  1. For a Jaguar or Hundai rice cooker? 🤔
  2. I’m flying to Japan in October along with my Japanese significant other. Having grown up in Japan, he’s going to buy a rice cooker and pay the charge for excess luggage on the airline to bring back. He claims GOOD rice cookers are much cheaper in Japan than you can order on Amazon. He knows his stuff when it comes to rice and rice cookers. And, as you can surmise, he’s not related in any way to Uncle Ben.
  3. Our personal experience on Edge was that the host(s) would routinely seat us with the same team. It definitely didn’t feel like each night was the “first day of school” repeatedly.
  4. After sailing E-Class I came to the conclusion stressing about the lack of reservations is a waste of time and undue anxiety. Just my own personal experience... After trying all four, we gravitated to Tuscan solely because it suited our taste in decor! As mentioned in another post, you can arrange for anything served in any of the four dining rooms. Again, speaking from personal experience. Like the old stage play, “much ado about nothing”!
  5. …just another by-product of global warming.
  6. Back in the early 90’s I worked part-time in an airline call center. The one thing that stuck with me throughout the training course (and still today) was the instructor drilling into us to “create a sense of urgency” with the caller.
  7. Mods generally only merge IF brought to their attention by the “report a post” feature. At least that’s been my experience over the years here… I prefer all posts on a subject such as this one on a single thread, rather than having to comb through several to get all the tidbits of info and experiences. BUT, that’s the nature of the beast in the wonderful world of message boards!
  8. What does Artificial Intelligence have to do with a booze sale? 🤔
  9. Read post #29. We, too, have rented a car and driven down the coast when docked in Astoria. Seaside and Canon Beach are lovely towns on the mighty, rugged Pacific Coast. Lots of great lunch spots to enjoy.
  10. The owners of private railroad cars charter them out to interested parties/groups. The persons/groups chartering have carte blanche to make the trips private or public. The trip I took was only a 36-hour segment of an 8-day Chicago-West Coast-Chicago trip. Here’s a couple websites to explore what’s out there… https://www.aaprco.com/ https://www.luxurytrainclub.com/ I’m sure there are others, but that’ll get you started. And don’t forget Google is your best friend! 😉 EZ does it there, Chef Boyardee. I mortgaged my condo to take the trip, so send me promo codes for discounts at The Chez. And put me down for imitation crab, not lobster….
  11. Yes, Denver Union Station. The city has done an amazing job transforming the building into a combo retail/restaurant/transit/rail facility. I was able to take their excellent light rail system direct from the airport to Union Station. In addition, the luxury railroad-themed Crawford Hotel occupies the space and was an enjoyable, as well as convenient, experience.
  12. Life was not meant to cruise solely on the high seas, but also by land and rail… (enter @rafinmd) I was fortunate to travel from Denver-Oakland this week aboard 3 privately-owned railroad cars tacked on the rear of Amtrak’s California Zephyr, complete with our own chef and service staff. A beautiful trip through the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevadas.
  13. The massive Sierra snowmelt is in full swing along the Truckee River through downtown Reno, Nv. IMG_0303.mov
  14. …just be careful not to put all your eggs in one basket! Twice, we were excited to discover a certain speaker would be lecturing on our sailing. And twice that speaker ended up being cancelled. Thankfully, we selected the sailings for the itinerary, but it was a good reminder not to book a cruise solely for one speaker. With that said, I understand your conundrum and hope info will be available soon. 👍
  15. I flew into FAY last year. Much to the chagrin on my friends in Pinehurst, whose “preferred” airport is RDU (even though FAY is closer). Flight landed in FAY on time, without incident, and was the only plane on the ground at the terminal. Waited one hour at baggage claim for Jethro bagging groceries at the Piggly Wiggly to come fix the conveyor belt.
  16. A highly debatable subject. But friendlier than "will NC measure up to OC"...
  17. Same here. But I’m comforted to know I’m a few years junior to @KenzSailing after entering his data into “Math for Dummies”.
  18. Anyone here make it to Spokane in ‘74?
  19. I definitely remember A-E tickets for my high school grad night at Disneyland! And the requirement we wear jackets and ties. That was BEFORE the term “Black Tie Optional” was even a term! The only memory of my Aunt taking me when I was 5, was the story she told about my seeing Catholic nuns for the first time. According to her, I said “Oh, Auntie, look at all those witches…”.
  20. My Faunt in Anaheim was almost as fun as you are, Funcle. She took me for my first time to Disneyland when I was 5 (looooong before California Adventure). Had there been Cars Land, I probably would’ve spent the entire day there, too! Hope your nephews appreciate their Funcle as much as I did my Faunt.
  21. We flew SFO-AMS last year, skipped the nap upon arrival at the hotel, walked around, had some dinner, then crashed around 9:00pm. We felt it was worth it to stay up and “hold out” until 9pm. Woke up next morning after a really good sleep and our body clocks were fine from that moment on.
  22. Suggest you post the same question in the Cruise Air forum. You’ll reach a wider audience, as well as some seasoned, experienced fliers who can expound for you.
  23. Whenever I see a Facebook ad for new Crystal, there’s always lots of nasty comments about “never again” by people who lost money. I don’t blame them, but it seems to be a “guilt by association” thing because of the fact Abercrombie & Fitch bought not only the ships, but the Crystal name. People are holding the new owners accountable, and that sounds exactly what your TA is doing as well. Kudos to you for following through. Social media has its drawbacks. With the advent of FB, suddenly everyone has a voice and is a self-appointed expert on any subject! 🤦
