Refurbishment of thalassotherapy room in AquaSpa 28. Installation of additional public bathrooms outside the Orion restaurant 29. Replacement of theatre carpet and soft goods Suggestions that they might install balconies on the aft cabins of decks 8 and 10, and move the flower gallery from the mid ship bar on deck 7. This seems like a lot to accomplish in two weeks in April , but the Galaxy which we were last on in June 2007 could use some sprucing up. Hope this helps on making your travel arrangements on this ship. k.k.
richsea Posted September 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks so much for that list of improvements! I sincerely hope that "Refurbishment of thalassotherapy room in AquaSpa" doesn't mean the removal of the T pool:( like they did on Century! Other than that, everything sounds good! ecslady Posted September 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Finally the "Replacement of 25 windows in the Stratosphere Lounge" :) And, I agree - I hope that doesn't mean removal of the T-pool. Thanks for posting!
mrjim Posted September 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2007 I hope that they will install a speciality restaurant. It's not on the list.
CoralReef Posted September 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2007 I had heard that they would be putting in a specialty restaurant. I actually hope they don't...I think that service and food quality in the main dining room suffer when cruise lines add surcharge dining. We are booked on the Galaxy for two cruises in January and May of 2008, so I guess we'll find out!
kk99 Posted September 20, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I called my TA back and asked him about the speciality restaurant. I don't think it will happen since it is only a short drydock. If they were to overhaul the Galaxy like the Century, then it wouls be a possibility later on down the road. The list of improvements is more of a sprucing up instead of an overhaul. We had a great time in June(our 3rd cruise on the Galaxy) , foggy windows and all! k.k. Rare hcat Posted September 20, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2007 If they keep the t pool we will sail on her for sure!
C 2 C Posted September 20, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Well that is a bit of a disappointment. Almost all the points listed involve "sprucing up". I had been led to believe that there would be a specialty restaurant and a new sunset bar. I had a few negative posts about the state of Galaxy after last year's cruise in May. New decking and finally windows that allow viewing are major pluses. Strange though that only half the counter tops (#5) will be replaced.
Rare Lois R Posted September 20, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Well, I am sailing her in March for my 50th birthday:) The BIG 50:D .....no cloudy windows nor worn carpets, nor stain in sink will have an adverse affect on my sailing;) Looks like I will be on her a month before this drydock. Will let you know what I think of her....I love Mercury and Century and am quite happy to be able to sail Galaxy too!

I think that you have just the perfect attitude for your upcoming cruise on the Galaxy. I agree with you and would be quite happy to sail on any ship as long as I was prepared for what to expect. Happy Sailing.

I am trying to convince DH to let me book her for my 50 next year in October. I think she sounds wonderful and the facelift will be a nice extra!
