  1. Alaska is not super cold during the cruise ship season there.
  2. Cool. I could not read that screenshot on the device I was using. I can read it now on my computer. So we all did guess right that they were going to Coco Cay.
  3. It will be cute if the email has nothing to do with Coco Cay. it might be Perfect Day at Labadee, Perfect Day at Freeport or it could be that "Perfect Day is a misdirection.
  4. Visas are required if you fly in. They are not required for passengers on cruise ships calling at their ports under 72 hours.
  5. Cozumel and St. Maartin are bigger than Coco Cay. There are beach experiences at both those islands that are not crowded. Sure lots of cruise passengers plop at heavily polluted Great Bay Beach but there are isolated beaches for the passengers who take some initiative. Cozumel and St Martin also have things to do that are not beach activities.
  6. Oasis class won't be a smaller ship. There won't be the ports to take much larger than Oasis or Icon class. Many ports can't take Oasis class size. It is not just the dock size, harbor size and the ship channels, bridges they have to go under will cap size. There also would be safety issue if there had to be an evacuation. . .
  7. Good time to do a Norway cruise or the British Isles. Alaska would be my North America choice. We have done Alaska in August. My favorite August vacations was a land vacation. Iceland,
  8. Nothing is guaranteed but NCL is not going to stop paying the fee. They make enough revenue from the casino to justify the fee. They have been paying it for years now. If the fee was a hardship they would have stopped long ago.
  9. But what is the humidity? It is 103 where I am at now with some humidity. Probably lower humidity and heat factor where you are. The Caribbean can have really high humidity in August so a lower temp but higher heat factor.
  10. The casino is open. They have been opening it at 9:00 PM.
  11. If you read further under closed loop cruises it lists the other approved documents.
  12. A passport is not required on a closed loop cruise from Bayonne to Bermuda. A birth certificate and a government issued photo ID and the marriage certificate are good. You mention an Enhanced Drivers License. That would be good on its own if it actually an EDL but some people confuse Real ID, the license with the star with EDL. A Real ID DL is not an EDL and would have to be used with a birth certificate.
  13. There was recently a whole thread asking why Celebrity did not do Coco Cay. LOL if that what is announced.
  14. NCL and Oceana are owned by a holding company. NCHL. So NCL does not own Oceania. I have been on both and the difference between them is huge. They are operated separately. I am not a fan of NCL but I like Oceania.
  15. Well there is Vancouver and the Alaska market. Building new ships that could sail out of Baltimore, Tampa and Vancouver would require some long term thinking. Perhaps Royal would rather leave those markets. It is a business decision. If they leave Baltimore and Tampa there is the risk another company might swoop in to those markets. The new Oasis class ship is going to do 3 and 4 day cruises. Perhaps they are running out of ports for Oasis class. The 3 and 4 day cruises means they can double up.
  16. Possibly they could build ships with stacks that can be lowered to fit under the bridges.
  17. It may be a financial boost for some businesses but it may be a negative to other businesses and a negative to the quality of life. Some ports of late have been rejecting larger cruise ships or cruise ships altogether. Then there is the fact that many ports will never be accessible to larger ships.
  18. Hmm. I didn’t realize that had changed. Interestingly my old shortcut link which was to the content I posted in page still works but if I try to create a new link it does as you say. It only creates a link to the boards page. I liked making shortcut links on my homepage but probably the change creating a Cruise Critic icon on my homepage that opens to the boards page makes more sense. I will have to fool around and see if there is a way to make shortcut links.
  19. You can do that on now on cruise lines like Azamara, Oceania, Regent, Viking, Windstar etc. I don't see a mainstream cruise line like Royal entering that space. Royal is not about new destinations. It is about onboard revenue and captive private islands for revenue.
  20. If she is not available it is pretty easy to get a private taxi tour. They are $50 an hour with a three hour minimium. i did a four hour taxi tour once and saw plenty. Private taxi tour is much better than a shared minibus tour. The private taxi tour might even be less expensive or a wash than the cruise line minibus excursion,
  21. There are usually taxis arriving dropping off that you can catch. If there are no taxis at Fort St. Catherine ask the admission office there to call a taxi. Also the St. Reigis Hotel is nearby should be taxis there. Tobacco Bay too. I have usually walked to Tobacco, take some time at the beach then walk or take a taxi back to town. There is the Old Town Railway Tour a trolly type tour and I read they had restarted but I don't know much about it but I did see it in the Fort Catherine area in 2019 when I was walking. You could check at the Visitor Info Center on York St.
  22. I don't know why but you don't need any excursions. The port is close to downtown and most things you would want to do are nearby. They probably will have a bus transfer to near the Quincy Market. The Quincy Market and the Freedom Trail are pretty much what you would want to do in Boston. If you are able to walk the National Park service visitor center near the Quincy Market at Fanuil Hall will set you up with a map for DIY. I went frorm there north to Bunker Hill then took a ferry back to the near Quincy Market and walked the trail south to Boston Commons. The trail starts at Boston Commons so you just take a taxi or uber there and start there.
  23. That is on the mainland so you would have to take the vomit ferry to Playa Del Carmen from the ferry terminal downtown Cozumel, probably a taxi ride to the ferry terminal then a 30 minutes ferry ride, then a 20 minute or so taxi ride. I doubt it is worth the hassle.
  24. Caribbean cruises in August will have hundreds of children and when there are hundreds they tend to gang together and behave badly.
  25. I mentioned before we have had success when there was difficulty finding a place to sit getting help from crew. Also most buffet dining areas have some sections of single seats.
