Are World Cruise "Segment" Guests Second-Class Citizens?
Victoria2 replied to JimDee363636's topic in Cunard Line
Let's face it 3rdGenCunarder, snobbery in connection with Cunard is a misconception some have about the line however long the cruise. I have sailed many. many times on Cunard, from two weekers to seven weekers and at what one might consider quite a high level and I have never come across any elitism. The odd bad mannered guest, sure and often beautifully dressed guests who are probably sipping cocktails, but that can happen on a shortie as much as a Worldie. In fact, you're likely to see worldie passengers dressed down more than on a trad two weeker. They are at home. Sure, scrub up for occasions but also, dress down when the need to go casual occurs. The Lido was a often a popular dining venue for those who wanted casual. Rather like hot dog and fries on a Gala evening, Too much of a good thing can be boring and the need to tone it down can be a natural reaction when onboard for nearly four months. -
Have you sailed with Annie?

You can at night time in some far flung areas of the world, I'm thinking KL/S'pore/Sri Lanka. Virtually impossible to sleep in a room without air-con unless used to it and we never got used to high humidity for sleeping. Air-con is a must for weedie folk like us!

If you read #201, you will find I said 'the hardware hasn't changed' and I have acknowledged that many times when pointing our many of the issues you highlight.

Are World Cruise "Segment" Guests Second-Class Citizens?

Correct, nah! Just those who are happy with the company of fellow travellers, inside/outside suite or lifeboat who are in it for the long haul. Edit far away from designer wear, many lovely more elderly passengers could often be found in slippers and cardies, knitting and chatting of an evening as they would at home as QV WAS their home for over three months. I got to know some lovely folk over the years although I left my slippers at home as I don't possess any. 🙂 -

It's not the staff whom some are concerned about from my experience. It's the passengers. Worldies know who are part of their 'clan' as they have exclusive events and they get to know exactly who is a worldie and therefore who is a segmenteer and there are definitely some worldies who keep themselves to themselves which is absolutely fine. As we segmenteered on QV every year, we got to know some of the regulars on the world cruises and dining on a table of worldies certainly helped to make our holidays. We were made very welcome from our first WC to our last in '19. It's a great way of spending six or seven weeks at sea. Go for it JimDee363636 🙂 -

I have heard this said quite a few times. All I can say is pre Covid, we used to do two or three World cruise segments a year and never felt like second class citizens. Never. -
And can be turned up too when needed.

Embarkation and disembarkation [the first dis was utterly, utterly chaotic], the lifts situation, the service and ability to find what was available in the Lido equivalent, the service in the restaurant was slicker, staff seemed happier and at least one other issue which if I mention is bound to get me into trouble... everything seemed slicker. The hardware hasn't changed yet the ship, has.

I would have been utterly p'eed off if we had taken up Cunard's invitation to be on the Maiden, when it wasn't the naming Maiden and I don't blame anyone who feels they were misled over the Maiden v Naming cruises. Even more so if the ship wasn't really ready as I believe many have said. Indeed, we were on the second cruise along with exlondoner and there were definitely 'holes' in the experience [we still enjoyed it though]. However, if anyone asks me, and I know I bore for Britain now, if the ship is now 'ready', the answer is QA wasn't the same ship in July we experienced in May. We have quite an outlay on QA cruises over the next two years and I would cancel in an instant and forgo the deposits [as I have dne on other cruises when circumstanced got in the way after booking so far in advance] if I thought we were spending good money after bad. Queen Anne of now, isn't the same Queen Anne of five months ago.

So was I but in a short row right at the back so only a few toes to tread on! Had to go as it was an utter waste of time for me but glad others enjoyed it. Variety of entertainment for all tastes is great and good to see alive and kicking on QA as on other Cunard ships. 🙂
-
Of course they're nearly the same...but nearly doesn't quite cut it for us! 😄 For us, she's 'the friendly ship', our home from home and others will say the same about QE. It's a personal thing. 🙂

I'm envious. Not been on QV since last year but unless things have changed, she's still top of my pops. So saying, the cabins we're very lucky enough to book on Annie, are superb and we have enjoyed the ship even if I do have to yomp a bit to get to places at times, but...she's not Victoria! Victoria has a je ne sais quoi about her which for us, is indefinable but ever present. She's home. Annie is an Air B&B in comparison! 😅 Enjoy.
-
Not all. Those of us who choose not to fly at the moment [and there will be more than you think] have a much narrower choice so it's ship then itinerary. Sadly!
-
I'm dreadfully smug about the fact at the moment, they are almost three times the price I paid so as long as they don't 'volatile' down to below 600, they can be as volatile as they want.😀

Carnival has approved Stock ownership on Board Cedit
Victoria2 replied to Lakesregion's topic in Cunard Line
I realise the courtesy has been extended to Dec'25., but one could have sold the shares [as if, especially as shares were purchased when at rock bottom 👍] but claimed the obc as the proof of ownership has been given prior to selling the shares? That's why I assumed it would be a couple of months prior to departure that proof was needed but if it's accepted by Stockperks now, I'll go for it. Thx.🙂 -

How long in advance of the '25 cruises do you think we have to submit our claim? i.e. would a claim for October be too early at the moment? -
You sat through it? I walked out after twenty minutes as I was bored stiff.👎

You'll be glad to know Ilvan had a similar approach if at the desk when I came back from 'a visit'. In fact, most of the M'ds over the years have 'escorted' back to the table if free at the time. The first time I experienced that was from the wonderful Andrew Nelder. I was impressed.🙂 Must be part of Cunard M'ds training manual! -
For me, the essence of Cunard is its staff and passengers. Whatever labels some might like to cast around, it’s my fellow passengers and the staff who look after us which makes my holiday on Cunard.🙂
-
Yep! I was just confused as to what I'd demonstrated. Unrefined and not classy seems to be about it. 😄 Ah well, one day maybe!🙂
-
Ahh. Thanks. Demonstrated we're not refined or classy because we like a product which some have defined as unrefined and def. not classy! I can go with that. 👍 Plus, I reckon I'm in extremely good company judging by the CC members who find QA tolerable to outright great! They'll do for me! 😃

On the other hand, if you have a specific area of the ship or specific cabins in mind, it pays to book on launch date if possible for peace of mind and, the availability of the cabins.
-
2013 to 2019, we had to wait a month or so before QG cabins we wanted to book became available on the segments we wanted on QV's Worldies as not all cabins were released on launch. That maybe the case here for you.
