corresponding one in the front 10031 last year. I liked being in that inner corridor as it seemed much quieter.

I think I read that QM2 is going for a refit next year? and the Kings Court will be revamped. I can't wait to see that because like so many have agreed, the KC is a big let down for QM2.

Sorry to hear about the service issue but that seems to be a common problem noted in reviews. We had that problem several times last year on our cruise and it left us feeling a bit put off. I hope Cunard does something with this as well....here's hoping!:o

Ricki, thank you for your additional review. That would have been so maddening to have the issue of trying to correct your card over and over again and have the attitude like you were causing the problem and creating work for them! I am sorry you had to go through that.

I think I would have been surprised to see Amish or Mennonite guests on the ship as well but I would have loved to hear about their trip experience.

We have never been on a TA yet but next year will finally get to experience one albeit on QE. As we are in Australia, it would be nice to have a (quick and easy) Transpacific equivalent to use to bypass flights.

  5. At the Sydney Port website it lists QE at White Bay for Passenger Processing so I emailed the port authority directly and asked. They told me, as I have said, White Bay is for incoming passengers and QE would be docked at Garden Island. I have emailed Cunard and hope that they will confirm one way or another and sooner rather than later.

  6. We joined QM2 at Garden Island 2010. It is a naval depot and the access was only by ferry provided by Cunard. All the checking in was done else where. Cannot remember. It has possibly changed now because of White Bay and that is not walkable to town but it was not Circular Quay. Saying all that in 2015 we are on QV docking the first day at the Overseas Terminal and going to anchorage 5.00 am the next morning for QM2 to dock. I thought QM2 was too big for the berth.

We will be on QE next year and have been told we will be docking at Garden Island but the embarking passengers will be processed at White Bay and transported over to GI afterwards. A few years ago we were in Sydney and saw QM2 docked at GI but now since we will be there I wondered how they handled getting the passengers already onboard to the city (ferry, shuttle, etc) for the 2 days we will be there. I have emailed Cunard but haven't gotten an answer yet.

  7. Our first cruise with this line.

Can any one help with these questions please.

What time are the main show,s ? What other evening entertainment is there ?

Is it possible to have use of the ships wheel chairs and are they allowed to be taken ashore ?

    Thanks for any help

Hi Brian! First I would like to invite you over to the QE Roll Call section for this cruise. We have quite a nice lot of people who are going on different segments of the QE World cruise there. My husband and I are on the Southampton to Hong Kong segment. There is a lot of information regarding our cruise there as well.

I believe the shows are at 8:30 and 10:30 each night in the Theatre. There are a variety of musical performances in various venues throughout the ship as well as well as dancing, trivia competitions, karaoke, and the casino just to name a few.

I am sorry but I don't have experience about the wheels chair though. I checked with the FAQ on the Cunard website and it says,

"We have a small number of wheelchairs that can be hired on board with a $500 deposit which will be automatically added to your on board account. This will be removed from your on board account at the end of the cruise subject to the wheelchair being returned in its original condition. Please contact the Pursers desk once on board.

The wheelchairs on board are intended for those who find the cruise a little too tiring and not as a replacement for your own mobility equipment, however, should you arrive at the terminal with a mobility scooter which has been previously undeclared, you may be offered the use of one for the duration of your cruise. Please note that alternatives to this are to board the cruise without mobility equipment or not board the ship at all which is why, should you reply on a mobility scooter, we must be informed at time of booking and the correct cabin allocated for your needs.

If you require use of a wheelchair due to a medical issue which has arisen on board, one will be supplied via the Medical Centre without charge."

  8. On the QM2 - Starting in Jan 3, 2015.

I just checked and it seems there is not a thread for the FULL world cruise. There are several threads for different segments and the closest (to the full cruise)I saw was the thread for Southampton to Dubai. It is about half way down the page once you click on QM2. I think that is a good place to start. Hope this helps.

  9. Where can I find the roll call information for this cruise. We are also crossing from and to NY for 127 days. ;)

    Hello! Welcome to Cruise Critic!

If you look under the section for roll calls and then click on Cunard Roll Calls you will find the 3 ships listed. Click on which ship and then look for the World Cruise listing. Which ship will you be on?

  10. I am looking for information from anyone that has been on QM2 when it was docked at Garden Island in Sydney. Were ferries provided to get you to Circular Quay? Were you able to walk off the ship and walk around or were there security issues? I would appreicate any info from anyone who has experienced with this.

  11. Excellent point! Where I live, my neighbors and I often arrange for someone to visit our unoccupied home every few days. (Good thing too, because once there was a gas leak in my neighbors basement after heavy rain, and the 'house watcher' called the local fire department immediately upon discovery.) I don't know if it is common practice in other areas, but we advise our local police department if we are going to be away for an extended period of time. Likewise, we advise our post office to hold our mail until our return date.

A more mundane suggestion: if you packed clothes fresh from the Dry Cleaners, take the plastic coverings, tie a knot in the bottom end, store it in the closet and use it as a laundry bag. If you don't need to have those clothes washed while on board, tie a knot in the opposite end and pack it. (It makes it easier for those officials who examine our luggage if items are contained in transparent bags rather than an opaque bags.)

We leave a photocopy of our passports and a copy of our booking information with a TRUSTED family member.

    All good information!

  12. Oh yes, most important - a Kindle!

Hi Gill! It has been awhile since I have seen you on CC. How have you been? What do you use your Kindle for on the cruise...reading? I have a Kindle but can't decide it I want to bring it or not.

  13. A fantastic response. I will be compiling a list from this posting. We update the house insurance just before we go away will probably need extra cover. Duck tape brilliant would never have thought of that one

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Hi Lady, I love lists too! Have you looked at all the lists under "Ask A Cruise Question" or "First Time Cruisers" section? So many lists and so many great ideas! I have been looking at them again for our cruise in January hoping to top up my list....lol.

  14. Thanks for your epic review Sarah! I really liked the Daily Programmes you showed as I have referred to them a couple of times now when questions arose for our cruise on QE next year.

As I have followed your travels through your pictures, I have to smile. It seems like you mom needs to have a nice hat to wear for excursions rather than the paper she always has to hold over her head to block out the sun. ;) And I can always spot your "Sis" by her favorite striped shirt.

Seriously, though loved a lot of your camera shots and angles! Although I am not a "foodie" I liked your pictures of the food when you told what the dish was and whether you/your family enjoyed it.

I will look forward to your future reviews! Thanks again.
