  1. Thank you for the TGIF report, Rich. An interesting collection of days, with a special shoutout to step families and a salute to our veterans. I've crossed the Drake Passage several times; it's always an interesting experience. Since I don't eat seafood I'll pass on the meal. The quote is quite fascinating. Will be off to Wegmans and Panera early today. Today’s care list: Rest in Peace Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth 9\8/22 Western wildfires Strength and healing for smitty34877 and family Marshhawk’s friend Jesse with throat cancer and in denial Seriousness of Cruzin Terri’s leak damage and insurance issues HAL Sailer Sister in law feeling too week to meet her brother From the rotation: Strength for luvteaching’s friend Karen after Wayne’s 9/3 death Sandi’s neighbor Linda Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney Status of St. Louis Sal (7/1), msmayor (5/20) and JAM37 (7/7) Celebrations and Shoutouts: Dfish home under contract Volendam at sea Rowsby in Hawaii until 9/28 ger_77 with grandkids 1 day for norseh20 (Regata 9/17 to 9/25) Bon Voyage sailingdutchy (Oosterdam to 10/10) lindaler (Westerdam to 9/18), Marshhawk (Ecstasy to 9/22), Oceansaway17 (Adventure OTS to 9/25), Vict0riann (Nieuw Amsterdam to 9/25), and Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  2. That was a tough fall for the Symphony. After the TA she did several New England and Canada trips and at one time broke down in Montreal with about a 2-day delay leaving and the final blow was Superstorm Sandy and missing the turnaround port of New York. Just glad I had a very resourceful TA. Roy
  3. Not quite sure what you're suggesting but I have my doubts. If the idea is to take Amera to Fort Lauderdale, I expect Amera's Captain might object, and I don't think you would want to sail to Bremerhaven and miss the World Cruise. If you get a chance to look down from Zaandam's top deck, do check out the new Beer Garden where the Lido Pool used to be. Roy
  4. @Horizon chaser 1957 I believe you are boarding Zaandam in Montreal soon. Just a quick heads up, you will be joined in Montreal by MS Amera, most recently MS Prinsendam. Roy
  5. You and @nancygp are both correct. I think I also remember that was the cruise where @Out2See was onboard as a lecturer but due to the extra sea day we got treated to the world premiere of "Character Man". @TRIPACIAN you are correct also. There were 3 ships in Grand Turk that day with dock space for 2. Nieuw Amsterdam had the first priority because their parent owns the port, and we got the second dock space probably because Serenity had azipods and Dynamic positioning while we didn't, so Serenity had to tender. I got this view of the 2 ships with Serenity nestled under our bow: My last view of Serenity from that ship just after the peak of sunset: Roy
  6. Awesome! Now you just need to get a deal on the house in Midland. Roy
  7. Looks like the port lights are primed to come on promptly at 05:30. Roy
  8. @Cruzin Terri I hope you remembered your IPAD when you visited your house. Today's sunrise is from a very stormy morning September 15, 2012 on the Crystal Symphony sailing from Reykjavik to New York (we were supposed to have a stop in Halifax but missed it due to the weather): Roy

  10. Thank you for the not-quite-Friday, Rich. I'll pass on making hats but salute Greenpeace and caregivers, especially @smitty34877. I visited Belize City once on the Crystal Symphony. Not sure what the meal is. Pleased to hear of a likely settlement of the railroad strike as I will be using the Auto Train to get to the Eurodam for November 9. 11. I think the same issue was discussed in another thread and it sounds like there may be something missing in the online checkin: I'll suggest going back to your online checking and see if something is missing. It sounds like it could be something as simple as an emergency contact. Roy
  12. Oh no on the fall. Definitely NOT what you need. And forgetting your IPAD. I am though, happy that you are happy with the contractor. I hope they perform as promised. Roy
  13. I visited Sihanoukville on the Zaandam February 10, 2012. I'll start with a photo of the port itself which we shared with the much smaller Seabourn Pride: I had a ship's tour with several stops. The first was the Buddhist Intra Ngean Pagoda We then stopped at Ochheuteal, a beautiful but very crowded beach. My notes indicated it was very commercialized. I found the smell in the market overwhelming and when we got to free time walked around downtown a bit, passing a primary school at dismissal time: Our final stop was a fishing base where we walked among the boats, which do their actual fishing overnight. Finally, a message from the monks at Intra Ngean Pagoda; Roy
  14. Today's sunrise is the last from my 2010 Alaska trip that featured one of Cruise West's last completed voyages. On September 14 I was on Amtrak's Empire Builder and the sun rose at a service stop in Whitefish Montana: Roy

  16. Thank you for the Hump Day report, Rich. I like Cream Filled donuts but should not eat them. Quiet Day sounds like a great idea. While Crab Feasts are very popular here I'll pass as well as on the Shrimp and Tomato Migas. I love the Rowling quote. Been to Sihnoukville just once, Zaandam in 2012. Today’s care list: Rest in Peace Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth 9\8/22 Western wildfires Marshhawk’s friend Jesse with throat cancer and in denial Seriousness of Cruzin Terri’s leak damage and long term repairs The locks at Ijmuiden(Rotterdam diverted to at least 9/18) From the rotation: strength for luvteaching’s friend Karen Sandi’s neighbor Linda Tana with persistent problems although somewhat better Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney Celebrations and Shoutouts: Volendam at sea New Camila photo Rowsby in Hawaii until 9/28 Great progress on dfish move 3 days for norseh20 (Regata 9/17 to 9/25) 2 days for sailingdutchy (Oosterdam 9/16 to 10/10) Ichiban Nekko forever home nearing completion lindaler (Westerdam to 9/18), Marshhawk (Ecstasy to 9/22), Vict0riann (Nieuw Amsterdam to 9/25), and Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  17. Volendam is leaving Rotterdam as I type. Roy
  18. I just looked on Marine Traffic. Volendam is starting her journey towards regular passengers. Roy
  19. I know they're on the not permitted list. That generally does not mean that you will not be able to board but they will confiscate the banned item at the gangway and return it at disembarkation. Not sure how you get a definite answer but I wonder if they would allow you to reclaim it temporarily on a port call. Roy
  20. Not really that bad a day but between the Radiance and the panning not a great view either. Roy
