  1. @dfish Now you have struck fear in my heart-I decided to make real mashed potatoes, and after reading about your Autumn Gold hand mixer, I looked at mine (my mom's-same as yours) and said a prayer...I'll let you know in a few hours. We were apparently raised in the Autumn Gold/Avocado generation. @kochleffelIt's been years, YEARS since i have roasted a chicken. I used to get a Perdue oven stuffer roaster, basically cannot find them in my area now, DH found a Publix chicken, we bought it, and noticed that it had to be used by the 20th, so I froze it, until the 21st, and put it in the fridge on Monday. There were no pieces parts to make giblet gravy with, but they had filled the cavity with water, and it was a block of ice when i was ready to stuff. So that got postponed for a half hour. I said dinner would be at 5:30, thinking maybe a bit later..... @JazzyVI am so sorry that you had to cancel your cruise. Was your BFF's father ill before you left, or was this THE emergency call we all hate to get. I hope all is well, and this will give you more time to get that tummy healed. And plan for another cruise. @VictOriann Happy Anniversary to you both! I hope it's a wonderful Happy Day! @kazuI know this is another hard day on you, you have had a hard year, but remember, you had lots of love in your life, and all the love that we Dailyites can send you today and forever.
  2. Happy Thursday dba Thanksgiving in the USA. My favorite part of the turkey is the stuffing. Hence the chicken today. I hope that where ever you are in the world today you know how thankful I am that you are in the world! off to clean, the cheater quiche came out a bit too sweet (darn way too buttery crescent rolls-so I only ate three slices) I miss diners! The only one that I knew of in our area closed during year one of covid. Then they tore it down, and built more apartments. There are famous diners in Atlanta, but face it, they do not look, feel or feed you like a diner in PA or NJ. have a wonderful day!
  3. DH and I both worked today. I loved all your responses, and yes I am a tactful telemarketer, while the phone is ringing, I look at the past history, and if that ask wasn't mandatory, I would be getting the old amount or something more. I mean after the ask, there is dead quiet. I will have to ask this director at what point do I rebreak the silence.... Today I called a very nice somewhat deaf older gentleman. I did my ask as I now know that I am being monitored, when i am at work and apparently as soon as my computer goes on ( I knew this, I just didnt think they really would do it)(bug the house) The man said, but I don't even go to the symphony anymore, I said I know that, maybe we should talk about that. He asked if I was selling tickets, and I said no, at this time, I was just hired to help with telemarketing for the annual fund. He said he would donate 100 dollars, and I thanked him and got the screen ready for his information, at which point he yelled-Get down! Get off of that. I said, Sir, are you yelling at my cat? He said no, I'm yelling at mine. If that conversation had happened earlier I bet I could have gotten a bigger donation. LOL. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, I make cheaters quiche. Instead of a pie crust, I roll out and press together a 6 pack of crescent rolls in a casserole dish. (crust) I brown chopped onions in butter, and brown sausage, throw in 2 cups of shredded cheddar and tomorrow I will mix the eggs and cream with salt, pepper and paprika, and bake like a regular quiche. aka betty crocker recipe. This will feed us all weekend, or I can use it as part of the main dinner if something goes wonky. I then made jiffy corn pudding, and then in the morning I start baking. All day. Quiche, pie, pudding, bird. I can make the stuffing when the pie is cooking, and peel potatoes while the pudding is cooking. I am very thankful I found the daily this past year. Thank you for welcoming all that wander here. Group hug.
  4. @Seasick Sailor One coin? One song....in the 60's it was MacArthur Park. In the 70's it was American Pie. Juke boxes still exist at Waffle house. I go in with a bunch of bucks, load the machine up with "oldies" and Motown which keeps the "chef" happy, And I always play Traci Chapman's You have a fast car. Good question.
  5. Happy Wednesday Dailyites! So many beautiful pictures you all have posted today! Thank you! Several things going on today, lights flickering in the house. Seems it happens when the new (3 year old) heater turns on, if there is another major appliance (like the washing machine, the dryer, the oven, on at the same time. This is not good, wiring is 59 years old. When I started dating DH his roommate was an electrician, however he passed away about 10 years ago, so we need to find someone. I think it might have something to do with all the vines that have attached to the lines from the street. DH thinks its a faulty fuse box. I would hate to have a spark somewhere in the house that burns the house down. Last night we had an emergency Zoom meeting for the Houston campaign. We were told that if we did not start our ask at 1000 dollars we would be let go. Turns out that I was not the only one that wasn't doing this, but my calls were monitored yesterday. And after the meeting I sat at my computer cursing my bosses. I am not good at asking for money. The bosses keep telling me that people in Houston have money. I must not be calling the right people. Any way after my brief temper tantrum, I started signing back in, and my phone rang. It was the BIG boss, so I could not ignore the call. She wanted to tell me that I had the best rapport with our patrons than anyone else, and she really didn't want to let me go, but I had to figure out how to get that big ask. She told me how to go from being their best friend to a serious fund raiser. But there was something else that was bothering me, and I feel like a child again, and dont know who to tell in management what my biggest fear was. Not rejection, heck, in this job I am used to rejection, it was the news that they were bringing in another boss to assist with this campaign. A boss that I asked to be let go from in April because I absolutely hate her micro managing, and her ability to belittle employees. A woman who shows up as a manager for the zoom meetings, and dresses to appear like Lady Godiva (naked). So I can wait to get fired, or I can ask to be moved to the Lincoln Center only, if she is not going to be part of that campaign, or I can do what she tells me and pray that I get moved to Hollywood Bowl in January, and be done with this. Sorry about the rant, but if anyone has any ideas on how to ask for 1000 bucks right off the bat, I would love to know. After that phone call, I called out for the rest of the day. Walked the neighbors dog. Puppy's mom is a single woman, who has two sisters who live somewhere in town, but she never sees them, so I invited her for Thanksgiving dinner. What was I thinking? I now not only have to cook, but clean! ARghhhhh! My dad used to fix mashed butternut squash (being a pure Yankee, everything we ate was boiled or broiled) I am not fixing butternut squash (I do love it though) I am doing a chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes and corn pudding souffle. Green peas, gravy, pumpkin pie ( I love you Marie Callandar) and chocolate tiger cake. And cranberry sauce. @bennybearI am sorry to read yesterday about the biopsy results, hope that the "exorcism" of them goes well. @seagarsmoker I hope that you both are feeling better soon. @ger_77I'm glad you are home. When you tell us what you are having each night at dinner, just makes me feel like I'm home.
  6. Good afternoon from almost somewhat sunny about to rain GA. The heater is on, but not really making the house warm. Feral Fawn went on a walk about this morning. Mr. Bubbles got on the porch with her last night, but after a few hours, he just had to do his wanderings. So maybe she was off looking for him, but I found her at the end of the street, where dog and I go. Dog hates cat. Cat high tailed it home once dog and i got around the corner.😸 Up early this morning for a meeting. I mean early, that alarm went off at 6, and I work until 9:30 tonight, so a long day for me, and my left eye is twitching again. This happened in 2020 and the doc in the box said it was too much eye strain from being on the computer all day, and I wasn't even working at that time.
  7. @dfishI will bring the cardboardeaux, but I want to bring my favorite wine, It's an Ariel, any red will do, it's an NA wine. Non alcoholic, great flavor but because it has no alcohol, they cant ship it east during the cold months, as the bottle will freeze. When I first started buying from them I would get a case at 12 bucks a bottle. Now it's like 33 a bottle. They won awards, they got famous, and now they are too expensive. As far as I know, there is no NA cardboardeaux. I guess in this case, it would just be an empty brown paper bag.
  8. @kazu Years ago a friend of mine fell, her foot swelled up, we took her for xrays and they said the foot was not broken. It was because her foot was so swollen that they could not pickup several hair lien fractures. Have you gone for an xray since you have been home? I know you basically just got home, but it could be that there is more going on than you know. I am worried about you. I have to admit that I let the DH sleep late this morning just so that I could sit down and enjoy your trip. I am glad that you are home, safe and sound. And guess who just got up? Right when I was done. All places look beautiful, and I can also see that with DH's vison problems and walking ability, Europe is going to be a challenge for him. And thank you Dailyites who cruised and posted pictures along with @kazu! Thank you for taking care of her!
  9. Happy Monday Morning! My tiny weather update says it's sunny and 31. My body went outside to feed the feral and the stray, and it's sunny and COLD! Odd socks? I know there is a monster in either the washer or dryer, that takes at least one of my socks every few weeks. But instead of tossing away the odd sock, I will save them and then tie all the strays together to make door stop.
  10. I was about to close the feral Fawn on her porch tonight, when I looked out, Bubbles had curled up on the wicker love seat too, both of them in front of the heater. Fawn was oblivious to the fact that he was on the seat with her, as she has her own pillow that she sleeps on, and her own blanket she curls up in. Very sweet. And then she woke up, you should have seen her face! She was standing up over him as he snored away. Her eyes were like saucers. I was worried that they may squabble but I realized that they were both appreciative of the warmth, so I went out, pet both of them, gave them food and closed the door. Within 5 minutes they had both gone back to bed. The Maples Dijon pork tenderloin was great, DH was very happy that he wasn't cooking tonight as he now cooks most nights now. This week with both of us with cut hours, he will only have to cook two nights.
  11. @summer slope on our last cruise (not HAL) we chose anytime, which was a fiasco. walk up, make a reservation, give them your cell phone number, they will call. which was more than an hour later, same at breakfast, and they seated us at a table with no waiter attached to that area. I finally stood up and grabbed one. After two days, we went to the concierge and got switched to assigned dining, and met some lovely people, and had a good wait staff. Turned out that the anytime dining was new staff, all of it, and the assigned dining was staff that had been taken from sold off ships. @Sharon in AZ And napping won out today, as I never received my schedule. I figure if the boss sends it, and I cant work it, I will just tell him. I went down for a two hour nap, and woke up 3 hours later. If I wasn't the one responsible for dinner, I would not have gotten up at all. I sleep so crappy at night waking up every two hours, I figure I will sleep when I can. I'll take a shower, knock some of the sleep off me, drink some coffee and make dinner-I found a recipe for Maple Dijon Pork Tenderloin, and will have that with instant mashed taters and green beans.
  12. Good Sunday Morning! My computer has a weather info spot. When I signed in early to vote for F1 Driver of the day, it said Weather warning. When I came back after the race, it said temps 37, now it says temps rise. Is that a warning? or hope for the future? oh, now it says 38. yup temps went up. This is way too cold for November in the south. It's like winter! And it keeps saying partly sunny. I am sure the sun is shining somewhere, but the clouds have blocked it here for the last 24 hours. I am currently waiting for my boss to send me my schedule for next week. Maybe I work tomorrow morning? Maybe I just work tomorrow night? This nap is calling me, but so is a trip to the store for cat food and jiffy corn bread. DH is responsible for dinner tonight, but he is thinking about working. @kazu and @rafinmd I hope that both of you heal quickly from your foot injuries. I think it is so delightful that the dailies get to meet each other on cruises! I do hope I get to meet a dailyite on my May cruise. 14 days on the NA. I have been trying not to read negative reviews on the HAL board. My first cruise with HAL will be in May to Alaska. But I can tell you a bit about cut backs on Carnival. I got a letter from them two weeks ago telling me about some of the cut backs on our next cruise (October 2023). Like no serve yourself ice cream or pizza 24/7. Turns out that a lot of people get ice cream in the middle of the night, and then realize that they really don't want to eat it. Same with people who show up at 3 a.m.. for pizza. I bet alcohol has something to do with these food choices. Yes you can order a second plate in the MDR, but it will be a half plate. So if you order that second tiny lobster tail, you can get another second tiny lobster tail, but not with the veggies. And if you want a third entre, they will charge you. So order smartly the first time. Heck that was the important info about food that I got. But our steward told me on our last cruise, that he was the only steward in that section of the ship, they gave him more money, but no help. He NEVER got a day off for 6 months, and when the ship was being retired, he was given a choice of where he wanted to go next, and he chose home. So cut backs continue...I will not worry about the food during the middle of the night, I am not awake in the middle of the night. And if I really want it, there is always room service. Well F1 is now over for 2022, the weather spot on the screen shows now up to 39. @StLouisCruisersenjoy whatever warmth you find on your cruise, cause it's cold back home!
  13. Good Saturday Afternoon! I got up early to print my paperwork for my new campaign, watched qualifying for the F1 race, and attended my training session for my new campaign. While my new boss is not snowed in, (he lives in Rochester) I think he is lonely, cause that meeting lasted 2.5 hours! Then after the meeting, I made a sandwich and got on line for Houston calls as I had call backs. None of the call backs showed up, but I did get a donation.🙂 My new campaign is Friends of Lincoln Center. Fund rasing. So two fund raising gigs at the same time. I am not very good at fund raising. I'm supposed to be asking for 1000, and heck, I'm happy if they donate 10 bucks. I must learn to be more assertive. My "hire" boss says I'm afraid of rejection and that there is no harm in asking for a thousand. People have money. My problem is, I don't know people with "MONEY" anymore, so I am happy with a donation which gives them a warm fuzzy hug feeling, and I want to spread the warm fuzzy love feeling along for the rest of the day. And I guess it would help if my leads had given a thousand before, but I'm calling 10-100 buck donors. So this week I ended up with 950 in donations, and one sale for mr wacky for 150.00. Thank you all for the support today. To all of you who are sailing this week- @grapau27Thank you for the food porn! What a spread! I made a pot roast in the crock pot yesterday, with veggies, and it was wonderful! Irving cat got a piece, DH and I had two slices, and we had sandwiches today made with the left overs, but we dont have enough left to make it a dinner tonight, so it's take DH out for BBQ tonight as soon as he gets off work. His boss is pretty much giving them the week off next week. They work Monday and Tuesday and then they are off. I work short shifts on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with two shifts on Tuesday. But his boss is letting them work tomorrow....which means I get yard work! Yippee! or nap. hmmm... @Quartzsite Cruiser I hope they can solve the mystery of what's going on with your DH's blood pressure. Hope this little guy can help- Munster cheese. Or as my mom called it Monster cheese. My dad was very fond of it, but mom believed the smell to over power every thing in the fridge, so Dad was allowed to buy it in the late fall, and early spring, and leave it on the porch. He would get home from work, walk in the house, and head to his cheese. I love the crispy mushrooms. Fried mushrooms, are a food from the fry gods. I have no idea what i will do with all the free time on my hands not working 8 hour days....I am currently doing a Death in Paradise marathon on Britbox, I could learn to nap, and try actual cooking. Oh the wonders of life! I meant to mention something about apple cider yesterday. Apple Cider does not mean that there is alcohol in it, while in my drinking days I did enjoy that. It has something to do with the pressing of the apple... I however like cider hot or cold... The main difference between apple cider vs apple juice comes down to pasteurization. Apple cider tends to be unpasteurized and unfiltered, while apple juice is nearly always pasteurized and filtered. Apple cider may contain pulp, while apple juice won’t. These factors affect flavor, expiration, and composition. Funnily enough, while this means apple juice can exist without refrigeration and apple cider must be refrigerated, apple juice is often consumed cold while apple cider is consumed hot.
  14. Happy Friday eve! We had our "goodbye" (aka group exit interview) review from "town shall remain anonymous" this afternoon. First the boss asked my co worker and I what we heard from people as far as excuses of non renewal, we gave him our lists, they pretty much matched....bad customer service, terrible hall, and awful parking. and then in this zoom meeting, he thanked us and asked if our other bosses thought we were terrible at calling, that we were too slow, and didn't call fast enough., We both said NO in unison, and while Mitch and I were considering what our other bosses have said, our boss, turned the meeting off. It was like, thank you for your work, you both did terribly, good bye. Bizarre. Another reason to move on I guess. I seem to be pretty much in demand for work, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.
  15. Good Friday Morning! I do like the quote. Your career and dream will never say it doesn't love you any more., now a job, will. Today is my last day in Asheville(virtually) and tomorrow I'm in Houston, again via the phone not there in person. I guess I add NYC next week. I travel daily without suitcase, I only have to pack a good attitude, and sometimes that is tough to pack. I love Disney, except I am not a big fan of the Actual Mouse. I love apple cider (another good reason to stop at Cracker Barrell) Never thought of myself as a Princess, in hind sight I was a bit of a diva, but I got over that, now I'm a Queen-Ager. LOL. I did work in the box office, with a young woman who always wore a tiara. When people at the window asked her about it, she looked at them, completely serious and said she was a princess. One year I pulled her name for Secret Santa, and I bought her a new tiara. That was easy! Last night was sort of an old boss reunion....I contacted my "hiring" boss about that "new " contract. He said he realized that it looked weird, but I was actually starting at a base pay, but promised up to 14 an hour, I am hoping that this works, as my hours got seriously cut. Then my boss from last November, December and April texted me to tell me that she was in the process of moving from Houston where she lived with her mom, and moving to Louisiana. With her mom, they are trying to buy a house next door to her niece (who is a nurse) so that if Mom takes a turn for the worse, then at least she has her own nurse. I get it. Move closer to family, family takes care of family...(unless it was my family).
  16. @Quartzsite Cruiser Why is the mermaid using a cell phone?
  17. @StLouisCruisers Say that temp is not so! 32 in stone mountain. I still have not gotten to the store, but now that I am down to cans of soup, and stale french bread, it's time! Just waiting for DH to get up guzzle some coffee and head out. I even called in to work to let them now it was now a food emergency. That, and I worked 9.5 hours yesterday, and lets face it for a part time job? it's way too full time. To all of you getting ready for your cruises and travels, travel safely and cruise happy! Have a great Thursday!
  18. Good Wednesday Morning! Feral Fawn is now hunkering down in the warm porch earlier and earlier each day, and I think yesterday she came out twice....Bubbles has taken over the box (there is a bed in it) but I will need to get him a blanket. We heard back from the vet yesterday, she gave us some tips for relieving Irving's litter box pain, but with his rapid weight loss, it looks like he might have cancer. Of course more tests to follow. And it might also be arthritis....and it does appear he has kitty dementia. ( i could have saved some money on those tests) But now we have to keep a food diary for the cat. And he needs to be taken in again for another weigh in, if he is still losing weight, it's time to test for cancer with x rays. ( I thought there was a blood test, that tested for cancer). We did have a fire in the wood burning stove last weekend, looks like we will be buying wood in bulk this year. Today is a long work day, and sometime before Friday I really need to go to the store. I have no idea when though. I really didnt need to clean the fridge the other day...It had already been cleaned out.
  19. System is still down, zoom meeting still on. Meeting with the client (Houston Symphony). DH went to the store to get crunchy french bread, cheese, and cookies. Chili is ready, but I dont get to eat it until the meeting is over.
  20. Pat never called, so I am assuming she doesn't want my help, or she got the info from me she needs. Didn't hear from her at all. And yesterday, I had to track her down. Today I didnt bother. She did call Barbara over to take what she wanted from Shari's. She asked me what I wanted, and i told her an old Christmas tree I had given Shari the first year she had moved in, (her mom was complaining that Shari didn't decorate) bet it has been trashed, that was many many years ago. I was right in the middle of a sale, and got a text to get off line, thought I would stop in and catch up. I finished the sale. I have a zoom meeting with the other group at 6.
  21. Good Tuesday Morning! Its cold and rainy, Fawn was happy on the porch, and Bubbles was in the box. Not that Bubbles likes it, but he does allow petting while he is in the box. Trying to un wild the wild. Well I guess i'll be helping Pat this morning, working "in" Ashville for 4 hours, and then become" Houston" tonight. Chili is on the menu for tonight, so I guess some cooking is involved somewhere between todays adventures. So off to fix breakfast and get a handle on the chili.
  22. @summer slope I have three almost empty bottles of Theraworx, I used it twice last night, and got up and walked around the inside of the house for about 15 minutes (twice) I wonder if it will work if i put it on before I lie down. The minute i lie down i feel the muscles start to twitch, not cramp, just tingle. But tomorrow is a very long day, and I need to sleep!
