  1. We will be on the Grandeur for the “lucky” 13th time this Saturday. Love everything about her. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary 2 yrs ago on the Grandeur and will be celebrating our 52nd this December. We’ve done the first cruise in December every year for several years. Love cruising at that time with all the Christmas decorations. We try to cruise 3-4 times a year and the Grandeur is our choice of ships. Although we only live about 2 hrs away makes it an easy choice. Crew is fantastic and feels like family. You will not be sorry for booking this ship!

  2. Explorer

was our very first cruise, we saw some children but we were like you more put off by the adults, fighting over contests(almost fisty cuffs) pushing into the already stuffed elevators, or worse not getting people off before getting on. that was a huge issue for me with a fractured ankle and unable to use stairs tho I tried. ( we were so new we didn't know about insurance and the cruise was a surprise for xmas with going in a month) then there was the dude on the deck screaming into his phone nightly what a "f---ng" good time he was having.

On one of our cruises, we had some obnoxious guy, claiming he was a port authority worker and he acted like he owned the place. Showing some kind of badge, as if he could arrest someone. He was Diamond and he would reserve a whole section of the area used for the Diamond cocktail hours. He stated he had more friends then anybody else and you had to be invited to sit in his area. The more he drank, the more obnoxious he got. One evening our group decided to sit in “his” area. He was none too happy, but, he cooled it after we said those seats were not reserved and we refused to leave and stayed there. The Concierge had a talk with him and he was pretty quiet the rest of the cruise. He also didn’t drink as much. Sometimes you just have to stand up to a bully.

  3. We cruised the Explorer every year while it was in Bayonne. We always cruised the early part of December. We had more trouble with a large group of adults that were on the cruise at the same time every year. They were very rude, butting in front of people wherever there was a line forming. Especially at the elevators and Windjammer. They were far worse than kids. I think I could handle kids more than adults, who should know better.

  4. I booked an Allure cruise for this december earlier this week. When Booking the room I booked a balcony guarantee room, my room assignment said Neighborhood Balcony guarantee or something along those lines. Now when checking my room type says: Ocean view accessible guarantee. Has anyone had any experience with the room type changing? Just wondering if it will magically be fixed or if I need to call Royal and ask questions? The other issue is, I never got an email confirmation when booking the cruise, so I don't have proof of what I booked :( We also have 3 of us in the room counting my three year old son. Could that be why royal changed this on me?

    Thanks!

Happened to me just yesterday. Did go back to gty balcony though. I did call to make sure it will be a balcony, they said yes. Still waiting for my assignment. It’s been three days now and it shows balconies all booked up.

  5. The cruises we take require a deposit of $450 pp. That's a lot of money to put down for them to keep for over a year, which is the way we book. We book early, as soon as the itineraries come out and we usually book 12 night cruises. It was nice having the reduced deposit or Future Cruise Certificate. We book a couple cruises at a time sometimes. The high deposit can add up. Not that we can't afford it, but it does make it better to have the reduced deposit. Just my opinion. We will probably never book on board again. We will just wait until we see one we like and book it at that time. I don't like the non-refundable deposit either. Refundable deposit is more expensive, over a hundred $'s or more pp. Just another money making scheme for Royal. I hope they eventually change it back. It's not like they won't get the full price when final payment is due.

  6. Sometimes you can find great deals, but they are few and far between anymore. One year we booked 7 cruises, 6 of them on the Grandeur, because the prices were so low. We usually only do 3 or 4 a year. The year we booked the 7 cruises, we got an inside cabin on an 11 night Member's cruise on the Explorer for $399 per person. Best...deal....ever! That won't happen again. Loved the Member's cruise too. So many free things to do and gifts almost daily.

I got a good deal yesterday on the Grandeur. There was a sale and I got a Balcony GTY cabin for only $4 more than the OV cabin we had, plus an extra $50 OBC . The deals are out there, you just have to keep watching and checking for them. Sometimes they only last a couple hours.

  7. I’m waiting now for a gty cabin assignment for our October 28th cruise. I upgraded from an ocean view to a gty balcony for only $4 more and an extra $50 OBC. I really don’t care where it is, just hoping it isn’t an adjoining cabin, but for the $4 extra, I’ll settle for it. Might be able to switch cabins if there are any of the same category available. But, this close to the cruise, I really doubt it. That sale yesterday only lasted several hours. The price has doubled since.

  8. I know you can’t take them off with you. I was on a cruise in 2005, without my husband and he had arranged to have flowers given to me by the CD during an interview which I was included in. Long story.....anyway, the interview happened to be the next to the last day of the cruise. It was a dozen beautiful red roses [emoji257]. Well, I was told I couldn’t take them off the ship. So upset. I ended up giving them to the female CD, so I hope she enjoyed them.....it was Ashley Kerr. She was really great. Doesn’t work for Royal anymore. They did give me a tape of the interview to take home, so the flowers will live forever.

  9.

Well we are back to a sea day again today and the Solarium is pretty crowded. Waters are rough and lots of rocking with warnings from the captain that it'll likely get worse tonight. I've taken my seasick meds, have on my bands and a cup of ginger ale - trying to get ahead of it. Here we go!

Be prepared to feel the "motion of the ocean" for several days after you are home. When the seas have been rough, after I get home, I can be sitting down or standing still and all of a sudden, I feel like I am on the ship with a little rocking feeling. It goes away after a couple days. I guess they call it getting your "land legs" after having "sea legs" for days....lol

Sorry your cruise is ending in a couple days. Just book another cruise, so you have something to look forward to.

I hope you continue to cruise in years to come. Our first cruise got us hooked and we have over 40 cruises under our belts. We are retired, so can go whenever we can find a good deal. We do mostly inside cabins to save money so we can cruise more often. We do get other cabins for special occasions. I will be on the Grandeur on Oct. 28th. Can't wait.

You picked a great ship for your first cruise. Glad you enjoyed it. Safe travels home. Really enjoyed your live report. Thanks for taking the time from you cruise to do so.

  10. Do you book Giovanni's pre cruise or wait until you board and use your BOGO coupon?

I book it as soon as I get on the ship and let them know it will be a BOGO. Never a problem getting a time we are satisfied with.....I don't like eating late and I've never seen Giovanni's really crowded, at least not the first night. We also like to get in touch with the MDR to let them know we won't be there for that night (but, that is not necessary). Just like to be courteous.

  11. Have a "Grand" time on the "Grand"eur......first cruises are normally the best and will have the best memories, good and bad (let's hope all good)....Hope you have fantastic weather and lots of fun. You picked a great ship and port for your first cruise experience. We have been on the Grandeur over 12 times and are looking forward to our cruise Oct. 28th.

Have a great cruise.....I'll be following along!

  12. Thank you for your answer. I did not think she would get the Diamond Status but I though I would ask. Now that you say "residing at the same address", I do remember that part of the equation. We are both looking forward to this cruise and hoping for some fall color as a special treat.

You will have your 3 drinks using your sea pass card, so you can enjoy a drink at another venue that serves alcohol, during the cocktail hours only.

    My condolences for your loss.

Enjoy your cruise with your cousin. You picked a great itinerary. My favorite.

  13. $60.00 for two cartons of Marlboro Menthol onboard Radiance. Much cheaper than the ports while in Alaska.

Not sure where you're cruising, but the ports in the Caribbean are usually much cheaper than on the ship.

    Karen

Just make sure if you buy them in the Caribbean, they are made in the USA. There are cheaper ones, but they are made in a foreign country and we were told that they are lousy. I don't smoke, so wouldn't know, but we were told by people that bought the cheap cigarettes and were sorry they did. Buy them on board, they are either cheaper or not much more than buying them in a Caribbean port. Either way, buy American.....
