  1. I agree that Bermuda would have been a better move.

We are very familiar with cruising from Baltimore. [Celebrity Mercury, Carnival Pride, and RCL Enchantment and Grandeur] For a Thursday turn-around day the Grandeur comes into the bay around 10 ish the previous night.

One of my favorite sights on a cruise to/from Baltimore is being in the middle of the entrance to the bay and seeing the lights of the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel on both sides of me. So, I remember the timing. It is also common to speed up some to get into the bay sooner if there is a storm. We have sailed from Baltimore many times and had this happen.

The forecast for tonight is 10-15 mph winds in Virginia Beach and around 24 mph tomorrow.

I'm on this upcoming cruise too. We have sailed out of Baltimore lots of times too. Anyway, I too, feel like they should have done their original itinerary of Bermuda. Then, they wouldn't be in such a predicament. But, at the time, I think they were expecting Flo to go towards Bermuda. Now, they are stuck in Florida and have to travel past Flo to get home. Now, it seems like Flo will be churning off shore for most of the weekend. How will the Grandeur get around it safely?

We are supposed to get an update around 7pm. We were to get one yesterday at the same time, but, the update told us there would be an update today.... We could cancel and get our money back, but, my husband wants to wait to see what happens. You have to put up with something like this happening when you book during hurricane season, but, it is still a disappointment. At least we have been to all the ports numerous times, but, I just love this itinerary.

I am packed and just waiting to see where we are going or if the trip is cancelled. I have a feeling that if we don't leave till Monday, we will be going to Bermuda for a day.

  2. Oops sorry, I just assumed the Grandeur was scheduled for Bermuda on the 13th.

No, not Bermuda. We are scheduled for Canada/New England. Or should I say "were" scheduled. I hope we find out what is going on by Tuesday. I have to cancel a hotel we have scheduled to go to on Wednesday in Baltimore.

  3. It is a US law called the Passenger Vessel Services Act.

It is meant to protect US flagged passenger vessels. Among other provisions, it prohibits foreign flagged passenger vessels (which applies to virtually all cruise ships) from starting and ending a cruise at two different US ports without visiting a distant foreign port.

Isn't there a fine associated with that or did they change that? I know if someone leaves the ship on their own there is or was a fine.

  4. I personally think that the Grandeur will stay put in Nassau till it is clear to sail north. If that is the case and it gets back to Baltimore a couple days late, then the cruise on the 13th will be shortened and maybe only go to a couple of the original ports. I am on this upcoming cruise too and I am sure they will do what ever is best for the ship and passengers. However, the storm is expected to linger after coming ashore and it looks like the weather for the itinerary will be mostly rain. I've been to all these ports many times, but always look forward to visiting again. Time will tell what will happen. Maybe we will go south, who knows. I am not going to finish my packing until I know for sure what is going on and where we will be going or they cancel it altogether.

  5. I had a B2B with the same cabin. Went to the meeting place for the B2Bers to receive our new sea pass cards. Left our cabin as is. Found out we were upgraded to another cabin. Had to get off the ship and couldn’t get right back on because of a Coast Guard inspection. Didn’t get back on the ship until around 11:30, then had to go to the B2B luncheon. Got back to our first cabin at 1:15 and cabins opened at 1:30 for new guests. We had 15 min to gather up our belongings and move to the new cabin. It was our first upgrade in about 40 cruises, but, wasn’t real happy it was done this way....only went from an inside to ocean view. Had it been a balcony or suite, I would have been much happier. We did everything ourselves. Crew member stood outside the cabin with the cart for our belongings. They did move that to the new cabin though.

  6. Thanks for the replies, only availability of OV is decks 2 & 3. I'm considering OVs near the aft elevator or midway between the two elevator banks. Trying to decide if the additional cost of $140 is worth it, or if we should stay with the inside cabin, our only other cruise was a balcony on the Oasis.

I have called for a booking and sometimes they have cabins open that are not on the website. I'd try that, maybe you could get one on another deck. Worth a try.

  7. We sailed the Grandeur, for the first time, in December 2016. Turns out it was her 20th anniversary cruise as she was commissioned in December 1996. They had a wonderful party and the cruise was filled with a overly friendly crew, great service and we had a ball. We since have sailed her again this past February and are looking to sailing her again next year. A great 'older' ship but with a lot of class.

    Cheers

We were on that cruise too. Loved the celebration for Cyrus, a super nice crew member that worked in the Windjammer and MDR. He worked on the Grandeur from day one. Was a great 20th Anniversary celebration too.

  8. In 2005, DH & I were on a Celebrity cruise to Bermuda. my wonderful Mother in law had paid for her entire family to cruise together.

Grandeur was also docked there and DH & I walked over to have a closer look at her. We were amazed at how lovely and big she was. We wondered if we would EVER ask on a ship like her!

Now we are Diamond+, have been on the Lady G 3 times and have upcoming cruises booked on Oasis and Harmony. Just yesterday we were planning our reservations for Oasis & reminiscing about our first impressions of Grandeur all those years ago.

Who else has fond memories of Grandeur, either from her early years or more recent?

Lots of great memories. We spent our 50th Anniversary on the Grandeur. We’ve been on her about 17 times now (lost count) and have 3 more booked this year, 2 next year, so far and 1 in 2020. We live about 1 1/2 hrs away from Baltimore and just love that ship and crew. Have a lot of friends we cruise with too.

  9. Unfortunately, this is about the third or fourth thread where I've responded about this device. Even though "Cruise On" makes the statement that the device is not surge protected, if you look at the photos of the back of the device, it clearly says "VPR (L-N) 800 volts". VPR (Voltage Protection Rating) is a measure of surge protection. Another CC poster who mentioned this device, when I told them about this VPR, they contacted "Cruise On", who said "the ad copy is incorrect, and will be corrected", but that was weeks ago, and the picture of the device still shows VPR on the back. I would not recommend using this on a ship.

Thanks...I will cancel my order. Guess I will just take the small charger that comes with my devices. I hope they are OK. I didn't read the other thread that you posted on about this. Sorry for the repeat.

  10. That rumor has been going around for years. Time will tell.....

I'll be on the Grandeur next month. I guess I will find out. There is always an overflow for the Concierge Lounge and Diamond Lounges. Don't remember a time when there wasn't. Maybe it depends on the time of year or the number of D and D+. I would be happy with just the Diamond Lounge for D+ in the evening, but, will miss going to the Concierge Lounge during the day. Nice views from there. I guess I will just sit out in the Viking Crown Lounge for my views, but will miss the breakfast items and cookies during the day.

  11. Had our first aft cabin on our cruise to Alaska. Awesome views! Just enjoyed the ABC islands on Navigator in the aft corner porthole cabin 7388. Going on the Grandeur to Bermuda in corner wrap junior suite 7350. Taking my girlfriend on her first cruise in an extended aft balcony on Carnival. I book them when I can get them. Love the sounds and the view. So relaxing.

On the Grandeur, the corner aft JS is either 7150 or 7650. We were in 7150. Both corner aft JS on deck 7 have a walk in closet. It was a great cabin.

    Have a great cruise!

  12. I always book my internet before the cruise, then use my D+ discount for a second device once on board for the 2 days.

I was told once too, that you can get the 20% discount off, once you are on board. No way....I'm glad I found out here on the boards before we went on the cruise. I just got internet for 2 cruises for $12.59 per day. I had one booked at $14.59 a day, then cancelled it and re-booked it and got my money back on the one I cancelled. I have paid $10.59 already when they had a sale, but don't think they have it at that price anymore.

  13. I have in my profile that the beds are to be separated. When I sailed with my husband, they never were, even with my profile info. Last month on Allure, I was sailing with my son in my cabin. Our beds were put together.

I found that kind of funny as he is 25 years younger than I am and if Royal Caribbean thought we were a couple, I'd sure have to be robbing the cradle. My daughter-in-law and my granddaughter were in the cabin next to us and their beds were separated.

I asked our cabin steward and he explained that he was trained if the cabin had a man and a woman, the beds should be together and if two of the same sex, the beds should be separated. I feel badly every time I have to have the steward change the bed around especially on embarkation day, but no way am I sleeping with my adult son.

When my husband and I first started cruising, back in the 1990’s, the beds were always separated, so we asked to have them together. My husband went on a cruise with a male friend one time, got to the cabin, the beds were together....go figure. Lol

Now beds are always together and we have our beds separated, because it gives us more room in our cabin to walk around. I have it listed on our preferences to separate the beds, but they are always together. It only takes a short time for the cabin attendant to separate them, but, I still feel bad asking them to do so.

  14. We had a balcony guarantee last December. It took a long time to get an assigned cabin and it too, said balcony cabins were sold out. We finally got our assignment and they assigned us a handicapped accessible balcony cabin. It was huge, with a huge bathroom too. I didn’t request the accessible cabin and knew they could take it away if someone requested it. No one requested it and we thoroughly enjoyed all the room. We had a lot of friends on the cruise with us, so it was nice to have some get togethers in our cabin.

You will get your assignment eventually, but, I know it’s tough waiting for it. Good luck. You can always hope for a visit from the upgrade fairy too!

  15. We have cruised on the Grandeur 17 times and have 6 more cruises booked on her. Needless to say, she’s our favorite ship. I love the smaller ships without all the bells and whistles. I like that you can see the ocean from almost every venue and love the outside Promenade deck on 5. I spend my afternoons sitting there, out of the sun.

We have cruised mostly inside cabins, but, upgrade when the price is right. Splurged for our 50th Anniversary and booked a corner aft JS on deck 7 ( with a walk in closet). It was great. Last December, we booked a balcony guarantee and was assigned an accessible balcony.....best cabin ever. It was huge and had a huge bathroom. I am happy with any cabin, as long as I’m on the ship! I’m easy to please......
