If you’ve been on enough Viking cruises, you’ve probably spent some time in Bergen. We’ll be spending a couple of nights there after our upcoming cruise. Where should we eat? Last time we were there, I think we just went to a little grocery store for dinner and grabbed something boring. Surely we can do better than that?

Andy, we may not agree on all things Covid, but I am sorry to hear that a medical issue has caused you to have to cancel. We have been facing a similar situation; just got a reprieve for our cruise in September but have a big question mark after that. Hoping for the best of outcomes for you and your family.

Yes, a sleeve on the back would be ideal. I’m finding straps, like the one on the black ebags tote above, but not sleeves. Those of you who’ve used bags with a strap on the back rather than a sleeve, how has that worked out for you when you stack it on your carryon? I’m also wondering about small duffles, again with a sleeve on the back. I don’t need it to look pretty, just hold a lot and yet miraculously fit under the seat.

Reading today about the latest luggage snafu at Heathrow and various other luggage horror stories this summer has made me look more seriously at bringing only a carryon in September. I think I might just be able to manage it if I bring a capacious bag to go under the airplane seat as well. I’m looking for something that can sit on top of my carryon as I’m dragging it around. No backpacks or rollers. Suggestions?

Another laundry question: can you specify when you want things air-dried rather than run through a dryer? I put underwear and socks through the dryer but that’s about it.

When we took a Viking extension that included the train from Bergen to Oslo, Viking put all our luggage on a separate van and drove it to Oslo for us. It was at our hotel when we arrived.

This is a long shot, but has anyone tried to use Viking vouchers toward this when booking through the MVJ link? We have quite a bit of credit we need to use up before our cruise.

Interesting. Two Dublin excursions for this cruise go right up to 6 pm. Seems like a tight schedule if the ship is due to leave at 6. We did get a notice a while back that Dublin and Holyhead flipped days on this cruise, with Dublin now coming after Holyhead instead of before.

OK, finally got a helpful answer from Viking: —— Only excursions cancelled once you're onboard are refunded at the end of the cruise. If you cancel ahead of time on My Viking Journey, they're still refunded quickly back to your card. We've not changed that. —— So we can book our excursions this week without worry! 😀

We did the included tour in Porto and then wandered on our own. No problem at all getting a ride back to the ship.

Can you say a bit more about what happened when you changed excursions? I assume you canceled some excursions and then booked other ones. Did you get a refund for the canceled excursions prior to your cruise?

I should add that last January, we canceled our Holy Land cruise when Viking dropped the Holy Land part of it. This was 2-3 weeks before the cruise. All our excursion money went onto the vouchers. That’s what I’m trying to avoid this time around. If I can’t get an informative answer before we need to book, I’ll just go with only included excursions and look elsewhere for other options.
