  1. I know a lot of people think it's great but I do wonder how it will affect a real emergency. Not because of the passengers but because the crew isn't receiving the same level of training that they used to receive.
  2. The people who clean the common areas, move the luggage at embarkation/ debarkation, etc. OP the info has always been available on the app AFAIK.
  3. This. Plus, you will be limited in getting drinks until you've completed the muster.
  4. You still might find yourself in need of medical evacuation, which could include a transfer between hospitals.
  5. A lot of people do this- they read until they think they have the answer they are looking for and then they stop, not realizing that what they are really looking for is really further down the page. Sometimes they will ask on here to verify, sometimes they'll just head to the port. (When we first cruised I was guilty of not reading far enough- I read the NCL FAQ about tipping and as soon as I read "tipping is not required" I stopped reading. Not too much further on they discussed the daily service charges that would be applied. I was lucky, it was a two nighter and it was just DW and myself, so having those charges appear on my invoice were a surprise, but not a game changer even though not budgeted for. Had we been on a 4 day cruise with all of the boys it would have been a different story.)
  6. And everyone's reading comprehension isn't equal, so having a forum where one can verify what one things one read is a good thing. If you don't want to participate you certainly don't have to. At the end of the day it is still the traveler's responsibility no matter what they read or what anyone else says and if they get it wrong it is on them.
  7. But the website has gaps that can be filled in and clarified. The discussion about REAL ID licenses and EDLs is a case in point. People who rely just on the website can and do think they have an EDL when all they have is a REAL ID compliant document. Verifying something like this on multiple sites can be helpful.
  8. And that extra paperwork leads people to believe that they have an EDL. Many folks miss their cruise because of it, so we try to keep the record straight. (And knowing what works in addition to a passport can be helpful. I've read of a few cruisers whose passport went missing, sometimes even en route to the port.)
  9. Think you missed a "not", as in "would not allow".
  10. "The way they treated me was like a criminal". Well, of course.
  11. Ohio doesn't issue Enhanced Drivers Licenses. What you have is a REAL ID compliant license. The difference is an EDL proves ID and citizenship in one document and may be used at land border crossings and sea ports of entry. A REAL ID won't do that.
  12. That's what we do- look at the total, with the understanding that one has to look at what is included with one line that one has to pay for on another. To make a fair assessment in that situation one needs to add those things that one needs to pay for with the one line that the other line includes. (Case in point- we were looking at a southern Caribbean itinerary and were comparing Celebrity and Carnival. Going just by the overall price, Carnival was less. But Celebrity included drink package, wifi and gratuities in their fare and when we added those items into Carnival's fare, Celebrity came out less.)
  13. Taxes and fees would be refunded to the card used for the booking. As for the OP's question I would suppose that every line will likely handle it differently. I would suggest asking on the forum for the line in question.
  14. If you've made a reservation for 7 that's what they'll be expecting I would think. You can always call the restaurant manager before hand to make sure.
  15. Totally get that but others should know that it's not just a Carnival thing, keeps them from thinking they can book a different line and get a completely different result.
  16. None of the mainstream lines have a dress code any longer. They all have suggestions for wear with a list of unacceptable clothing in the MDR at dinner. Enforcement of that is spotty on all lines.
  17. I forgot my Kindle on our Royal cruise and was able to snag a book at the library to make it by. I like it when the library and game room are combined, better use of space, but I guess game rooms are going the way of the dodo as well (as are chapels).
  18. I have also seen plenty of PJs in the buffet. This isn't something that I would necessarily do (especially since I don't wear PJs and no one wants to see that) but I don't care if others do.
  19. Some of the lines are certainly facing saturation at the top and providing the perks for those tiers can be a challenge, but that comes from the folks in those tiers actually sailing. Removing people for not booking a cruise won't cure the problem.
  20. If she's a US citizen she can use a birth certificate and government issued photo ID.
  21. Thanks for confirming! I went to the Carnival website and it says that the online check in info should be provided by midnight the night before sailing, which leads me to conclude that you can change the previously provided info.
  22. I would try to make the edits but they can also make the changes at check in.
  23. As long as those documents are acceptable they probably just make the change, but I think the passenger can make the change before showing up.
