1. NCL have appointed Drew Madsen as the new head to replace Kevin Sheehan who apparently announced that after acquiring Oceania and Regent Seven Seas,he would not be head of all 3 and each would have individual heads,so presumably he plans to head up one of the smaller lines.Interesting, as he was a major driver for change at NCL.

Restaurant veteran is tapped for Norwegian Cruise Line presidency

I have just gone back and re-read the press release from Norwegian yesterday. What is says is that Drew Madsen becomes President and COO of Norwegian Cruise Line WHILE Kevin Sheehan becomes President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.

  2. chengkp75: I think synyc232 was asking Merrtime 123 if they could post a picture of The Pearl's Navigation Officer in case someone might know who she would be.

Merrtime123: I would suggest that your son write a letter to Norwegian's Corporate Office in Miami (7665 Corporate Center Drive, Miami, Florida 33126 giving them the details of your cruise, they will forward your letter to the ship's Captain. i have done it more than once and know it works.

  3. Sir, whoever you are, I deeply appreciate your service to Norwegian as a Chief Engineer. It takes very special people like yourself to are willing to give so much and miss so much for your career. Chief Engineer's are my very favorite staff members. As someone who is about to embark on her 21st Norwegian cruise, I have come to appreciate Chief Engineers. THANK YOU

  4. Is the Houston terminal in the same place as NCL's previous locations? If so, are there any hotels close by for pre-cruise lodging? I seem to remember there were not any hotels close by when we sailed out of Houston in 2000.

The Jewel in docking in Baytown on north Galveston Bay. According to the information, I have found, Baytown has a popluation of just under 72,000. I would assume there are lots of hotels and restaurants.

  5. Yes this does help very much - thanks. It definitely was Jean Michel Dhelin that was on the Sky, now just have to figure which HD was on the Epic.

Would you be thinking about an Assistant Hotel Director on The Epic? I know that Richard Janicki may have been the Assistant in your time frame.

  6. Is there an active "meet & mingle" group for 11/22/14 departure of NCL Gateway? Please advise,

    Raleighres

Yes, there is a Roll Call for your cruise. Go to the Roll Call Section, scroll down the list to the Getaway and click to open. Scroll down until you find it.

Have a great cruise. The Getaway is a wonderful ship with a great staff.

  7. I miss having a "safe place" to ask my really stupid questions, and since we haven't cruised in several years, and never on the Jewel I have a bunch of stupid questions.

I have not been on The Jewel in awhile, but I am more than happy to answer questions, if I know the answers, so ask away.

  8. I always go either the first or second cruise of the season before Memorial Day for several reasons: (1) the price sometimes is less, (2) school is not yet out in a lot of places so not as many families as there would be later, (3) the snow and the glaciers are still very fresh and pristine. It is a wonderful cruise. I am looking at booking The Jewel out of Seattle in late May.

  9.
We did speak with the Assistant Maître d' as we were leaving. She merely offered an explanation that my food must have cooked faster and needed to wait for Bryan's (nevermind the fact that he ordered the same thing that I did and his was also waiting on the shelf next to mine). She also explained that the assistant waiter must have been busy helping another server. Talking with her wasn't very enlightening as to what actually happened and ensuring that it wouldn't happen again.
Go talk with either the Restaurant Manager Deepak Gonsalves or the Food and Beverage Director Martin Ivanov. I had a food issue on my last Getaway cruise and talked with them a couple of days later. Both are very nice gentlemen.
  10. From the discussion on this thread, I must be in the minority because Norwegian always books my hotel for me in any port (20 cruises and counting). Since I travel alone it is just so much easier for me. I also purchase the transfers from the hotel to the ship and the ship to the airport.

  11. Unless things change quickly because of hurricane damage the Cabo sustain last week, ships are not going to be allowed to anchor. As of yesterday some parts of Cabo still have no power. The Port area, resort hotels and the airport were badly damage. Unfortunately there is another storm system heading in that direction right now according to the Weather Channel's website.
