So, whomever owns the machines and runs the casino is unable to alter the machines once they are in service?

They can change them by changing the RNG which is the very expensive guts of the machine so no, usually only done if there is a breakdown. To explain the difficulty, in Vegas or AC it is illegal to change the RNG unless notifying the controlling agency.

There are changes coming with new technology but in the past changing the win percentage was not true.   Your earlier comment is one of many,  I have seen people say you win on sea days, before dinner, after dinner and even last day.

What are you referring to by "they always win"?

The machines are set at the factory with a percentage of win which is always under 100%, mostly in the 70s or 80s. Over a period of time the machine will pay out what that percentage on the machine is.

The time to play the slots is on the first night at sea at machines closest to the casino's entrance.  No guarantee even then, but, I think the odds of winning are the greatest at that time.

    # 1 Myth of slot machines according to Simply Slots magazine. The machines operate on the random number generator RNG and are not changed during cruise. Look it up on internet. Bottom line they don’t have to change the RNG, they always win. I have seen loads of theories with locations to win and times, they are all bogus.

I am the OP. Just as I suspected, when I called again today, I was NOT told they don't mail tags anymore. But, since my docs are not available to print, I was told X doesn't have access to them either. So can't mail until they are available to print. Since we are 17 days from boarding. I doubt there will be time to mail tags by the time they are available. No big deal as I know I can either print (if this option ever shows up) or get at the pier.

Always take Celebrity phone customer service with a grain of salt. They have very often been contradictory and wrong. Most of the regulars on here know that.

  5. I seem to remember that there is access to the Persian gardens with an appointment but not absolutely sure.   When you arrive on the ship go to the spa, they are there and and will help out.

I always check the Weather Channel website before our cruise. I put in all our stops, and can get a general idea what the weather will be like. Haven't gone wrong yet.

Alaska is a little different because of the changes in weather which can be quite sudden.   We went on a great excursion in the fjord off the ship onto a Catamaran.   It was raining and temps were in the high 30s. The ship brought us back to the city where we were in shorts weather.    My biggest concern was not bringing clothing to dress up for dinner but in bringing layered clothes for excursions.

I don't remember which city it was in but wife and I took an excursion into a state park where they had a Zip line course set up in the forest.   It had I believe 10 zip lines on the course, the longest being around 1000 feet, don't know the age of your kids but they would probably enjoy.  Its pretty cool being on a zip line up pretty high and you look down and see a mama bear with her babies.

The aforementioned excursion on the Catmaran was great as we went to places the cruise ship could not.  I believe there is a recent thread on this excursion.

Are you sure that was a slot pull? Usually a slot pull is with one machine and as a PP said, everyone pools their money and they take turns on that one machine and then spit any winnings at the end. Maybe what you did was just a different kind of slot pull...??

The description she gave was a slot tournament not a slot pill, both can be fun.

If you enjoy playing dress up, then by all means wear your "sparkles" every night. However, it is possible to be well dressed, even elegantly dressed,  without resorting to "bling" ( which can be just as inapprooriate as shorts and a ratty t shirt in the wrong setting).

Even after retirement we need formal wear for quite a few social engagements at home. So this is not fun (for us). It is simply one type of dress. When there are other acceptable options - which there are on Celebrity- we will opt for something less formal. But still fitting into the "elegant chic" ethos. And even less formal, but still well dressed (I hope) on regular casual nights. Sorry if I'm spoiling your fun; but I don't cruise for anyone else's amusement.

We are similiar but different as we have been sailing with Celebrity for close to 30 years. We did the whole formal thing for many, many years, often with our kids.  We got great pictures as back then you had to dress formal including the children. We are retired now and just want to relax and enjoy ourselves. I am glad Celebrity gives us that chance with such an accommodating dress code.

I sense some bargaining in my future.

There may be a paper offer in an envelope like Orator said. My experience was that the slip of paper was very small so check the envelope carefully. The percentage may change from cruise to cruise.

Is it ok to bring candles and an iron on board?  And what about breastfeeding in the MDR?

Candles, irons and steamers are absolutely forbidden, if seen they WILL be confiscated. No problem with breastfeeding.

Absolutely not Celebrity, reports back from cruisers say people being turned away for shorts except first and last nigh

    Not quite.
There are etiquette guidelines regarding eating bacon:

“Since crispy bacon can break if you cut it with a knife, it's perfectly acceptable to eat it with your hands. Soft bacon is usually greasy so if you don't want to get your fingers dirty, you can use a fork and a knife.”

    Sorry, I’m from New Jersey

That wasn't quite a literal statement.  More of a reflection on the overall menu style.  Starters, salads, soups, sides all tend towards whatever "spa-inspired" means.  Not suggesting it's bad, just not our preference.

Yes, lots of people don’t like Blu and that of course is their choice. I’ve never bought the description you cited from Celebrity. I have found lots of options and am very proactive for upgrades. I once got a an upgrade from an inside to Aqua for 100 per person.

    Tough call.

Our favorite location on any X ship are the deck 11 AQ rooms on Aqua, but $450 is no small chunk of change to upgrade.

With Aqua, as others have said, you eat in Blu, and have access to the Persian Garden (spa stuff like saunas but no spa services).   While a lot of people enjoy Blu, we don't care for what X calls, "a spa-inspired menu that emphasizes a holistic health experience".  I'll stick with the steak, potatoes, and things that involve butter. 🙂  But, you can order off the main dining room menu as well if you wish.

They have steak potatoes and things with butter every night.
