Upgrade to a balcony cabin?

OK, without stating the obvious - one has a balcony - one hasn't! It depends on a lot of things. What kind of trip is it - a hot weather trip or not, location of your ocean view versus the balcony location, what perks you got with your booking because would you prefer to use the $600 for extras. We've done various cabins on various trips, my choice is always depending on the options listed above and price.

good luck

I agree with the previous reply and also consider the amount of sea days on your cruise. When we couldn’t fine lounge chairs in the sun by the pool and rec areas we were able to lay out in the sun on our balcony.

Sometimes when you get a balcony you will then be eligible to get 2 free perks (drink package and ship credit), this would be worth the extra $600 in itself, depends on the sailing.

No difference in rooms themselves. Consider all points mentioned. Lots of cruisers book the balcony but don't sit on it often. On warm weather itineraries, we eat our light room service breakfast there EVERY day. Too, we have cocktails before dinner out there. If you are going to just use it as a big window, I wouldn't spend the money. All depends on your ship "lifestyle".;)

Book at your own risk ;p You may not be able to go back to anything less! Once I booked balcony, I could never talk myself back down after that. I just love having my own private, quiet water view to escape the crowds - I spend hours there reading and listening to music. Coffee in the am, drinks in the pm...sunrises, sunsets.

Also, while odds are slim that you'll get sick or have any problems, if you ever did catch anything like the flu or noro onboard and were confined to your cabin, you'd at least be able to get fresh air anytime you wanted. I am always paranoid at booking an inside or oceanview and then the worst happens and I'm trapped inside for 3-4+ days.

I know many disagree and people certainly get great deals on lower level cabins, all while enjoying the same ports and ship benefits. But we don't do specialty restaurants, spas or casino - so the balcony is my one guilty pleasure I'll never give up.

On celebrity, those perks only require an OV room.

We have always loved a balcony stateroom, although on our last cruise on the Infinity (California Coastal), we perfectly enjoyed our ocean view stateroom. However, on our November 2019 Southern Caribbean cruise (booked while on the Infinity cruise), we initially booked another ocean-view room, but after doing some monitoring, found our upgrade to a balcony after a price drop - so got the balcony for the same price we originally paid for an ocean view.

I agree with other posters - depends on the sailing and season. But, when traveling in fall/winter in the Caribbean, it is really nice to have that private balcony for morning sunrises, etc.!!

Will you use the balcony? Other than the balcony and the location of the cabin (balconies are usually higher up) there's no difference. The rooms are nearly identical, the perks should be the same (outside vs balcony). We seem to usually book a balcony and I have no idea why, we never use it. Other than poking my head out to see whats happening when we dock we rarely use it. We like to be out and about, up on deck or on shore.

We're only wiling to pay $200 per week, for a balcony over an OV. Assuming that's not a 3 week cruise, would say no. It's value to you, your budget, and what region you're sailing, may create a very different answer. You could always book an OV now, and watch for price drops.

The "free" perks are never really free. One can usually get a resident rate or senior rate w/o the perks for SIGNIFICANTLY less !!!
