  1. We ended up taking a taxi it was so easy. There was a stand right as you left the terminal.
  2. On our recent Med cruise we had 2 tender ports. The first one was Villefranche and they decided because the local area provided tenders we did not need tender tickets could go ashore when they made the announcement for the gangway being open. I am not sure if we docked at 7 am could have been earlier but I believe that was at 7:30 am we could get off. For Portofino started calling tender tickets around 7:15 am or 7:30 am. I know it was while we were at breakfast and could hear the announcement in the Windjammer. We had number 22 which we got around 8 am and due to an issue with the ship tenders were not called until 12:30 pm.
  3. Thanks for the advice. We actually have allergy cards in Spanish and several other languages from other international trips. I was trying to find out if anyone else has been to Mexican ports with food allergies and how the experience has been or if anyone can say if they found food spicy or not if there wold be anything pretty plain even a hot dog for them to eat.
  4. We are considering a Mexican cruise for next summer but a few of my family members have food allergies. They can’t have dairy or any spice that is hot like black pepper. They are concerned about restaurants at the ports being able to accommodate them. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
  5. We did that with Royal a number of years ago around Memorial Day and had such an amazing trip. We brought mostly winter clothes and they had a rare warm spell that week we were glad we bought a few shorts and t-shirts as well.
  6. I would not chance it. We were recently on a cruise that left out of Barcelona. We came in a few days beforehand and our flight from the US left an hour and a half late due to an issue with the plane they had to fix. Because of that we landed late morning 10:30 am I think it was instead of 9 am which is what it originally was supposed to be. When we got off and went to passport control there was a long line. We were lucky some guy started randomly pulling families out of the line to go to one of the counters for other countries and we were one of them. We were also fortunate we did not have long to wait for our baggage. The taxi stand was wonderful the line moved fast. We got to our hotel and even though we has selected for early check in our room was not ready but they held our luggage. We were happy to have only booked Casa Battlo and Casa Mila one for 2 pm and the other for 4:30 pm which were near our hotel.
  7. We were recently on a Med cruise out of Barcelona that was a 7 day ending in Civitavecchia. We were talking to a couple who told us they had an issue with their flight from the US and were able to board in Marseille which was Day 3 and our first port stop after a day at sea. I don’t know if their flight was booked through Royal or not.
  8. We took a taxi to Monaco you could probably get one to Eze. Just arrange a time to be picked back up.
  9. We were recently on a cruise with a port stop there and did the excursion Aix on Your Own.
  10. Thanks so much for the info I really appreciate it!
  11. I just found out after our recent cruise we have moved up to platinum! Do we get a new card and pin or anything with our new status?
  12. We were recently on Enchantment on a Med cruise and saw a lot of people men and women wore shorts or jeans and t-shirts and nothing was said. I tried to wear a dress or nice shirt and pants but a few times we just made it to dinner without time to change from our day out.
  13. We recently were on a cruise that ended in Civi. We went on Royal and booked through them the shuttle to the train station for 6:45 am. We missed it due to a miscommunication and had to wait for the next which was maybe 15-20 minutes. Once at the train station it as easy to buy tickets to Rome there was a tourist office right as we arrived selling other things but also had train tickets. It is small but we had to figure out which track the next regional train was on and discovered we had to go down steps to get under and back up to get to other side and had trouble validating our tickets in the green machine but luckily we found someone to help. It was an hour and 14 minute ride. We were going to Venice and luckily had booked the high speed train from Rome to Venice ahead of time as Rome Termini is huge and took time to figure out where to go.
  14. I saw it offered on our recent Med cruise on Enchantment.
  15. For our recent cruise the luggage tag was on the last page of the cruise docs available at 30 days. There was only one so I had to make copies.
  16. That was the price for the shuttle Royal was offering to the Civi train station 25 dollars or euros whichever it was they told us the cost before we selected the time. Sorry for any confusion I was referring to the food on the train itself in case someone expected there to be a cafe car to let them know there are only snack vending machines. Yes if you have time at the station looks like a lot of food offerings.
  17. We were recently on a cruise. A few days before the end we got info left in our room about booking different types of transportation but it did not show getting to the Civitavecchia train station so we went to guest services and were told they had a shuttle for 25 a person can’t remember if in dollars or euros. They gave us a choice in time and we picked 6:45 am and let them know we were taking our own luggage off. We were going to Venice from Rome and had already booked the high speed train on Italo Treno for 10:53 am and did the flex fare in case it took longer and we missed it. Getting off the ship was very quick we were in a minivan with another family. It was very easy once we got to the Civi train station to buy our ticket to Rome. It is a small station but had to figure out which track to go to and it ended up we had to go down steps to get to the other side and had trouble validating our tickets in the green things but luckily found someone there to help. The ride to Rome was an hour and 14 minutes. The Rome Termini is very big and confusing but finally we found out where we needed to go and made our train. Just a heads up they only have vending machines with drinks and snack food no cafe. When we booked our Rome to Venice we had also booked Venice back to Rome. We found the trains ran on time luckily no train strikes on the days we took trains.
  18. We were lucky for the regional train from Civi to Rome the train car we got on was not very crowded. But, there was no place to put our luggage we were told by the guy helping us on that we had to leave it near the door and we kept constant watch.
  19. We were recently on a Med cruise not to Greece and saw everything in the MDR from shorts and t-shirts to dresses and nice shirts and pants.
  20. Just a heads up I would get Colosseum tickets on your own. I have heard stories on different travel message boards I go on where a tour was cancelled last minute because they could not get the tickets. We were there the other day and while waiting to get in talked to a couple who had that happen. They go on sale 30 days in advance and have to be online at the time you want. For example if you need a 9 am have to be on at 9 am Rome time which for us was 3 am US east coast time. We heard it is easier to get regular tickets or with audio guide than the arena floor or full access. My husband and I went on 2 devices and kept refreshing for an hour before we could get them. They then go on sale 7 days in advance and if still unsuccessful they have a day of ticket window.
  21. We arranged transportation with Royal to get to the train station. Once there it was easy to get the ticket to Rome Termini you have to remember to validate your ticket in one of the green things and then find out which track we had to go down steps to go to the other side. It is a pretty small station. The ride is about an hour and 15 minutes. The train station in Rome is huge. There is a taxi stand as you get out to the left. The HOHO busses have a stop there as well if you decide to do that. The whole route takes an hour and 45 minutes.
  22. Just to give a heads up I have heard on different message boards about issues with tours that include the Colosseum being cancelled last minute as they could not get tickets and were out of luck. Now they offer a day of ticket. We are in Rome now and did everything on our own no tour and have been very happy. There are no tickets to St. Peter’s can just go in just have to get through security and battle the crowds but for the dome climb have to get tickets which are only available the day of there is a clearly marked line. We had bought Vatican Museum tickets online. It is available 60 days in advance but sometimes the special ones like with lunch or a tour are available after that. It is a 15 minute walk around the wall. For the Colosseum you have to go online at 30 days at the time you want. For example if you need 9 am you go on 9 am Rome time which is 3 am US east coast time. My DH and I had 2 devices and kept refreshing for an hour before tickets became available which were for that and Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, It is easier to get the regular ones or with audio than the arena floor or full access. If you can’t get them then there is another chance at 7 days beforehand and if still no luck as mentioned before the day of ticket office but go early the line seemed to be long every time we passed by,
  23. We did the prepaid gratuities for our recent Enchantment cruise but our stateroom attendant and main waiter and assistant waiter in the MDR were so good we gave an additional tip in an envelope.
  24. We actually are staying in Rome right now and did all of the Vatican things in one day St. Peters with dome climb (no reservations needed to get in to the cathedral itself but if you want the dome climb have to get a ticket which you can only get the day of and the Vatican Museum is where the Sistine Chapel is which is a 15 minute walk around the wall and tickets are offered online 60 days in advance but can sometimes get if you pick a special type like one that includes lunch or a tour and we had another day for the Colosseum with Roman Forum and Palatine Hill so not sure of the distance between the Vatican complex and Colosseum we took a taxi from our hotel and back both of those days. The Trevi Fountain is about a 5 minute walk from our hotel which is somewhere near The Pantheon we are told but have not gotten there yet so not sure if the same direction as the fountain or a short walk the other way. We were told that the Colosseum is about a 15-20 minute walk which was too much for us.
  25. We did Genoa on our own on our recent cruise. We took a taxi to the aquarium and then did the HOHO Bus. We are slow and spent a lot of time there so did not have an opportunity to get on and off the bus to see attractions we just rode it one circuit which is an hour and got off at the stop near the cruise terminal.
