  1. Thanks for your comments. Maybe when your husband develops his plate shield, I can work with him on the patents & Licensing! 🙂 THis is not our 1st post-Covid cruise. It's our 4th - 2 Crystal and 1 Seabourn. Based on the people involved in the "new" Crystal I am expecting good things from it. But we shall see.
  2. Review posted. It's long. Bottom line: Had a good time because of the people we met & sailed with. Would we sail Whisper again? No. Would be sail Silversea again? Possible, but unlikely, on one of the newer ships. https://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=691608&et_cid=3500453&et_rid=85286512&et_referrer=Boards_Million_Member_Newsub
  3. THAT'S my kind of lunch! OR dinner.
  4. Frequent Crystal cruiser looking at a cruise for this Jan/Feb, and I came across this thread about Viking. Enjoyed your post about Portsmouth & the Mary Rose museum. My boss was Knighted for his work on raising the MAry ROse & supporting the museum. Our World HQ was in Portsmouth, so a visit there was a "requirement" when visiting the Portsmouth HQ. Definitely worth a visit. And if you like this museum, then the Vasa Museum will be a must when in Stockholm.
  5. I did better using the Hotspot on my phone.
  6. Seems as though the east coast is getting hit too. I saw on TV that Broward County has no power due to a tornado. And heard from someone in Davie that they have 4 ft of water already in their street. I am watching my house in Sarasota on our cameras, and we have a little lake in our backyard that's not supposed to be there! Already.
  7. YES - we do hope to make up some of the stops we missed, but very disappointed to miss more time in Quebec. We have the added issue that we have to change cabins for the 2nd segment, which will require our attention on the turnaround day. We're not focusing much on that for the next 2 days as our home is right in the path of Hurricane Ian. But better to be here than at home, where they are expecting 150 mph gusts & 8-12 ft storm surge. Our house is 11 ft elevation.
  8. Did you get any explanation why the late arrival in Quebec? We have a 9 AM tour - guess that's not happening.
  9. Here's the path we've taken since last night, when we went back to Cape Cod. As of a few minutes ago, we are scheduled to go to Halifax, but that is still up in the air. At least 3 stops missed, who knows haw many more. All are safe, seas a little rough, but we've experienced much worse.
  10. Latest tracking has it a little east, so Halifax may be spared the brunt. But Sydney will get it. I tried to tell the Captain two days ago to go to Saint John & shelter in the Bay of Fundy. I guess he finally is listening to me! 😄 I have another storm ready to hit my home in SW FL next week! Newest models moving it closer to me. I think maybe I should hibernate until winter.
  11. We got turned around - saw you coming in, not going out. We're leaving at 1 PM, heading to St. John
  12. We are on the Silversea WHisper, and just saw the Caribbean Princess leaving Boston Harbor. Was wondering where it was headed, so came here. We are staying in Boston until 4 PM Friday, as of now. They haven't told us where we are going yet. THe cruise is supposed to end in Quebec on the 30th - not clear what's going to happen. I can't imagine we'll be able to dock in Halifax or Sydney as planned if Fiona is as strong as predicted.
  13. On a prior cruise on another line, at boarding we met a woman who wanted to change cabins, and we were interested in the class of cabin she had. It took the front desk just a few clicks on the computer & the switch was a done deal. And it was a Christmas cruise, so the ship was quite full.
  14. It's less than 2 weeks to our cruise, and our TA checked just a few days ago. What I am hoping is that the people in the suite we have to move to wouldn't mind swapping - they're just across the hall from each other. Who knows - can't hurt to ask!
  15. I assume there are a lot of In Transit guests as they are doing some tours that day. We have one booked from 9 - 12. That makes it unlikely that we will be present when they move our stuff. I hope we can access the old cabin after the move to at least make sure everything was transferred.
  16. If we get off the ship, can we return before the new guests embark? What about access to our New cabin? Will all our stuff be moved there before or after it is cleaned, and will we have access to our "stuff" at least?
  17. We're in the same situation on the Whisper. It looks like the suite we are moving to is not vacant. We have a tour booked on turnaround day that leaves at 9 AM. We have lots of stuff hanging. Additionally, we'll have computer, iPads, chargers - stuff like that. THey just go in a drawer? How's that going to work?
  18. This is good to know. On a FB post, it was mentioned that there is no place to get an early morning coffee other than asking your butler. I want to get my coffee to-go while heading to the track for a stroll. Do they have any pastries there as well? Another item - do they have No Sugar Added Apple Juice onboard? Is that something we can have to keep in our cabin fridge?
  19. I'm a few weeks from sailing, and on my Activities tab it shows both pre & post cruise hotels. But I don't need hotels. Do they put this on anyway, or do I need to contact SS & get a credit? I got a small credit for doing my own transport (not a lot of flights from Long Island to Manhattan 😄 ).
  20. Found an interesting looking hotel on the Upper West Side, only opened this past October. A block from where I used to live. The Wallace hotel - all 5 star ratings. Last year we cruised at same time & drove in from Long Island - we had to drive thru the closings. Fortunately, our driver knew to head north & then come down west side highway. People who are on this cruise do need to be cognizant of the UN session.
  21. We're boarding the Whisper on Sept 19, and plan to spend the evening prior at a hotel in NYC. We have our "Go To" hotel, BUT it is a few blocks from the UN, and that date is during the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly. Not only are rooms on the East Side hard to find, but the prices are 3 -5X what they normally are. And everything is overcrowded, streets closed off, etc. It's a real mess on the East Side. SO - we have to find a different hotel. Been reading review after review, and there are so many bad reviews of hotels in NYC. Many many "In need of maintenance" and "A/C not working." And most 5 star reviews are about location. Looking for recommendations either on the West Side, or downtown or Union Square area. NOT Times Square. We don't plan on Sightseeing in NYC - long time NYers. We can Uber to the ship, so we definitely do not need to be very close to the Pier. Thanks

  23. I've had a Pacemaker for almost 30 years (on my 3rd one as of 1 1/2 years ago), and have been on many flights, many cruises, and never had an issue. (I've actually used it to get around long lines a few times) The current pacemakers can go through security with no problem. IF they are wanding somewhere, just say you have a pacer & put your hand over it. If you need any encouragement from someone with lots of experience, feel free to PM me.
  24. Disembarking on a Tuesday - Cruisemapper shows we are the only ship in Port, and it is a small ship with only a few hundred passengers. Scheduled into NY at 8 AM. It's been a while since I traveled thru Manhattan, so wondering how likely or unlikely to make an 1145 AM flight out of LGA in mid-September using a car service? Next flight is the next day. Editing to add it is Delta Domestic
  25. We came in via car service from Suffolk the day the UN opened. Our froends also came from Suffolk. We left same time - we were there an hour before them. Our driver knew the best way (what you described), their driver took midtown tunnel! During the marathon, I'd suggest coming in from NJ - if have to fly on ady of cruise (not a good idea) best bet to fly to Newark.
