klhage89 Posted February 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2018 We are a family of 6 adults (2 parents and 4 college students) cruising with Carnival in March. Our flight does not leave the Fort Lauderdale airport until 9:30 to come home. We are doing the Everglades excursion with Carnival to take up some of the time and they will keep our bags until the excursion is over, however, what to do after that. We have thought about using the baggage storage facility at the airport and finding something to do after our excursion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It will be a Long Day at the airport if we can't find something to do that isn't too expensive. Thanks!
JohninDC Posted February 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2018 www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area tourist info After storing your bags at FLL I would look at riding the water taxi, stopping somewhere for early dinner/drinks, and then heading back to the airport. If the weather cooperates and afternoon on the beach is always an option. Good luck and have a great cruise.

capriccio Posted February 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2018 How do we get to the water taxi from the airport? Take a taxi/uber to the closest stop at the 17th Street bridge next to the Hilton Marina hotel.
cookingmom Posted February 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2018 We are in the same situation. We found that renting a car was the smartest and most economical solution for us. The savings in transportation costs from the port to FLL for 6 of us alone was a bargain. We will just load the luggage in the minivan, and tour on our own. The weather will dictate whether we make it to the Everglades or the beach or the water taxi.
BNBR Posted February 13, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2018 I would cancel the excursion. Rent a van. Then go to Sawgrass Recreation Park for the Everglades airboat tour and they have a great zoo there, too. It's just a short drive down the highway from the port. Or you can travel down to Shark Valley. You can do the water taxi, you can also go to the Upper Keys for a day trip, you can do stuff in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Everglades, etc. The options are endless. If you give us an idea of your plans and if you decide to just rent a car, we can give you all sorts of advice.
BlueHerons Posted February 13, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2018 I would spend the day at the beach! There are some great restaurants across the street from the beach that have good food and make for great people watching!

Are there rental car companies at the cruise port? If not, how do we get from the cruise port to the rental company location?

If not, how do we get from the cruise port to the rental company location? Alamo and others will shuttle you from the port to their in town locations. If you get a better price by renting from the FLL airport location a taxi is only about $15 or you can Uber for under $
travelchic3 Posted February 14, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 14, 2018 You could rent a hotel room for the day at dayuse.com.
aeneas3 Posted February 14, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2018 we have 2 hours shorter to waste next week and are taking an uber to the cheapest of the rental places (budget) and then driving to the anne kolb nature center. wonlife64 Posted February 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2018 A couple year back we went to the airport, stored our bags, and then took the free Sun Trolley to the Riverwalk. The free trolley also stopped at other places. For us, it was all that we needed and much better than sitting around the airport. Note: The airport route only operates on Saturday and Sundays. http://www.suntrolley.com/routes-schedules-fares/airport/
