  1. We had that happen quite often on the Grandeur, by some man. He was eventually kicked off the ship and maybe even the cruise line. Maybe he’s back again. The one I’m talking about, mainly sailed on the Grandeur and Explorer, while it was in NJ. I heard they are getting tougher on the requirements of comfort animals. Does anyone know if they charge extra for bringing on a service or comfort animal?

  2. My only concern is that most of the cruises to the Bahamas from Bayonne or Baltimore, the ship usually stays late in the evening when ported in Nassau. I would be more afraid of mosquitoes at night then during the day.

Only you can decide whether to risk it or not. I’d take your Drs. advice on what to do.

    Congratulations on the pregnancy.....

  3. When I first started cruising years ago, I went on a couple cruises with women friends. This was on the Nordic Empress, which is now Empress of the Seas. We always had 4 adult women in an inside cabin. We had no problems at all and those cabins were really small. We had no problems with the use of the bathroom either. Two women took showers at night and 2 in the morning. We weren’t in the cabin that much anyway. Would do it again, if that was the only way I could cruise......

  4. On my December 9th cruise a couple weeks ago, I booked a balcony GTY cabin. About a couple weeks before the cruise, they happened to assign me an accessible cabin. Now, if someone had requested that cabin after they assigned it to me, they could have moved us, which would have been fine with me. I didn’t need an accessible cabin. But, we were never reassigned, so we stayed in the accessible cabin. Needless to say, I loved the extra space in the cabin, bathroom and balcony. I think if they can change your gty cabin, you should be able to, too. I’ve changed a gty cabin before, but we very seldom book them. This time I only had to pay $4 more for the balcony gty over my original ocean view. Couldn’t pass that up. Got an extra $50 OBC too. All after final payment!

  5. I book and always check for price drops. I don’t feel negative about it. I’m delighted when I find a price drop, especially when it drops and I can book a higher grade cabin for a small price increase. Just went from an oceanview to a balcony gty for just $4 total. Plus, got an extra $50 OBC. I was very happy......and I always enjoy my cruises.

  6. On our October 28th departure from Baltimore on the Grandeur, we had dinner at Giovanni’s the first night. In addition to the basic charge, they added both the 18% gratuity and Maryland SALES TAX to the bill. This is the first time they added the sales tax to a Grandeur departure from Baltimore.

They have charged tax the past couple times we were on. Ever since they started closing the shops and casino as long as we were in the Chesapeake Bay. That was last year around this time. Also if you buy one of the drink packages while on board the first night. They will charge tax. It's best to wait until the 2nd day of the cruise.

You can thank Maryland or Virginia or both for the addition of the tax. I heard that Carnival pays the fine instead of charging the tax when they leave Baltimore. Not sure if that is true.

  7. Not true you still get your benefit. Just use it another device. I just did this.

I pre-booked and did not get the benefit on a recent TA because I didn't need it -- I already had the unlimited internet package and could switch between 2-3 devices. I just did this, too. I tried to go on line to get the free 24 hour so my wife could use it, but was denied.

Your wife can use it, but, you have to sign on with your information. I just did that 2 weeks ago. It’s just like using your free internet on a second device, your wife’s device. You don’t lose your benefit just because you booked the package on line. If you did, that was wrong.

  8. Sorry for your Giovanni’s experience on the Allure. We have never had a bad meal at Giovanni’s Table. Earlier this month, we completed a 12 day cruise on the Grandeur. Two of the nights we had dinner in Giovanni’s. Both meals were outstanding and our waiter was excellent. We were pleased with the selection. We are looking forward to our next cruise, where we will most definitely go to Giovanni’s.

We ate in Giovanni’s on the Grandeur on that cruise too. Loved it. Will be doing it again in a little over 2 weeks. Guess it depends on the ship and food is very subjective anyway.....

  9. Was there no table number on your Sea Pass card?

We’ve had that happen once. I went to the dining room right away as soon as I noticed that there was no table # on my sea pass. The person in charge checked on it and said it was because we had booked the cruise late. I told him to check the date...it was the year before, not the year of the cruise. He apologized and told us to pick any table we wanted.

  10. I once saw a women standing at the dock, shopping bags in hand, as the ship was moving away from the pier. They had her come out to the ship on a small boat and had to get on the ship like the pilot does. Don’t know how much that cost her. This is why we always book excursions with the cruise line. We were late getting back to the ship twice. Both times coming back to Boston from Salem. Almost an hour late each time, due to traffic. The ship waited for us since we were on a ship excursion.

  11. Last time I checked, D+ was still welcomed into CL.

Yes, they are on the Grandeur. I just said that if we lose that privilege, it will not upset me. I like to use the Concierge Lounge during the day on the Grandeur for the views, but if they no longer allow D+ in the lounge, I will just sit in the Viking Crown Lounge....same views.

    Gwen :D

  12. The Diamond Lounge is for Diamond Plus members. Or are you implying that you don't want to mingle with Diamond members?

My experience is that you get the same service and benefits at both lounges. Other than the name of it....no difference. I use both lounges, but, if D+ is no longer allowed in the Concierge lounge...no problem at all. Actually, I prefer the D lounge for our evening cocktails. I’m talking about the Grandeur, which is the ship we cruise on 99% of the time.
