sidari Posted June 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Found this posted on my FB page regarding Alaska and the Carnival Corporation which may or may not impact any chance of MSC sailing there. Carnival Corp brought some good news to Alaskans the other day, Thet were instrumental in the purchase of the White Pass-Yukon Railroad, which, in season, is a huge visitor enterprise operating out of Skagway. They purchased the railroad and the Four Piers they own for just shy of $300 Million.
tallnthensome Posted June 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2018 The Seaside would be a great ship for Alaska and we hoped it would sail there.
sidari Posted June 11, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Tall ... Seaside is the wrong class of ship for Alaska, if any go I would think the Fantasia class would be best suited but I guess it will come down to the emissions etc that Alaska insisted on. Abaddon Posted June 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2018 I haven't been on a big cruise ship in Alaska but I've on a glacier cruise, and watching the glaciers break off, seeing humpback whales and killer whales is something you'll never forget. Now that NCL has a mega ship sailing to Alaska, BLISS, it seems that MSC just needs to find a place in the schedule. Other lines have 2-4 ships doing this itinerary. Many of the ports now very crowded.
sfaaa Posted June 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2018 Many of the ports now very crowded. Talk about overcrowding. It is not uncommon to see 4 or even 5 cruise ships with over ten thousand tourists all visiting the same port on the same day. It will be like Miami or Nassau soon if this trend continues. Toofarfromthesea Posted June 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2018 On our recent Alaska cruise there was one other ship in port at Sitka and the Fortress of Bears was completely overwhelmed.
