  1. I remember when RCI had a fictional character break the ceremonial champagne bottle. No idea who was inside the suit, so if any ship is jinxed, it is that one. Now we are having Godfathers instead of Godmothers. Next thing you know they will be serving bananas on board. Might as well have cats and dogs living together.
  2. I know it is not uncommon, I have read about this passport thing here on CC in numerous threads. I understand the logistics of why it is done. I still don't like it, as the security implications are quite alarming. I am pretty sure that when I got my passport, there was something in the documentation from the State Department saying never to give your passport to anyone else.
  3. Funny, the pics of the Heroes bar are making me want to hang out there on my September cruise, and I am not a sports fan. It just looks like a place that isn't(as my wife would call it) peopley.
  4. I would definitely have one of the lamb dishes, Indians make some of the best lamb dishes I have had. I think I would go with the lamb appetizer and the chicken entree, and the kheer for dessert.
  5. The Indian food looks good, I am posting too late to offer much in the way of suggestion. However, one of the deserts, Kheer, is similar to a rice pudding, but thinner and with more aromatic spices.
  6. Nice choice in masks! I also bought a plague doctor style for my sailing, although mine also has a sort of hat like flourish.
  7. Obviously, it is their ship and thus their rules. However, I wonder why a rolling cooler is any more of an impediment to the boarding and security process than a rolling suitcase as a carry on? I wonder if the thick foam insulation is harder to X-ray? Then again, I am old enough to remember when rum runners were all the rage to discuss here on CC.
  8. I got the feeling that the Ji Ji listing was an IT error, and it was never planned for this ship. NYC is still for the most part just as safe or unsafe as it has been in recent memory. What worries me more are the stories I am reading about hotel reservations being altered/canceled because of government contracts to address specific short term housing issues. Ove at [that other website] DW tells me there are several things being planned for our cruise. As so much is unknown, it is kind of hard to plan anything, but anyone have any ideas?
  9. I agree that the menu doesn't seem that different from a few local(ish) places. That isn't a deal breaker to me. What leads me away from here is that there are so many upcharges on the menu after the upcharge just to walk in the door. That and in the original announcement for the ship they mentioned that the MDR will feature items from the Italian restaurant on the other Carnival ships. So, if the mood really strikes me, I can eat in the MDR for Italian fare.
  10. We will be on the Venezia on September 17, going to Nova Scotia. DW is active over on [that other website that isn't CC] where she networked with the person who made and sold the shirts. They have the ship name and dates, and the back is a map of the route.
  11. Someone from our cruise made them and sold them online. I bought them for DW and myself.
  12. My local Target has them, as does my super market. What is this 4X points promotion?
  13. On my lats cruise, which was on RCI, not Carnival, DW & I were at a table for 4. The other younger couple were I believe on their honeymoon. There was a slight language barrier, in that they wee more comfortable in a different language, the Husband spoke with us, but the wife just exchanged pleasantries. That was night one, on night two they didn't show up. I asked if we needed to wait to order and the waiter said they had requested a different table. The waiter was aware that we would be alone for the rest of the cruise and could change accordingly. One the one night we went to a specialty restaurant, we let the waiter know that he would not have anyone at that table. It just seemed like common courtesy.
  14. I certainly hope so, we don't have kids. Seriously, we have been to character breakfasts in theme parks as well as on other ships. They can be fun if you are a fan of the characters. It is basically a breakfast with visits and photo ops at each table. Not sure if they will attempt green eggs & ham, which is always an iffy proposition.
  15. I also plan on bringing Drip Drop packets with me. I got a free case during a promotion a couple of years ago, and it is time to buy more anyway, since that was used up. I buy directly from their website, since I get a 20% discount from an association membership I have.
  16. Hi all, DH to AlranaEris, we both post here. The Green Eggs and Ham breakfast is open for bookings now. We got ours, this morning, I am a lifelong Dr. Seuss fan.
  17. You could get a commercially available Mustard costume (might come with Ketchup) then add the hat and vest and go as the Mustard Captain! You could even go with a silly over the top sea captain hat that would hang off the mustard spout.
  18. We booked a September cruise on the same ship, we could only choose from Terazza, Cove balcony or one balcony all the way up on deck 14. We chose that one and have since found out that it has no roof. I hope the weather is nice. I was surprised that this ship has sold out so fast, considering that so much of it is unknown.
  19. I have wondered about that also, in my city, you can drive down the street and the smell is picked up by your car's heat or AC. I am sure such concentration is fairly low, but the idea of how a potential contact high will affect tests at work is a question waiting to be asked in some companies.
  20. I don't think it matters if we talk about dressing for dinner, smoking on the balcony or playing music by the pool. It ever ceases to amaze me the number of people who will book a cruise and then be adamant they should not have to comply with whatever the cruise line says the rules are. Yes, you paid for the cruise, so did everybody else. I don't own a cruise line or even a boat. I am certainly not privy to why the lines make the rules they do. every one of the rules is posted publicly. Back in the day you got it in writing. Now most everything is digital. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone if the rules are enforced when they break them. As I wrote that last sentence, I realized that many of us would be genuinely surprised if the rules were enforced, and that is the gist of this thread. For whatever reason, Carnival (and other lines also) enforce their rules sporadically at best. Based on the new video, and some recent stories, it looks like some rules are going to be enforced but I am sure the majority of them will not. What is the point of rules if nobody follows them, and nobody enforces them?
  21. As I prepare for my first cruise on Carnival in quite a while, I have been reading many of these threads. While I know it is common to say the decline in dressing up for dinner is a carnival thing, I will say it is a societal thing. Our last cruise was on RCI, Oasis of the Seas. My wife and I dressed for formal night (or what used to be called formal night) and while there were a handful of men in jackets and a few even with ties, mostly it was just dress shirts and slacks. The women were a little better, but I chalk that up to the greater variety of styles available to women. I saw one man who was in a tuxedo, he matched his tie and cummerbund to his wife's dress. They looked nice but also out of place. However, in addition to the tuxedo was a man in his finest basketball tank top and matching ball cap. So even on RCI there was no enforcement of any dress code. I have seen this more and more frequently on land also.
  22. Carnival being a private company and us passengers sailing under a contract with them, they do not need to have any legal elements present to make a claim of public intoxication. They can define it any way they want to. Our contracts say we have to follow the rules, and I bet have something along the lines of they can change any rule at any time without notice. They are governed entirely by their bottom line, which can be a good or a bad thing. When they take enforcement action, they have to decide if it will cost more for them to enforce a rule than it would cost for them not to enforce it. This could factor in everything from potential bar bills to fines to future cruise bookings to lawsuits. I don't envy them having to make these decisions.
  23. One does not need probable cause to obtain a search warrant, as the search warrant may help obtain the probable cause for an arrest. One must swear in front of a judge that they reasonably believe that they will find evidence of a crime if a crime was committed. While ships security. crew can search the cabin, and they are generally not bound by probable cause requirements at all, the question is, do they know how to conduct a search without contaminating evidence? Searching for contraband in accordance with a cruise contract is a very different thing from searching a crime scene for evidence which may need to be presented in a court.
  24. I have heard from family in law enforcement that it is better to have a warrant even when there is consent to search. The cruise line can give consent for the cabin one it is no longer rented; I believe the husband would need to give consent for any belongings.
