Melbourne Hotel

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We have booked our cruise. First one in New Zealand and Australia.

Can somebody help me for this in Melbournem ? We will take the bus or tram from port to the city. We want to take the bus next day to Melboune aiport. Is there a common or nearby intersection with a nearby hotel where the but/tram from the pier and the bus to the airport crosses or close. Please let me know hotel choices based on this.

Thanks

Manoj

What’s your budget.

How far can you walk from hotel to stop. Those two things will make a huge difference

As GUT2407 said, your budget and distance you are able to walk will determine the best hotel for you if you want to use the light rail from Station Pier to the city.

The light rail is route 109. Close to the CBD the light rail/tram passes through Southbank and up Spencer Street to Collins Street. There are many hotels close to this route. You mention taking the bus to the airport. I assume you mean the Skybus? Skybus operates from Southern Cross Station and from Docklands/Southbank. This the link to the Skybus website -https://www.skybus.com.au/melbourne-airport

To travel by public transport to the airport is not easy and would mean catching a train and then a bus.

The tram goes to Southern Cross station (and turns into Collins St there), which is where the Skybus to the airport departs from, so I'd suggest looking at a booking website map to see what hotels or apartment hotels are in that region that suit your budget. There appear to be a number of places within a block of the station.

We just returned from a visit to Australia. We took the Skybus from the Melbourne airport to near our hotel. The Skybus stop was less than a city block from our hotel, The Quest Docklands. We really enjoyed this hotel as we had almost a small apartment with living room, kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom with washer & dryer (they supplied the laundry soap). We found the rates at this hotel to be less than other hotels in the CBD. It was also very close to tram stops for the free trams around the CBD. There were several good restaurants close by, especially the Ginger Leaf Thai Restaurant across the street.

Hello,

We can walk and were looking around $150-$200 for the night. So the SkyBus stop close to the bus/tram stop from Pier ?

Thanks

Manoj

Is that US$ or Aus$

$Aus200 you might struggle.

There’s an IBIS in Little Bourke St, not far from Southern Cross Station that would fit your budget, they’re a bit basic, but clean and comfortable.

Quest are good, but not sure you’ll get in for under the $200 mark

The tram stop is in Collins St near the Spencer St intersection. It looks like the SkyBus leaves from the Southern Cross Bus terminal which is a couple of blocks along from Collins St.

Check out the hotels on a site like

the Booking.com map, then have a look at the Skybus route... also have a look at what's recommended on TripAdvisor. You did not mention the date you are travelling, so that will make a difference to the nightly rate. Good luck.

Skybus offers transportation to/from Southern Cross Station to most CBD hotels with the purchase of a trip to or from the airport. You can check with them for more information. I've used it on several occasions.
