Coupon vs Pre-Loaded

Recommended Posts

Have they started pre-loading your Sea-Pass cards with Crown Anchor benefits or still using coupon books ?

Thank You !!

The first cruise using the electronic coupons was the Freedom cruise that just ended today. I think Grandeur is next.

How do you know what coupons you have used and what you have left when they are on your sea pass?

I believe someone reported that they could see their coupon status by using the interactrive TV in the stateroom.

Just back from FOS and yes, they did have preloaded coupons. Only one that wasn't preloaded was Internet coupon. If there was a way to see which ones were used, I was never able to figure it out. Didn't see it on the tv. It was a bit confusing to try to remember which sea pass DH and I had used to redeem an offer and which one still had the offer remaining on it. But as someone who always forgets to bring coupons when I go to the store, it was convenient having them preloaded. And I left one of our Internet coupons behind in the stateroom when we left :)

According to the paper that was in our cabin when we boarded, there was supposed to be a free link to the status that we could access from our "personal electronic device" or from the pc's in the internet café. Unfortunately, we could never get the link to come up on our Ipad, and the link didn't work in the café's:(

Thanks for the info. Does this mean there are ipads in the staterooms?

Also just off Freedom. There was a listing in our room from the first day of what was loaded on our card. When we used our drink coupon in the MDR, our waiter actually printed off for us what we had left. Guest services will do the same. Didn't see the option on the TV.

Were you able to "choose" when to use your drink coupon? Or did they automatically redeem it?

Unfortunately, no. We have our own.

For us, they were automatically redeemed the first time we did something that they were good for. The BOGO/BO get a discount on the second beer coupons, for example (interesting side note on this was that if we went to a bar that didn't have draft beer, they redeemed the BOGO on bottled beer).:) In the casino, we presented our seapass cards at the cashier, and they swiped them and gave us the "spin to win" coins.

We had an iPad in our cabin on our recent Enchantment cruise.

I had read that some ships were getting iPads, but only in certain category staterooms. Was that the case on EN?

We had a JS. Don't know about other cabin categories. We never used it. It was much easier to ask Reyno to print off a copy of our SeaPass Account.:)

Thanks, I guess we will see how the iPads work in September.:)

That's disappointing, especially for the logo shop coupon where you might save your big purchase until later in the cruise or the BOGO drink coupon when you might want to use it when you're trying a more expensive glass of wine.

This is one of the things I was afraid of with going all-electronic. I'd much rather have paper coupons that get redeemed only when I choose to redeem them. There are certain coupons (BOGO drinks, Logo Shop, etc) where deciding when to use them could result in a significant difference in saving. They need to have some way to tell the cashier that you do not want to use a particular discount on your account with a specific purchase.

I've always used these BOGO coupons on bottled beer. I've never heard anything saying they were supposed to be restricted to draft and I've never even been questioned when redeeming one for bottle beer.

I was concerned about this too. We frequently use the BOGO drink coupon for an expensive glass of wine, and the automatic use would not get the most bang for the buck for us. I suppose every time we order 2 drinks, we will have to specify "Please don't use my coupon now".

So, if I order one glass of wine with dinner will they automatically bring two? Or, when will the 2nd glass be free?

I'd hope it would be the 2nd case -- automatically credit the stuff that is 'free'.

We have always used ours for bottled beer. This past cruise I got a foo foo drink and my husband ordered a beer using the coupon thinking that he would get 2 beers but they charged for my drink and his beer was no charge. I did not know you could buy a regular drink and then get the beer free.

Yes, it works for wine by the glass too. At least version 17 did. Don't know about the electronic coupons.

Exactly. I have always used my BOGO for a nice glass (well, 2 glasses) of wine.

I am primarily a beer drinker with a few foo foo frozen drinks thrown in and then wine at night. I don't think I want to start my cruise off at 11:00am with a glass of wine to get my value out of the BOGO. :o

I'm not Diamond (yet) so I don't have many opportunities for "free" drinks onboard. I like to maximize when I can. It also gives me an opportunity to try something more expensive that I will more of if I like it. If we aren't able to ask them to not redeem the coupon, I will be disappointed -- not ruin my cruise disappointed, LOL...just a difference from what we are used to doing with the same coupons in the past.

Oh well. At least they changed the policy previously and I can bring on 2 bottles of nice wine instead :)
