  1. This was us, once. The excursion we were on was running late in returning to the ship and as we were on the way back I could hear the ship calling the bus driver on the radio. When we pulled up they wanted us to run to get on the ship, but I'm in no shape to do that so I didn't. They pulled the gangway up after we all boarded.
  2. Go up to Pig and Anchor/Parched Pig and get an Old Fashioned made with Blanton's. I'm not a big whiskey drinker but I really enjoyed it. (It's $18 if you don't have Cheers.) I also got some Hennessy/Hennessy Pure White on the rocks to sip during shows that was pretty good.
  3. Not sure who the "they" is, but we've never had an issue with our neighbors coming over for a short break, it's an oral declaration made at the border is not a secure way of running things so now folks need to present a secure form of documentation proving their citizenship (usually passport, but other forms exist). The fact remains that there are no provisions in US law to deny entry to a US citizen, whether they have documentation or not. Many US citizens are in a good number of databases and it is fairly easy for this to be confirmed in secondary inspection.
  4. There are ways but at the end of the day if they are going to deny entry the burden of proof is on them to prove the person in front of them is not a US citizen if that is what they are claiming. We live 8 miles from the Canadian border and it happens a few times a year where someone goes up to Canada and loses their documentation (theft or carelessness). They spend some time in secondary inspection but always make it home.
  5. Who says passengers are getting sick of this? If that is so why do the cruise lines have no problem selling their cruises? I prefer the low advertised price and then I get to choose what add ons, if any, that I want to pay for. Of course one can total up all of the extras, add that to the cruise fare and then compare that price with a cruise line that includes those items in the fare.
  6. We were on deck 10 (10436 I think) and it was a nice area to be in.
  7. Yes, one bottle per adult in the cabin. Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception - at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage.*
  8. In that context it does make sense, thank you.
  9. While I can understand that a new manifest would be needed (and as I understand it CBP charges for processing the manifests, so that expense would absolutely be passed on to the passenger involved) I don't believe that it changes the closed loop nature of the cruise for the remainder of the passengers. There are undoubtedly some passengers onboard traveling with government issued ID and birth certificate and if the cruise was actually deemed to be non-closed loop then they would need to be disembarked at the next port, since every passenger needs to maintain the required travel documentation throughout the cruise and it is illegal for the cruise line to transport them without it. They also wouldn't have the required documents for any downstream port visits. In any event, even if the authorities did somehow view the cruise as non-closed loop from that point on since those with birth cert/ID are not disembarked then some exception needs to be made to allow them to remain so from a practical viewpoint it would hardly matter how anyone views the cruise. (The same scenario would arise if someone missed the ship or left the ship due to emergency, so this isn't something that only happens when a passenger decides to leave the ship at a port as suggested by the OP.)
  10. If you have any others fire away, I might be able to answer them from my faulty memory.🤪
  11. Yes, there are restrooms accessible from the parking area in Port Canaveral.
  12. OP you will have to report your results so if someone else has the same question it can be answered.
  13. The water from the dispensers on lido is cleaner than what is in the bathroom cabin.
  14. Learned something new today. I don't like ginger beer so never looked too closely at it and didn't realize it's like root beer in that it doesn't have alcohol.
  15. I suspect that it will all come down to the knowledge of the security person screening it. If they recognize that the ginger beer you have is non-alcoholic they'll let it go. If they don't recognize it they will confiscate it. You might be able to point out that it doesn't contain alcohol but they aren't going to spend a lot of time on the issue- they have thousands of people to screen.
  16. While you might get a better response on the Carnival forum I believe promo codes for this are limited to targeted cruisers. I did not get one for our last sailing, but our son did.
  17. Just got back from Mardi Gras and while we haven't sailed Oasis we have sailed Anthem of the Seas and I thought that Mardi Gras was good competition for Anthem. Anthem had the bumper cars/roller skating, Mardi Gras Bolt and the ropes course. Anthem the Solarium, Mardi Gras Serenity (with a salad bar instead of a bistro). Anthem the Dog House, Mardi Gras Big Chicken and Street Eats and Guys and Blue Iguana. Anthem 270, Mardi Gras Center Stage. The only tip is go with the flow and have a great time- Carnival and Royal aren't as far apart in the product they offer as many think. Here's a link to my review. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/3005559-mardi-gras-420-to-427/#comment-67313447
  18. They had digital options on Mardi Gras but it costs the same as a print. I would second doing different poses for the regular photographers. If you got the digital only one person would have to buy them, then have them printed when you got home (just make sure you get a release to do that).
  19. Possibly but you didn't allude to that in your post but I can now see where you're coming from.
  20. So, not a myth but poorly understood and executed.
  21. Actually he was investigated for his actions because every pilot is investigated for their actions when something goes wrong. And the computer models (and simulations) were correct- an immediate turn back toward the airport would have resulted in a landing on the ground (and even still the pilots in the simulators needed to practice the maneuver before they were successful). But as was pointed out (by Sully and others) no one had ever trained for dual engine loss at such a low altitude. I would think that since that fateful day this scenario is carried out in simulators regularly so pilots can be trained in this unlikely occurrence.
  22. I would call it more of a mindset than a myth. Certainly not a mindset shared by all back in the day, but it was a prevailing one whenever disaster struck.
  23. If you spend any time looking at most disasters they stem from a series of miscues that lead to the disaster happening or making it worse than it should have been. Usually the miscues are done by different people at different stages leading up to the disaster, but as pointed out the miscues in the case of the Concordia came from one individual- the Captain. This is the human element that most planners try to take into account but at the end of the day cannot be totally eliminated. With all of the redundancies built into modern aircraft it still took Captain Sullenberger to safely land a disabled jet on the water. Had he not been so skilled and competent all onboard would have been lost. As for calling the individual captain (I can't spell his name and don't want to take time looking it up), no- he was stripped of his ability to command a rowboat. In my view that puts him lower than a cabin steward or dishwasher (and putting him on the same level as them is an insult to them, since they still have their maritime credentials).
