  1. If she's never traveled, cruising alone out of the country (assuming Vancouver is involved) would probably be too overwhelming as a first step especially since she doesn't do things alone. I keep telling my friends to step out of their comfort zone especially before we all get older (things just feel/seem more scary when you get older). Hopefully, she'll be ready before her credit expires and then discovers a whole new world.
  2. Well now I'm going to have find some, lol. How full can the bag be? I think last time we folded the end so that we'd hope things wouldn't drop out, but I saw a video last night where the guy had stuff sticking out of the top! I guess tape would help in that case too.
  3. Thanks! That's what I'm hoping for, but you're right... we could also wait for the 2nd one. I'll roll as you suggested and hope at least a couple of pairs of jeans will fit!
  4. I posted a question and then realized I already asked it even though I searched for over 30 minutes and couldn't find anything. My follow up question regarding the laundry bag at $29 is if we're willing to pay for 2 bags, will they allow us to do that? Or is it just 1 bag per room? Thank you!
  5. Even at home we were scammed from a service that we've used for many years... the company is only as good as the driver. I reported the person to the service, and they said they won't send him again. Our last ride back to the airport from our hotel to JFK in NY was similar. That one did have a specific rate of $52, I think, and he said it'd be $67. I told him it's $52, and he said that's the start without his fees and tolls. Finally he said $63 because he'd go the way without tolls to save me money. Right. And he insisted on cash since he made sure to ask us if we had that first. Unfortunately, we are at his whim... if we didn't agree, who knows where he'd take us to. And we were so ready to leave after spending a week in Manhattan. His license was right in front of me (in the back seat), and I think I did take a photo. I tried to report it, but in NYC, it's a general number, not to the taxi company itself... they are brazen. If again, I'll do what martincath suggested: get in and snap the photo right away. I wonder if we had ended up paying by credit card, would we have been able to dispute it afterwards? Then if the taxi company got charged back, they might ask who the driver was.
  6. Normally, I wouldn't care, but I'm doing a B2B, so two 7-day cruises and am really hoping they will provide that 1 bag for 1 price type of thing so that I'll have clean clothes and not a stinky room😁
  7. I have nothing to add to this thread, which is going all over the place, but I wanted to say, "What a lovely legacy he left!" 💖
  8. At home I hang dry my tops so that they don't shrink, so I always have to remember not to include them in the laundry bags.
  9. Agree w/above. Yes, this. I don't care if I have to wait longer, but whether on time or late, it has to be clean but especially late! Agree. So hopefully my question won't get lost... if there is hair or other "debris" of other guests, or if it looks like something isn't vacuumed (again, hair or debris), do I call Guest Services/Housekeeping? Cuz they are no longer outside waiting to greet us anymore. I usually let it go because it's "only" whatever, and I hate pointing stuff out like, "there's 2 hairs over there" or "can you vacuum that tiny piece of paper?" but that icky stuff really bugs me.
  10. We ate at Taste and Savor almost every night on our 14-day Panama Cruise. I made reservations for dining before I got on the ship just so I'd have something, but when I got on and looked up the show times each night, I had to adjust a bunch of them. It was not a problem. I spoke to the maitre'd and she asked for all the changes and took care of them. A couple of times we showed up at the wrong time (and possibly even wrong restaurant - they are across from each other), and they sat us. Especially 7:30 should be fine. You can book for 8:30 just to have something and then change it. Or get on a make all reservations at the same time. Have fun!
  11. We were on Joy in December, excited to try the wings, and were disappointed. Good to know that perhaps things have changed for whatever reason because I had read they were really good and found them to be skinny and hard. Unlike leithbones, we didn't try again, but we're going on the Jewel in a couple of weeks... and will order at O'Sheehan's like he/she said, "hoping NCL learns how to do wings." 😁
  12. Usually I do multiple appetizers and 1 entree or I'll ask for 2 small entrees because I know I can't eat it all. Other times, I'll get an entree that some of us want to try, so then we share it. And sometimes we order an extra entree w/o the sides 😊
  13. I was looking at a Sea Terrace room but now wonder if I should just stick w/Sea View? Hate the smell of cigarettes and pot... thoughts? Thanks!
  14. I see what you're saying. I totally get the problem w/tiktok/reels obsession. I had to "hide" reels from FB because it was sucking up all my time. And I've told people not to send me stuff to watch because then the next reel comes on and I'm stuck. I think what actually bugs me about kids watching stuff while eating is that I feel like parents need to engage w/their kids instead of making it easy for themselves... like why does a 15 month old need to watch a show on iphone? BUT it's worse when they have the volume on - i don't need to hear it. Not sure if I agree they go hand in hand. My husband and I watch vloggers in lieu of TV shows at night. In any case, from my personal experience, it's actually hard work, which is another reason why I don't do it consistently, aka wannabe.
  15. This is very interesting to me. I am a GenX, who is obese, and take photos of my food. I am also a vlogger-wannabe. I just don't know why any of these things matter to anyone though😁 which is why this is interesting to me.🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway, when I take photos, I don't use the flash, so it shouldn't bother anyone else.. I also don't return food or complain it's cold because I took too long (apparently people do that but not sure if it's true). Their presentation is so pretty, and I like to share; I don't know if my FB friends are interested or not or whether they think I'm bragging, but people do tell me they appreciate seeing them (and there's no reason they should be insincere about it). I am also a scrapbooker, so many of my photos go into my scrapbooks. I'm a vlogger wannabe because it's something I share w/my daughter and for me to keep up with technology. It's a stretch and a challenge for me, you know working the brain with new stuff (camera functions, speaking impromptu, increase eye for detail, etc.); however, I haven't vlogged on a cruise ship before, mostly because I feel like that would take away from my enjoyment of the cruise. Let's see... GenX and obese... not sure why this matters... kind of feel that at my age, it should be a good thing that I'm trying different things as a human instead of not adapting to change. And that weight has always been an issue for me, but that has nothing to do with whether I take photos of my food or vlog on a cruise. I may have missed the point of that. You know what bugs me in public? People who let their infants, toddlers, and kids watch stuff on ipad or phone while eating and especially with the volume on! I see this on airplanes, restaurants, etc. Large groups of people in the MDR who talk and laugh extremely loudly constantly where smaller tables of people can't hear each other talk.
  16. I also want to say that you did great; I can't imagine it doing it as a solo caregiver. We went on a cruise as a "final" one for my FIL, and everyone went, which meant about 14 caregivers of children, in laws, and grandchildren, and it was a lot of work. Last December, the 3 of us brought MIL (FIL passed away 3 years ago), and it was still a lot of work. None had dementia! Also thanks for sharing! Love that random strangers came with help!
  17. You'd think they would do that since it would save them money instead. I've asked. I think you guys get that because of the "minor" part. I'll ask again. Thanks.
  18. I remember seeing Lions Gate Bridge... I feel so much better than a local got stuck in the loop because I was very much feeling Twilight Zone😁 Also Georgia Street seems to be where 49th Parallel/Donuts is!
  19. Yes, I've done this twice; we don't drink alcohol, so it's not worth it for us even to pay just gratuities. I wish they would include a different package for us though like just soda (Carnival has a great one that is soda and mocktails, so I always buy that even though it really is a splurge for me)
  20. Ooooh empty space😁 Our last cruise was out of Ft. Lauderdale, and there were thousands waiting in the hot sun in lines for hours that were barely moving. We will be returning our car around 9:30 and taking the train towards Canada Place and walking (from what I remembered), so I guess we'll arrive maybe around 10:30. Probably will be more crowded by then, but I appreciate this info!!!
  21. It's like you're a mind reader... I plan our vacations around the food. Get the food places organized first and then see what's there to do. I have all this mapped out already. THANK YOU! I will pass on the clothing optional one - good to know so that I don't accidentally end up there😁 Yeah, this is going to be a problem for me since A1C is in September, but hopefully I'll be okay. Keep up the great work to avoid the D! @YVRteacher Can you help me find the Seawall? The last 2 times I went we had problems. Most recently, we went into Stanley Park via Robson, got to a place where we stopped to take photos (maybe had totems), but every time we tried to go further into the park, we kept getting stuck in a loop even w/GPS! I know there's a trail where people walk, run, bike, take pictures... and I can't get to it! Thank you!
  22. Looking forward to learning what you will be doing... We honeymooned in Vancouver for a week (24 and 26 year olds who didn't know what they were doing); we've gone back several times due to cruises but spent a week there to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We're doing B2B 7/24-8/7 with 2 days in Vancouver before we board... staying at the Gage Suites at UBC so who knows what will happen😁 and have rental car.
  23. Laughing at the similarities of no problem but drawing guns is a little scary! Seems a little extreme! When I bring laundry detergent in a zip loc bag, I always write detergent on it... figure maybe they won't believe me, but at least it'll make them consider it as an option.
  24. OK... both DH and I use those weekly pill box things... and will also be flying to Vancouver to board an Alaskan cruise. Now that I know, I guess I better be prepared just in case!
