  1. 45 minutes to the airport, 10-15 minutes in the bus holding line (if you take the Viking bus). The rest is a crap shoot - we got through quickly.
  2. I guess it depends on whether you want acceptable or interesting wines at dinner. Having a choice is almost always a better option.
  3. Earlier this month on Orion, Explorer’s Lounge had both Buffalo Trace and Bulleit, so someone realized how pitiful the listed bourbons were. 👍🥃
  4. You mean the “let’s all pretend we’re having a good time” song?? 😎
  5. Guess I haven’t been able to stay up long enough to enjoy in the past!! Thanks for the clarification. Pea soup at 10PM??? 😖
  6. 10PM to midnight on our recent cruise. It didn’t get much play and it didn’t look very appetizing. Should be a short experiment.
  7. Same experience on the Orion. in the past, they would just lift up my wife and pass her to the tender crew!
  8. This seems to be a classic situation to bring up the What Viking Is Not list. https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/why-viking/viking-difference/viking-difference-wvin.html These have sold us on Viking.
  9. Or perhaps a blue-haired spa-row. 🐦
  10. I stand corrected. Thought today was Wednesday - been cruising too long!!
  11. CD on Orion just announced that the Vancouver longshoremen have voted to strike and will not be handling luggage tomorrow morning as a result. Folks with early departures will have to schlep their bags off the ship. Viking crew cannot help per local regs. Not sure why they only announced only early departures have to offload their own bags, as this is a strike, not a temporary work stoppage. As an aside, they voted yesterday, so the Viking statement that “ we just learned of the strike” is either not accurate or poor monitoring of the situation by Viking. Never a dull moment. 🙄

  13. Good idea! While linen looks great, it’s the most high-maintenance fabric known to personkind.
  14. Saying TA is paid by you may be confusing. TA is paid by the cruise line at no extra cost to you.
  15. There was a shuttle from the gangway. It may have been a couple bucks. There is also a free gondola to the shops and native dance show. I believe there were shuttles on that side also. Gondola to top has a charge, but with free Viking excursion we just got wristbands for unlimited rides.
  16. On what night are they serving jeans in the dining room for dinner?? They’re delicious with a bit of bearnaise sauce !!! 😋😎
  17. Hey, I paid a lot of money for this cruise. I’ll wear what I bloody well please!! 😉😎
  18. 1. A travel agent works for you. The cruise line agent works for them. 2. A good travel agent has connections with the cruise line and will work to get concessions/special handling. The cruise line agent generally has to play by the book. 3. A travel agent earns their commission when things start to go wrong and they fix it. (I.e. COVID rebookings) A cruise line agent is primarily there to take new bookings, not hold your hand.
  19. Also, the major glaciers are deep within fjords, not along the coast. You’ll likely have a glacier viewing day, and the captain does a 180 degree pivot to be sure all get a good photo op.
  20. Sit “on” or”at” the piano??? On would be quite the sight!
  21. Enjoy your specialty cruise… 😉😎 Love ya!!
  22. It would be tough to imagine something without first experiencing it. Under 50-60 is better, but still very much a minority. Many are family members. Few are young couples.
  23. Yes, but you first must take the free shuttle from the ship to the shore. They’re still working on the rock slide damage and it is unsafe to walk the pier with the walkway lane closed. Once you get on shore, it’s a flat 5-10 minute walk to town, or you can take the local SMART shuttle for $3 each way. By the time we returned to town from our excursion around 1PM, the crowds had thinned as most returned to their ship for a “free” lunch. We had a great lunch and excellent beer at Skagway Brewing Company on 4th. Also got a funky t-shirt there, instead of the ones that scream ALASKA on the front and have a bear or moose.
  24. Today we are in Skagway, a community of 400. There will be 9,000 cruise ship passengers joining us. And the locals are providing a shuttle bus to town for $5 round trip. This may not be our best day of cruising on this trip…
