  1. To piggy back on this - if you did miss your flight, what are the chances that all seven (or nine) of you could be accommodated on the next flight. It may take several days for your entire party to return home.
  2. Good Will is not a factor - you as a consumer should be aware of all the facts - refundable or non refundable before you hit submit. Perhaps it would have been better to use a travel agent or PVP. Since you are now determined to give up on HAL - please remember that other cruise lines also have non-refundable fares, so be sure to make an informed decision.
  3. Yes - the Cristoforo Colombo. In our family we always refer to the Italian line ships as the Doria, Colombo, or da Vinci
  4. Yes that would have been on the Colombo to Venice. Ironically Trieste was the final port - or the starting port - depending on the direction of travel.
  5. They may - they may not. If you are one of those people who “I only booked this cruise because I wanted to see one specific port in Turkey” , then perhaps booking one of these cruises may not be for you. Anybody booking these cruises needs to realize that ports - even ports of embarkation/disembarkation are not guaranteed, and may change at short notice. If you are not able to roll with the punches, then you may want to reconsider.
  6. Asking for a friend? Is being on a repeat inaugural cruise ( not this ship’s first cruise) that important to you all? I am sorry but I just do not get it, and is Carnival truly charging a premium for the perceived uniqueness of a ship that has been around the block for several years?
  7. A good insurance policy - although so many will say - in xxxxxxx number of cruises I have never needed any insurance - is always a good thing to have.
  8. All are good cruise itineraries on their own (especially if this is your first time in Europe).Given the cost and hassle involved in flying to Europe, I would select the longer Eleven day itinerary.
  9. Being proactive to avoid all of the people on the other cruise lines bemoaning the fact that the one port they have always wanted to go to - and now they can’t go to - and will never sail with again issues. Better to wait until things stabilize and give people time to plan accordingly.
  10. It is a ship….it is the ocean. Not a skyscraper built with foundations several stories into the ground.
  11. Things change - inaugural sailings are often delayed - this one happens to be moved up. No guarantees in life.
  12. From one Colonial to another - I totally agree!
  13. Agree with everything. My time estimate may be less as I have very long legs.
  14. Vancouver hotels are not inexpensive at the best of times - during the summer cruise season, the prices are astronomical - although I have seen some people “claim” that they have stayed at the Pan Pacific for $300 in August- the true cost will be much higher. You are paying for the location which can’t be beat. The Fairmont on Burrard - less than ten minutes (walking) up the street is equally expensive. There are also those on various boards that have “claimed” to pay $200 for a hotel in Vancouver. I would recommend the Sheraton Wall Centre - also on Burrard - just a little further north of the Fairmont. If you are fairly mobile it is a 10-15 minute walk to Canada Place and very central to the main shopping streets of Robson and Alberti, and an amazing Thai restaurant - Sahla Thai. Not cheap, but more reasonable than the Pan Pacific or Fairmont. Again, if you are fairly mobile, on the morning of your departure, you can easily make the walk down to Canada Place to literally - watch your ship come in .

    MAGNETS

I am inspired - I have never seen a stainless wall like that before!

    MAGNETS

I did that once as well on an extended Mediterranean cruise - I think it is a great idea for the cabin.
  17. You are the voice of reason !
  18. But there will always be others who will take your place - and truly if there is an itinerary / price that you can’t pass up, will you truly not book on principle?
  19. But what if there are ten cabins in a row with magnets? Anything is possible. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
  20. They have given people 9-10 months of advance notice. That is plenty of time to find an alternate cruise - if not with Royal, then someone else.
  21. Going to ask - who will be paying for the flights and hotels if necessary? I doubt they will pay your PVSA fine which I believe is in the range of $900 - that is if you are even allowed to fly to catch the ship in Hawaii.
  22. I am confused - you wanted to continue your cruise despite your injuries? Please provide full details.
