  1. I don't think I've seen a plug, other than for a shaver, in a bathroom on any ship of any line. That makes sense to me, to not mix water and electricity. It has never even occurred to me to use electric hair care products in my bathroom at home.
  2. I suspect there is someone who can do needed repairs for officers and crew. Might a passenger be able to request a basic fix (buckle that comes off, etc.) while on a cruise?
  3. Did you know about the monkey before booking? If it were me, that would be reason to forfeit the tour. It's easy enough to walk away from the guys in port with baby monkeys on their shoulders, but having a monkey along on the tour....no thank you.
  4. And there is the answer to the OP's question. "Up to five or six ships" in port on most days. For anyone interested in seeing ships, it's easy viewing during arrival and departure, and an easy walk along the pier to see them up close and at ground level. What's not to like?
  5. Are you referring to the very front portion (where the bow access is) being closed to passengers? That would not be unusual. It's still possible, and very pleasant, to be able to walk the other 95% of promenade deck. And aft, if one is lucky, a crew door will open and all the aromas of the bakery will waft out.
  6. On any RC ship with a Bolero's lounge, there will be a Latin band playing virtually every night.
  7. Yes, Panama Canal is great for going in through the locks, then staying on the ship at anchor all day to watch the cargo ships, and perhaps an occasional passenger ship, enter the Canal and go by.
  8. I notice this is a new feature when booking a cruise directly with MSC. (We have always used our TA in the past.) Anybody have experience of this? Good way to book?
  9. And then there are oceanview cabins, our personal preference, usually priced higher than insides, but significantly lower than balconies.
  10. Thank you, all, but no to all of the above: Have not ever had covid, definitely no pregnancy, no stress.
  11. My hair has begun falling out in alarming quantities. No change in diet, meds, shampoo, hairbrush. Routine blood tests don't show anything. There are lots of recent posts on my news pages, but they are all ads, so I have not read any. Perhaps Big Brother knows I've been silently thinking about the subject. Related? This year I've met two women who have lovely, full hair, but seriously receding hairlines at the front. Beautiful, unblemished skin where there used to be hair. Any thoughts/remedies/cures?
  12. Knowing its history as a sugar train, we enjoyed the excursion.
  13. If the sugar train is still running tours, that's an interesting way to spend a few hours. I haven't seen it listed as a ship excursion recently, but it might be worth looking into.
  14. Schedules for both dinners and shows might be different once she is sailing in the Med. I'm sure you won't go hungry! And perhaps on a big day like Rome the shows will be less likely to be the main ones.
  15. We, too, are shipgeeks. We like being docked in Freeport, where we can see the ships in drydock there, as well as container/cargo ships that come and go, some with very interesting designs. Mr. S looks at the Nassau live webcam most days, to see the variety of ships porting there.
  16. Agreed, ours were at 7 and 9:15, to coordinate with the set dining times of 5:15 and 7:45.
  17. I just realized: Maybe I saw the other posts on the "other site's" Enchantment of the Seas group. If you use that site, it might be worth posting again there. At least we know that you were not the only one to have this happen.
  18. Yes, I searched some more, too, with no success. Odd, as they didn't contain what I would consider offensive/discriminatory/political content. Perhaps they will eventually find your post.
  19. Have a look at another recent post, "Queen Victoria What to Wear", in which the posters state that virtually all passengers are dressing up on all evenings.
  20. LoL, usually 8 to 18 nights per cruise for us, one regular suitcase each. Of course, WC is in a class by itself.
  21. I thought it was really curious that for Gender I could choose M - F - Prefer not to answer, but for Household Income, there was no such option, and it would not allow me to move on until I chose a figure.
  22. Yes, that agrees with one of my brochures. Lirica followed here shortly thereafter. Re our Melody cruise in 2002, some random observations. We had a standard OV cabin. It felt quite spacious, and nicely appointed. The brochure states that it is 185 square feet. Big bathroom with a tub. Set dinner time for us was 8:45, which we always attended. However, we had been in the habit of going to ship buffets for breakfast and lunch, and we continued to do so on Melody. The buffet was on pool deck, and was very limited: some rolls at breakfast, and small rolls with either cheese or salami, plus a pudding or cake, at lunch. One day DH didn't feel like having lunch, so I went to the dining room, and sat at a two-top. I discovered an extensive menu! After my meal, a head waiter came to me and asked why I didn't go to my usual large dinner table; apparently that was the expected practice. There was always lots of music and dancing, including officers dancing with passengers. Entertainment included a dance troupe from Spain, British dancers, and much more. A group of engineer crew Samoans put on a spectacular show. Ship capacity was 1,076, in 538 cabins. Eight decks.
  23. I hope you, and any others affected, will be able to pursue this successfully.
  24. This thread has got me thinking. Wet bathing suits, and sweaty workout undies, can be washed and then hung in the shower to drip. What other clothing would have to be washed during a cruise? Business shirts worn at the office or shop for one day usually need to go into the wash. On a ship, which is so much cleaner, even several wearings have never given us "ring around the cuff". Wet garments on hangers in the cabin? Dripping on the carpet and possibly bed? Does anyone do this at home?
  25. We recently had some time to kill on a grocery trip, and went to Wendy's for a coffee. Doors were locked. Doing drive-through only. In asking around, it appears that no fast food or economy restaurants currently have a dine in option. Dollar Tree is closing in the afternoon as they can't get evening staff. Dunkin' Donuts has a sign advertising $19/hour pay, and not getting takers.
