  1. Hello! I'm joining that last 20 days of Queen Elizabeth's World Cruise next year with family, boarding in Dubai and getting off in Southampton. Was interested (but not all that surprised) to get a note yesterday from Cunard saying that the itinerary had changed to avoid the Egyptian ports of Safaga and Sokhna and will instead be visiting Salalah in Oman and Aqaba in Jordan (for Petra).

Has anyone visited these ports? Have always wanted to visit Petra so not too disappointed - naturally safety and security are far more important than sightseeing so not too upset about Safaga and Sokhna. Also interested to know whether other cruise lines have suspended their visits to these ports or whether Cunard is just being cautious in their forward planning.

    Thanks!

Hi Kiwinick...we have been discussing that, and other issues, on our roll call thread. Why not pop over and join the roll call for this cruise, titled QE 2015 World Cruise and segments.

  2. Does anyone know what QE is doing after her 14 days cruise that ends 6 Jan 2015? The WC starts on the 10th so was wondering what she will doing in that 4 day time frame. The Cunard site did not show anything for those 4 days that I could see. Maybe preparing her for the WC?

  3. If you can log into VP then if you have a room it should be listed (not sure what it says with guarantee though). If you click on FULL ITINERARY VIEW it should show there. Alternatively, if you click on the heading at the very top that says Life On Board, a drop down menu comes up and you click on Accommodation you should also see it to the right of that page.

  4. alibabacruisers,

The first HAL ship listed on the Port Everglades website "Cruise Calendar", is the Zuiderdam in port on Friday 17th October.

Thanks for that Erewhon! How are you...haven't seen you in awhile? How are things in NZ? For our cruise next year we have had a lot of NZers sign up in the last month for the roll call. Are you going on a cruise anytime soon?

  5. Thank you Blue for the video of QM2 sailing so elegantly into NYC.

Thank you Kathi for the reminder about the NYC webcam and the wonderful site of QM2 at the Manhattan Pier. That is where we, the QE, will be docking next year so I was glad to see that!

  6. Thanks again for your replies. I figured that the safe would be too small for our laptop. I have read others comments before that they have left theirs out and had no problems, but thought I would check just in case.

  7. I am booked on a January cruise on QE and the spa bookings was not highlighted until two weeks ago but now it highlighted (green) and bookings, it says, can be made, although, I have not tried to go thru the process to see if that is true. Our voyage is 3 and half months away.

I just went over and logged into the VP to see if I could book. I could not actually book spa treatments and such ...I tried varying dates and treatments and it always came back saying "no treatments on that date available, try a different selection".

However, I tried to book the specialty restaurant (Veranda in my case) and it allowed me to book, if I wished to.

Strange that it would let me book the restaurant, but not the spa. It must be because the spa is run by someone other than Cunard maybe. Plus it is interesting that they would "let" you book anything prior to final payment.

  8. If you go to the Carnival Section and under the search function type in 6286...quite a few threads/posts will come up. Under the search after you type in 6286, if you click posts you will get the actual posts rather than trying to go thru the threads.

  9. I checked pricing of shipping one bag back to U.S. from Southampton, and was given a range of prices since it is based on weight. The person I spoke with on the phone said it could easily be handled once we were onboard, no need to reserve ahead of time, and indeed it was. Interestingly, they had no scale and just took our word for the weight when we filled out the paperwork and paid. We did ask our steward beforehand if she could find us one of those portable luggage scales, just so we could make sure we weren't overweight. When we disembarked, there was just a cart to drop the luggage to be shipped, no representative from the shipping company (DHL at the time) or from Cunard, and no scale. I was a little leery about just leaving the bag there, but it arrived safe and sound. (We did eastbound transatlantic and were traveling for several weeks in England and Europe, so didn't want to haul around the bag with the dressy clothing we didn't need; had the bag shipped to our daughter's.)

Was the price you checked initially the same as the price on the ship?

  10. Does anyone have experience with White Star in the following situation?

You get a quote (prior to the cruise) for shipping a bag home after the cruise and you choose not to book it. BUT then on board you see that they are offering White Star to ship your bag and decide to get a quote there.

My question is, if you did this, are the two quotes the same or is it more or less expensive?

I am trying to weigh up my options. I have got a quote for shipping a bag home after the cruise but decided adding the extra baggage for our flight was a better way to go. But if I somehow have more shopping than I anticipate:eek:, would the option of booking it on board be beneficial?

Hoping someone has some experience of this.:o
