  1. I’ve were on the Breakaway September 18 and it was all Coke😀😀😀😀
  2. Yes I’ve been on the Getaway and Breakaway recently ( I’m a gambler) and would go more often out of Mew York but the ships are limited. The smoking is a terrible problem and often the smokers aren’t even playing but come into the casino to smoke. Especially on cold weather cruises. NCL is losing money by allowing this.
  3. The north shore has the Polynesian Cultural Center which is more like a theme park with shows not rides( we loved it) and the Dole plantation on the way ( yummy pineapple and soft ice cream) also surfing beaches and food trucks).
  4. I should probably not respond anymore since this discussion is becoming a little nasty, “ you should be so proud ruining a family’s vacation. “ I’d hate to see someone argue other age restricted venues like the gym because they want their child with them while they work out. The kid can hand them their weights. After all they are paying to use the whole ship.
  5. It is not just principle. It is for the 10 and 12 year olds right behind him and who’s mother wants to know why her kids ( who are throwing a towel back and forth like it’s the Super Bowl) can’t stay too.
  6. All the toys mentioned like lazer tag and go carts are also for retired grandparents with money to bring their kids and grandkids on board. Those amenities are not in the Haven. We are talking about one upper deck in the Haven for adults. And I love the shows, casino, trivia, shooting pool with grandkids in the main ship. Just let me have the one spot for a few hours. Remember the Haven is advertised as the boutique ship within the ship. I’ve been on 50+ cruises including Regent , Oceania, Princess, Celebrity and RCCL and we have found our happy place in the NCL Haven.
  7. Thank you Beamco. I’m not a person who complains. I just suck it up. We pay so much to be in the Haven and hope that everyone observes the rules. So we can all enjoy. I love my grandchildren but when we are together they stay in the pool area, the main pools, arcade, kids clubs, beaches on excursions. We are treating them to Williamsburg and Disney. They will not be on the adult only sundeck.
  8. Our last Caribbean cruise in the Haven there was a young family with two adorable children who sat directly behind us doing homework, discussing their answers. I asked one server if they were allowed on the sundeck and he shrugged. He didn’t want a confrontation and neither did I. I should t have been put in that situation. The sign clearly stated 16 and up. Yes I know adults can be loud talking in the hot tub etc. but the ship has many kid friendly places. Please give me one without them.
  9. Jeans are way too hot for the Caribbean and take up a lot of packing space. Khakis or light weight cotton pants. My husband bought two pairs of black Bonobos and wears them with a golf shirt or Hawaiian type shirt. Hardly anyone dresses up. If you want to take a blazer that's fine too.
  10. My gastroenterologist says Pepto Bismol is the best ( tried and true) to take for any runs situation
  11. Ok, so we are going on the 8 day February winter break cruise from NY. Booked through the Casino a two bedroom Haven stateroom. Re-priced it three times. I am the primary. My Husband and myself have the big cruise price. We don't drink alcohol so no drink package and saved on the drink gratuities. There are five of us. We dropped the husband sometime before payment in full. Two grandkids are free except for port charges and taxes and I added standard NCL insurance for all of us. Daughter is $480? Something like that, she will sleep on sofa in living room. She likes a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. It is cheaper to just charge as she goes with that. I bought premium WIFI for my husband ( he has my email on his phone so that I can check it on a cruise and for myself but will attach mine to my daughters phone so she can check in at work. I get a discounted rate on the WIFI as part of the casino package.) I get the $50 discount on the excursions and its only one. But this is what the casino gave me. Never use NCL air. It is bait and switch. You will get awful times and if a plane is cancelled you are screwed. I have a long horror story about last Thanksgiving. Finally after 6 months and going back and forth from American Airlines and NCL the insurance paid half. Get a taxi to the pier. Be in control of your life, don't wait for the bus to fill up and stop at every ship etc.
  12. We bring an extensive first aid kit : Tylenol, Aleve, band aids, Pepto in liquid and chewables, Bonine for sea sickness, vitamin C, Aquaphor for dry lips, Antibiotic cream for cuts ( I once sliced open my toe on a metal door), Gly-oxide for sores in the mouth, Eye drops, Ayer Saline nose spray, the best organic cough medicine of all Chest-all, Chloraspectic throat lozengers, Benadryl for allergic reaction, Lotrimin for athletes foot, and Zrytec for a cold. Call me crazy but we've used them all at one time or another over 50+ cruises. And I bring a bar of Dove soap , my own Shampoo and Conditioner and skin cream.
  13. Yes last time I asked for a softer pillow and I got a half dozen each one lumpier than the next
  14. And many people also tip their butler and concierge depending on what you ask for and the service because they don’t share in the tip pool.
  15. Yes, there is a difference between promos and built in amenities.
  16. Be sure to use the sundeck. A server will come up for drink and lunch orders or you can put in your drink order at the Haven bar on your way up and they will follow you as soon as it’s ready. Amazing views and comfortable loungers and umbrellas
  17. DO NOT CANCEL. The Haven is amazing. The Food is amazing. You do not need fancier clothes. We just got off the NE/Canada Getaway and even though it was cold outside, many men wore shorts and T shirts to dinner in the Haven restaurant. We wear long pants and my husband usually wears a collared golf shirt or short sleeved Hawaiian type shirt to dinner but you are fine either way. We don't drink so never take the drink package ( don't need to pay the gratuities). I don't believe you get the extra perks when you get an upgrade. Sometimes the bartender just comped me a diet coke. I always tipped a buck or two. And we drink iced tea with meals.
  18. Bonine or non drowsy Dramamine worked great for my teen granddaughter who loves cruising but every once in a while needs a pill. Stock up just in case.
  19. There was room on the side for all theater shows.
  20. We were handed a form to fill out in the Haven waiting room while waiting to board. We filled it out immediately for Six ( not our cup of tea) Burn the Floor ( fabulous) and three comedy club times ( the comedy club was sold out for every show except the last one in the main theater. An hour after lunch on board we received a print out with everything we asked for.
  21. Our September 25 trip this year was too early but it was due to summer drought. It’s very hard to guess. The last time we did that date the colors were glorious. The later you go, the colder touring will be.
  22. The point is that NCL advertises that the service in the Haven is exceptional. We had two recent concierges on the Getaway and the Encore that went above and beyond. We were told when to come to the desk to be escorted without asking. They printed off my husbands crossword with a smile. Every thing was yes . We tipped generously.
  23. We always pick a Haven room in the Haven. The doors face a glass enclosed hallway that has direct access to the pool and are steps from the lounge, bar, restaurant.
  24. Do not do NCL air. My kids were sucked into the two for one. If something happens ( weather delay or cancels) you are a volleyball between NCL and the airline. No one takes responsibility. The flight was canceled and every other flight that they were offered was the next day, arriving after the cruise left. They were able to drive all night from Atlanta to Miami. Six months later they got half their money back through the insurance.
