  1. This trial program is only on one or two ships. The stateroom stewards will just leave the slip and pick it up. They aren't negotiating with you.

When this was first introduced a number of people reported on here that room stewards tried to steer people toward once a day.

In any case time will tell but I am thinking that this is a way to have room stewards service more cabins and reduce head count.

  2. We will be cruising next month for the firs time under this new policy.

The skeptic in me thinks the room steward will discourage us from asking for service morning and night but that is what we have always gotten and come to expect and that is what we will ask for.

  3. Thanks! And FYI - it is so worth hanging on to your points until you reach 100,000. At that point you get 1.5% off vs. 1%.

After I book, my cruise will cost us about $100! Yeah baby!!

We used to use the Carnival for all purchases but since Sams introduced its card with 3% travel and 5% gas it stays in our pockets.

  4. This is why I'm looking forward to it. My 4 kids would enjoy watching and (hopefully) one of them would get picked to play. It's nice that it's something for the kids versus a show that they wouldn't enjoy

Very true but unless the cruise is during the summer small percentage of passengers will be young kids.

Great for afternoon entertainment but IMHO unsuitable for audience primarily made up of adults.

  5. Two weeks ago on the Ruby Princess saw a TA we liked for 2016.

Now that they have a sale the cabin price is up over $ 400 pp and they give back 150.

Not exactly a sale in my book. Will see what happens when this "sale" is over.

  6. You're confusing 2 different things

If you go to a table game and convert on board account to chips,,,, 3%

If you go to a slot machine, put $200 in your "slot bank" from your on board account,,,, play a couple of pulls,,,, close out your "slot bank",,,, then go cash out at the casino guest services,,,, no 3%

and No, OBC is NOT your money. It is nothing more than a credit to your account that you have access to.

My wifes body is not mine,, she just may or may not give me access to it. :D

Thanks for showing me the distinction. The thing to do than is get money out of slot machine, walk over to casino guest services and than get the chips I want and play a table game.

However since most of the obc comes as a credit via a Carnival M/C it is really mine. Still second guessing myself for doing it this way but that is another story.

  7. My only gripe with Carnival is the entertainment. Has been a disaster for years. I keep telling myself that I should accept it because if I want better entertainment I will need to kick out another $20+/night per person. When I am ready to do that I will go to RCCL or NCL.

We have now been on two Princess cruises of 14 and recently 15 days.

Entertainment surprisingly enough was better on Carnival.

  8. Let's assume that you have $205 that you know you want to "clear out". Just find a friendly looking slot machine. Load $200 off your "Sign-n-Sail" card. Pull off a dollar or two, then cash out, back to your card. Take your "Sign-n-Sail" card to the cashier in the casino, and ask for a cash out. You'll get the $195 or so, or you might even have hit a few bucks on those couple of pulls. It's always worked for me, even when the balance was NOT refundable. ;)

    "SKY"

So they will charge me 3% for doing this even though it is in effect my own money? Doesnt seem right.

  9. For an upcoming cruise we will have much more in obc than we can spend. Balance should be refundable as it is thru the Carnival M/C.

Believe we will receive a check in the mail for outstanding balance.

That is ok but if we wish to use some of it in the casino will they charge us the 3% they have in the past to to convert of obc to chips?

  10. The Hasbro show is the most boring thing at sea. Unless you or your child is picked to play, that makes it way more interesting. We skipped it after watching about 5 minutes of it.

    Not interested.

If one of JH's beards ever tried to take attendance at one of these evening shows would know that their passengers are voting with their feet to miss it.

Than again they might tell us down the road that production shows are not of interest to todays passengers so better to have a smaller lounge and room for more guests.

  11. Actually, it's no where near as entertaining as it sounds. I was going to say it's pretty awful. But in fairness, little kids probably enjoy it. But not adults.

And this coming from someone who has always been a fan of board games.

Sad and pathetic it is still offered as the only evening entertainment on many ships including the Glory in October.

If we were 10 would be a lot of fun but for adults? As far as I can tell these games have no skill involved at all.

Once upon a time they offered us professional entertainment and now they have sunk rather low.

Luckily for us the Glory had a super PBE.

  12. Hi

Every cruise I have taken has had some form of classical music in the atrium

anything from a single violin player to a string quartet,

add to this a number of short shows from performers doing main acts

    at other venues.

However noticeable change in past few years, more passenger or crew lead events,

less selection of acts, quality of acts has dropped before you would have a

must see act the rest being OK, now the must see act might be for one night

    only,

    yours Shogun

The problem with the atrium is very limited seating and lots of talking making it hard to hear performers.

We are shifting away from Carnival in the Caribbean to see the world and like Princess's food and service very much and was hoping for more upscale entertainment at a comfortable venue.

  13. Ever you ever tried Beef cheeks? It's excellent!!

No I havent actually. However reading the menu last week on Ruby and talking to a number of people who dined there not a place for us.

People have said portions are very small and in a table for 8 not much to go around for each dish.

BTW chefs table on Carnival was $ 75 earlier this year and food and presentation was excellent.
