Looking for adivce as we cruise to St. Maarten

We have never visited St Maarten we are looking for info to help plan?

How far is the main shopping district is it on Front St? How far is this from the port? Are cabs near by to take us to this area?

We then want to go to Maha Beach to see the plane landings how far is this and are cabs near by to take us to this location?

We are open to any suggestions of things not to miss :) shopping, restaurants etc

Kind of like how this forum is nothing but questions and answers about things ON an NCL Ship.

If NCL is still using their old dock, you jump on the water taxi from the port over to the main shopping area. You can buy a round trip or just pay at the booth each way.

I can tell you this is a very long

long walk to town. But worth it, unless it is scorching outside :eek:

Maho is $15 pp on minibus.

Short walk to town. Maybe 15 minutes. Flat and easy. You can take a cab if you want, but the water taxi is a better option. There is a lot of info on the St. Martin port of call board.

Planes are definitely landing as this is their only runway (not only airport on the island but Princess Juliana's only one). The beach is open but not as, I guess "deep" would be the word (i.e. distance from road to water line), as it used to be. Because of scouring of the underlying sand, caused by the storm, the drop off of the beach to deep water is much shorter now. The road running between the beach and the fence has been reopened (although more of a sand road now than paved like it used to be). The Sunset Bar and Grill is open and hopping again. Not sure about the one at the other end.

Be sure to search out Miguel with the orange umbrellas on Great Bay Beach. That is the best way to spend a relaxing day on this beautiful island. I am good friends with Miguel and his family. They will take good care of you! You can rent loungers and umbrellas and he brings your food and drink right to your chair!
