  1. And I've often thought about that ship and been very thankful that almost all modern ships have covered lifeboats. I know I've read "Burning Cold" but can;t remember if the lifeboats were used and for how long. Roy
  2. I'm pretty sure it does come down to the ship. For at least most of the Alaska season these 2 ships do the same itinerary on alternate weeks. Noordam sails from Whittier to Vancouver on a Sunday while Nieuw Amsterdam sails Vancouver to Whittier, and the following Sunday Noordam sails from Vancouver while Nieuw Amsterdam sails from Whittier. Roy
  3. I just watched her leaving New York. I was amazed at how much clearance she had going under the Verrazzano Bridgge. No wonder she could go through the Kiel Canal while most ships cannot. Roy
  4. Only 2? Thanks Leanne, Lou & Dave, and fellow addicts. Dinner beckons. Roy
  5. I did check Pier 66 hotel and they claim to be reopening in Fall 2024. A long time to go with just 1 camera. Roy
  6. I have another sunset today, this time from the 2018 Crystal World Cruise, On April 9 Crystal Symphony visited Iquique, Chile. Roy
  7. Happy Easter to those who celebrate it and continuing good wishes for Passover, I have another sunset today, this time from the 2018 Crystal World Cruise, On April 9 Crystal Symphony visited Iquique, Chile. Roy
  8. We've had 2 successive ports of the day. Yesterday was Puerto Plata/Amber Cove and today Grandeur of the Seas is there and you can see how they are related on cruisemapper. The port pin is actually at Amber Cove while the Grandeur is in Puerto Plata,=: In 2017 I visited Puerto Caldera on the Zaandam while the Eurodam was in Puntarenas and I could see the Eurodam from the Zaandam. Again, 2 fairly distant but close ports: Roy
  9. Happy Easter to those who celebrate it. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Ann, Debbie, Dixie, and Graham. I'll salute all of today's days and so true on the Williams quote. I've been to Puerto Caldera but not to Puntarenas. I'll definitely pass on the shrimp. My alternative is Melange of Tropical Fruit, Chilled Sour Cherry Soup, Spaghetti Amartriciana, and Almond Fruit Cake as served on MS Zaandam April 9, 2017: Roy
  10. Great toots for her final North American departure of the season. I think she outdid Caribbean. 2 BHB on Easter. Thanks Leanne, Lou & Dave and fellow addicts. WOW! Still going strong. Roy
  11. Heading to Europe 13 days earlier than in 2019. Roy
  12. Not a good sign that the webcam is looking to sea. .. But miracles happen. Roy
  13. I have a sunset today rather than a sunrise. It's from my 2017 Zaandam cruise from Buenos Aires to San Diego. On April 8 we visited Pisco. Roy

  15. That's an excellent choice. The one weakness is there is no glacier viewing by ship so I strongly encourage taking the Tracy Arm tour if it is available. You rendezview with a small boat at the entry to Tracy Arm late morning and go deep into the fjords and get a very up close and personal look at the glaciers while enjoying snacks and lunch. The rendezview with the boat is late morning and then the boat returns you to the ship in time for dinner. You do not get a lot of time in Juneau but the ship does not leave until late evening so you can see a little bit of the capitol before you leave. It isn't a cheap tour but I think WELL worth it. Roy
  16. Another note on Amber Cove after reviewing my Koningsdam blog. While Puerto Plata is a regular and active cruise port (and just 5 miles away) I think one of the incentives for Carnival setting up Amber Cove is as a base for the short lived Fathom division designed for cruises to Cuba. Roy
  17. Thank you Rich, Sandi (and Happy Birthday), Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. Having seen the explanation of All is Ours Day I like it but am concerned that we need to do a better job of taking care of it. I'll pass on drawing pictures and enjoy zoos but the closest thing I've been to in years is the aviary at Cartagena. We do not really do anything todat, and the service @Lady Hudson was very similar to the service I attended for Maundy Thursday. I love the Lincoln quote. . Lots of distractions, Nieuw Statendam arriving in Port Everglades and then Amera arriving in New York. I didn't catch Amera actually going under the bridge but was stunned at how much clearance there was. Kind of fits in with how she is one of the few cruise ships going through the Kiel Canal. And later arriving at the terminal without fanfare: The meal looks interesting. My alternative is Caramelized Orange and Grapefruit Cocktail, Chilled Strawberry Bisque and Chicken Breast with Israeli Couscous as served on MS Zaandam April 8, 2017. Roy
