Upcoming Summit cruise - a couple of questions...
Charles4515 replied to WrittenOnYourHeart's topic in Celebrity Cruises
I think that explains it. The ship is changing time ahead of arriving at the actual time zone. For passenger convenience. The actual time zone crossing could be 3:47 pm. That would cause confusion. So you need to change time manually which you can do in settings. My Apple Watch syncs with my iPhone so it will show the time on my iPhone. A Fitbit may do the same -

If your phone is not setting time automatically, not getting a GPS signal from the satellites then set the time manually. Not hard. -
Upcoming Summit cruise - a couple of questions...
Charles4515 replied to WrittenOnYourHeart's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Perhaps you don’t have location services turned on or you don’t have your phone set to automatically set time. Check your settings. Again smartphones set time automatically using GPS. That is the way they work. That GPS is always on even in airplane mode. If location services are on then the phone knows your location and automatically sets the time. -
Upcoming Summit cruise - a couple of questions...
Charles4515 replied to WrittenOnYourHeart's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Just to add to my post about the time syncing automaticly on phones some ships don't change time they keep ship time instead moving clocks ahead or back. In that situation on my phone I turn off automatically and set the time manually in settings. You can verify the time by looking at the time on your cabin phone. The cabin phone will have the time the ship is using. -

Despite misinformation others have posted your phone will change time because it knows location from syncing with GPS.Has nothjing to do with the internet. I don't know how Fitbits work but if it syncs with the phone then the time will sync. I have an Apple Watch and it changes automatically. -
The larger ships have to use Heritage Wharf. Both NCL and Royal Caribbean have large ships that have to use Heritage Wharf and are too large to use Kings Wharf. They both have ships that can use Kings Wharf. Kings Wharf is supposed to be enlarged but it does not seem to be a priority. I don't think there is an advantage except for NCL cruises it would be to be at Heritage Wharf because of the NCL ferry. It is not first come first serve. They are assigned and the berth is on the port schedule. published months in advance. http://www.marops.bm/Documents/Shipping_schedules/2023 Cruise Ship Schedule.pdf

When will Holland America go back to Bermuda?
Charles4515 replied to mightycruisequeen's topic in Holland America Line
Probably Flanagans. I did the same a couple of years ago on Oceania. Oceania and Viking and a few other upscale cruie lines have a few sailings that dock in Hamilton. -
Criminal Record Question
Charles4515 replied to Todd_1977's topic in Australia & New Zealand Cruisers
When you are in New Zealand waters or docked in New Zealand you are in New Zealand and the authorities can board. Most countries check the passenger manifest sent to them after a shp sails that lists passengers who will be onboard. If they match your name to an outstanding warrant then they could board and arrest you. This has happened. You should get it fixed before you go. -
Do you mean Viator? They are a third party middleman, they don’t organize tours they just resell them. You are not dealing with the actual tour organizer. Which might be problematic if something goes wrong. I have read reviews where they have not been helpful when there were problems. It is better to book direct with the tour company, in this case Bermudaful Island Tours. It is definitely better to book direct in Bermuda if you can.

Lately there have been a few more resorts offering passes but only at the last minute if they have availability. So if you call Pompano Bay or the Reefs or Cambridge Reefs a few days out they might. You would have to buy lunch or drinks and no cabanas. Next to Cambridge Reefs and possibly the same owner is Willowbank Resort. They have started offering day passes with different packages. I have yet to see a review of the day pass experiences. https://www.willowbankresort.com/experiences/resort-day-passes/ If it is cabanas that is your thing they might rent cabanas at Horseshoe Bay. The old concession had a few for rent but I am not sure the new one is now. They do rent chairs and you can buy food or beverages.

When will Holland America go back to Bermuda?

I don’t know but 60ft is a lot. There has to be clearance to make an 180 degree turn in Hamilton Harbour. Also draft makes a difference. -

Ironically larger ships is why I think cruise ships are wearing out their welcome at ports like Key West, Bar Harbor, Venice, Barcelona, Monterey and Santa Barbara and others. While they are good for some small businesses local residents get tired of the masses of one day visitors. -
When will Holland America go back to Bermuda?
Charles4515 replied to mightycruisequeen's topic in Holland America Line
Yes, HAL could go to the Dockyard. It is a busness decison by both Bermuda and HAL that they don't currently go regularly. Someday that could change but there has been no indication that it will. Cruise lines don't make public their future plans until they have something to announce. The question OP is asking is impossible to answer. -
When will Holland America go back to Bermuda?
Charles4515 replied to mightycruisequeen's topic in Holland America Line
There won't be any in the foreseable future. There are only two berths at the Royal Naval Dockyard. NCL Holdings and the Royal Caribbean Group have contracts with Bermuda. The other cruise lines don't and get any leftovers. NCL and Royal have made large investments, they contributed to the second dock and Royal paid for dredging of the channel so Quantum class ships could dock. NCL bought a ferry for it's passengers to get from the Dockyard to St. George and Bermuda loves that as they don't have to add more ferry service. The last time Holland America went to Bermuda it was semi regular to Hamilton. about 6 to 8 sailings for a few years. I went twice on Veendam which waa small enough to dock in Hamiton. HAL discontinued those sailings without bothering to inform Bermuda. Kind of rude. They were mad at Bermuda because Bermuda would not allow the casinos to remain open in port which ironically it is now allowed. Veendam has been sold. So there will be some irregular sailings but there won't be regularly scheduled cruises. -
When will Holland America go back to Bermuda?
Charles4515 replied to mightycruisequeen's topic in Holland America Line
HAL stopped going to Bermuda regularly years ago and has not announced any plans to return. There may be a few irregular calls off of transatlantic sailings. There are plenty of regular sailings available on Celebrity, NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival if you want to cruise to Bermuda. -
It is hot enough that it shrinks cotton polo shirts.
-
A regular cotton sports shirt came back with a hole. Another time a polo shirt had a hole. That is from the bags where where they send it back folded. Regular laundry which I paid for where the shirts came back on hangers I never had any issues. So know more shirts sent in the free folded laundry bag.

Passport Renewal - it's been 12 weeks so far
Charles4515 replied to gonole1972's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Passports are not required for closed loop cruises from a US port to Bermuda. You posted the requirement for air travel. For a closed loop cruise you can use a photo ID and a birth certificate. -
Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?
Charles4515 replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Royal has made a niche for itself of having super large ships with a large number of passengers. They do that rather well. I don’t think it makes sense for them to modify that formula which seems to work for them. The Royal group has Celebrity brand that has relatively smaller ships and they have reciprocated loyalty benefits. The other mainstream cruise lines have relatively smaller ships. None is forced to book Royal. Other choices exist in the mainstream category. Royal might in the future build some smaller Royal branded ships but I don’t see it as at the top of their to do list with their current financial situation. -
Out of NYC would you do Bermuda or Bahamas in Nov/Dec?
Charles4515 replied to kaz828's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Anthem of the Seas was designed for cruising out of northeast. The NCL ship I took to the Bahamas, Breakaway had no indoor pools or solarium. Also Breakaway had a casino that was open to the central public area and I always smelled cigarette smoke. -
I also only send underwear, t shirts and socks in the bags. I learned early on that nice items could be damaged. They also damaged a sports jacket sent to dry cleaning. I believe it was over pressed.

Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?
Charles4515 replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I would just fly to Hawaii. And no way I would do Alaska on Royal Caribbean. Royal does not do Glacier Bay. I did Alaska on Holland America from Vancouver and it was a great itinerary and cruise. Holland America and Princess are the best cruise lines to sail on out of Vancouver since they have the best Alaska itineraries and cruise tours. Best to leave Royal Caribbean for the Caribbean. -
I finally looked and I did get my points. I am not hyped to check cause I have over 2000 to get to Zenith. I keep hoping they will add a tier or milestone in between but I guess they have no reason to. They probably think when we have reached Elite Plus that we will keep booking to use those perks.
