  1. I'm not sure where you acquired your information, but $941 is in fact the correct current amount: (2) The penalty imposed for the unlawful transportation of passengers between coastwise points is $300 for each passenger so transported and landed on or before November 2, 2015, and $941 for each passenger so transported and landed after November 2, 2015 (46 U.S.C. 55103, as adjusted by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015). https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-19/chapter-I/part-4/subject-group-ECFR610bc0266d90628/section-4.80
  2. WICO = West India Company Limited. The Havensight Mall is located on the WICO property, as are the docks.
  3. I'm sure that you were simply checking to see who was paying attention!😇
  4. For 2024, the Ontario March break is the 11th - 15th. So on the 16th, Ontarians will be disembarking and heading home, and shouldn't pose a problem for the OP.
  5. Thanks, I'll bear that in mind for our next trip! Thread drift terminated...
  6. John's on Pleasant Street over in Dartmouth was always my favourite for a feed of fried clams when we lived in Halifax.
  7. It depends largely on what you are looking for. When we started cruising, we looked for a travel agency that specialized in cruises and let them do all of the work. Other than saying that we were looking for a Caribbean cruise and an approximate duration, and giving a target budget, we left it to the TA to recommend a cruise line, itinerary, accommodation, etc. We weren't aware of the concept of perks, although I think we did receive a bottle of cheap wine from the TA. Many cruises later, now we do all of the legwork ourselves and tell the TA exactly what we want. Or, more often than not, book with the TA directly online. We are looking for perks, not for hand holding, and we've remained with the same big box company ever since they opened their Canadian travel arm a few years ago. Friends and family would be a good place to start. It would also be useful for you to indicate where you live in Alberta, as other CC members living there might be able to steer you in the right direction while remaining within the rules.
  8. Very odd and clearly erroneous. Actually, the whole paragraph is poorly worded as, for example, people who require a visa to enter the US don't require an ESTA as well. RCI's website, like those of several other cruise lines, would benefit from some in-depth proof reading.
  9. That's not entirely accurate. Some cruise lines require that your Canadian passport be valid for a period of 6 months beyond the end of the cruise, even if the countries visited don't require it. For example, from the RCI website: Accepted Identification for International Guests (non-U.S. Citizens) For US Sailings: Non-US Citizens will require a passport valid at least 6 months after your cruise ends and the necessary visa for entry into the United States. On Transatlantic and Transpacific sailings European and Chinese guests will require ESTA (Europe) and EVUS (China). ESTAs are mandatory for everyone travelling to the US. You must apply for an ESTA no later than 72 hours before departing for the United States. Real-time approvals are not available and arriving at the airport without a previously approved ESTA will likely result in being denied boarding. For International Sailings: Non-US Citizens will require a passport book valid at least 6 months after your cruise ends and the supporting visa for entry and exit from the country, if applicable. For cruises departing Australia calling into only Australian ports, Australian citizens require either a valid passport or government issued pictured and laminated ID card to be used as identification. Children aged 17 years and under will require a passport or Birth Certificate to travel or government issued photo ID. Children under 16 years of age, who do not have a passport or Photo ID, must have a copy of their birth certificate or their parents Medicare Card. For all other nationalities, a passport (plus visa if needed in Australia) is required. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-travel-documents-i-need-for-boarding-day
  10. It's about a 7 mile drive from the tender port. Grab a taxi or uber.
  11. The latest forecast track, updated at 9 PM tonight. Two things to notice: 1. Québec City is well outside the zone. I've pinpointed its location. 2. At 2 PM Saturday, the storm centre will still be well offshore. All things taken into account, you should not have to worry about flights into Quebec City.
  12. Unfortunately, some people only hear what they want to hear. I very much doubt that any post saying that she only needs a non-enhanced DL would have survived without multiple posts correcting the misinformation.
  13. Anyone who travels to the US with any regularity should explore the Canada+US Rogers Infinite plan. You can use your plan’s talk, text and data in the US just like you do here without any roaming fees. Other Canadian carriers may have similar plans.
  14. You might be right. Personally, I would have thought that a good distribution plan would entail getting it out to the provinces and into people's arms as quickly as possible. You could apply the percentage going to each province and territory whatever the size of the incoming shipments.
  15. This updated article says that the new vaccine will start arriving in Canada tomorrow, but for some reason will not be shipped out to the provinces until October. With all of the lead time that both federal and provincial governments have had to prepare for its arrival, it's ridiculous IMO that there would be a two week or more period between the time that the vaccine arrives and the time distribution starts. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/moderna-approved-1.6963996
  16. For much of your cruise, even when in Canadian waters, you will not be in range of a land-based cell tower, so if you don't turn it off or put it in airplane mode, you will be routed through the ship's cell tower. That means if someone phones you, sends you an email or you get a notification, or if you try to use the internet, you will run up a very expensive bill. Use it normally when in a Canadian port, but for the rest of the cruise, treat it in the same way as you would on a Caribbean cruise.
  17. Just to make sure that there's no misunderstanding, you can to the same thing with Google maps.
  18. Moderna’s updated COVID vaccine targeting XBB.1.5 approved in Canada The headline to this breaking news. No information yet on when it will be available. https://apple.news/AV4ijWDOXRriSUidPrgVBVA
  19. The US Food and Drug Administration today approved updated Covid vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna targeting the omicron variant XBB.1.5., with an anticipated mid-September availability https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/11/covid-vaccines-fda-approves-new-shots-from-pfizer-moderna.html There will be a press conference in Ottawa tomorrow that may see information on the approval and release dates in Canada. It's possible that you'll be able to get your booster here before heading out. https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/news/2023/09/government-of-canada-officials-to-hold-a-technical-briefing-on-covid-19-vaccines-in-canada-september-12-2023.html
  20. Welcome to Cruise Critic and the Canadian Cruisers board. Here's a link to the e-visa portal: https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/eVisa/Home;jsessionid=lOs27TuNmMJ3Hr68o9EXsBH4Po5gCLw3oKM2d674.pp-ui-01?VISTK=BAIV-FYK0-2RM6-BKVB-VT8Q-48RJ-9JUZ-N6K2-WHUP-9RYG-S06L-MOF2-77HC-IU1C-GPFE-MPI0 There continues to be some uncertainty, but it appears now that any e-visa issued prior to October 1 will be accepted for the duration of its period of validity. You might want to read through the thread to get a better understanding of the issues.
  21. In March 2019, I checked each of the port schedules for our upcoming 2 week Norwegian cruise. For our June 14 visit to Trondheim, the port authority showed us tendering at a secondary port facility about 4 K from the main port, where HAL indicated we would dock. This other facility was little more than a marina for sailboats. HAL was adamant that we would be docking, so I wrote to the port authority asking them to clarify the situation. On March 27, they confirmed in writing that we would be tendering at the secondary port, just as the website showed. HAL continued to insist that we would be docking, but sure enough, we tendered from the other facility. Fortunately, they were able to arrange for shuttle buses to take us into town and back. No, Trondheim is not on the list of tender ports. Maybe guest services was using that as their source of information when insisting we would be docking. Lineup to return to the ship: The tender port:
  22. We stayed in Kona for two weeks a few years ago and enjoyed a day's outing to VNP. Driving time is about 2 hours. If you have 13 hours available, allow 4 hours for travelling back and forth and 2 hours before and after your trip, that leaves you with 5 hours to visit VNP. Based on the times of my first and last photos taken that day at the park, we were there just under 5 hours and saw a great deal during that time. Yes, it's a long, full day, but very much worth it IMO, especially if this might be your only opportunity to visit the park.
  23. HAL's Port Tender List includes ports at which we've docked and doesn't include ports at which we've tendered, so I wouldn't put too much faith in its accuracy.
