NCL cruise with overnight stay in port
Treasure Hunter replied to delalmario's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Try Lucca for the Florence port especially if you’ve been to Florence and Pisa before. It’s a gorgeous walled medieval city with great food. -

Thank you. I would love if they made friends but they have each other so I won't push it. -
Comparison NCL Joy Haven to Celebrity Beyond Retreat

Ten days during school. I don’t know when the poster was going but her daughter is 15 so 3-5 year olds ( pre school) wouldn’t help her. If during school breaks, holidays or summer I’m sure you are right and there would be more kids. We are taking our 15 and 17 year old grandchildren on Constellation in June to Greece but it’s port intensive and we’ll do beach days too. -

Only you know your child. On the last cruise out of a 90 % full cruise ( Edge) there were two toddlers and a baby. -
Just got off the Edge. The Concierge said that it is the most requested item asked for. The Concierges don't want to do it because its a lot of work for them. We really miss it. Always did it on Princess and it was a really nice perk. No charge from the airline if you had a certain status and no charge from Princess if you were in a suite. I remember on cruises in the 90's the airlines had big trucks on the pier and your luggage went right into the truck from the ship. Less and less personal attention every year.

There are tons of taxis and beach shuttle vans available at Royal Dockyards. But I’m afraid it won’t be warm enough for the beach. Probably in the 60s. Hamilton is a fun town to walk around with nice lunch places and shops.. years ago we used to feed giant tortoises but I think they closed down the place.

I just got off the Edge in a Celebrity suite and have been on NCL Bliss and Encore. A fifteen year old will enjoy NCL twice as much. When we cruise with kids and grandkids it’s NCL ( used to be RCCL). The food on the Edge Luminae was not good. We got great great meals in Raw on Five , Eden and the Rooftop Grill. Celebrity entertainment was meh. Two good singers and very strange shows. Going on Getaway with daughter and grandkids for winter break next week. We have a two bedroom family suite in theHaven. This is a room we take even if going alone. Food in the Haven restaurant is great. Entertainment is great. Million Dollar Quartet andBurn the Floor. Back on the Edge following week in aRoyal Suite and since specialty restaurants are free have book all dinners in those. -
My daughter in law got it through recommendations from a mothers group she belongs to on line. Several women said it was great but I have not personally stayed there. It is a smaller property with personal service.

Tipping when staying in Haven suite
Treasure Hunter replied to sldmh's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
They will have them at the Haven Concierge on the last day. We tip the first day a small amount to start ( maybe $20 to the steward and $40 to the butler) when we tell them certain things we need. Type of snacks, that the sofa has to be made up as a bed each night, that we need more towels, hangers etc. we tip the concierge if they arrange to bring usdown to the shows early and if they print out my husbands NY Times crossword each morning with a smile. We don’t drink so we don’t have a beverage package but I find if I tip I’m rarely charged for a coke. We tipped the Maitre’D when he suggested we eat our dinner and come back for dessert after an early show that we wanted to attend. And depending how everything goes we tip our steward and butler and concierge on the last day similar to the quoted suggestions. -
The pool and lower sundeck is totally for kids. It’s only the upper outside sundeck that is 16+. Do not panic. Everyone will have a fabulous time.

On the Edge last week they also showed the “Crawdads” one and on the tv were some Sundance independent type movies , a few British ones that I never heard of that were interesting.

No more Maine for our fall cruise
Treasure Hunter replied to Uff da's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Princess pulled out of Bar Harbor too. Cruise is from Brooklyn. They substituted Rockland Maine and Boston. Too bad about Portland as last year on the NCL Breakaway we had a great time in both ports just walking around and eating lobster rolls (DeMillo’s in Portland on the harbor). -
10:00. The lines will be moving by then and by the time you get through security and check in it will be time to board.
-
And why are the shuttles a mystery? Why can’t the info appear on the website? Princess manages to do it!

The flight from Bologna is not non stop. That’s why we are going all the way to Venice. Either way, it’s not ideal. But Bologna is beautiful. Enjoy!

Cold and flu medication what’s allowed

I alway pack in my checked luggage cough medicine, and liquid pesto bismol. I’ve never had any problem and have never transferred them to my carry on. -
Is a 10:10 am flight leaving Barcelona doable in October?
Treasure Hunter replied to HBLm3's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Stay one night ( or more if possible). Barcelona is a fabulous city. Although the pier is right in town and easily walkable to many sights and only a half hour taxi to the airport it will be rush hour. I’d be eating my guts out. -
You have to call. It is not on the website. It is $58 per person. The trip is two hours. I don’t see how they can possibly get you to the airport on the same day for a noon departure.

Celebrity vs NCL, which is better
Treasure Hunter replied to sunshine4me2's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
If you sail In suites, the Haven blows the Retreat food and service out of the water. We just got off the Edge and the entertainment was pretty terrible. Going on NCL Getaway in February and can’t wait to see Million Dollar Quartet. Traveling with grandkids and there would have been little for them on the Edge. We were very disappointed in the food in Luminae . But Celebrity specialty restaurants were excellent. Lucky we had tons of OBC because they were pricy. -
Just got off the Edge in a Celebrity suite and Luminae wasn’t any better than the MDR. You had to eat in Eden, Raw at 5 or the Roof Top Grill to get decent entree. The escargot, onion soup and Caesar salad were good and that’s it. The lobster was the size of my pinky. The prices go up and the food goes down. The debt must be enormous.

# of passengers on ship and other questions
Treasure Hunter replied to denys222's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Just got off the Edge. It was at 90% capacity with the Retreat fully booked. We eat early ( they open Luminae at 5:15 for dinner so never waited. ) Booked specialty restaurants 5 out of 10 nights. Next time I’ll use my OBC to book more. Sundeck was empty on port days so was able to find shade. Sea days were tough. Have to be creative and get up there early as shade is insufficient . -
No direct flights from Bologna to New York. You have to change planes in Paris or Amsterdam ( Delta). Bologna is one hour from the cruise pier in Tavenna and beautiful. Also if you have a late flight Celebrity has an excursion that stops in Padua and gets you to Venice around three ?
