pelkoger Posted September 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2018 are they any good beaches to visit on the Panama Canal Cruise
riffatsea Posted September 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2018 IF you tell folks what ports you are stopping at then they can tell you which ones have great beaches. It is hard to give advice without knowing where you are stopping??
Kamloops50 Posted September 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Is it a full or partial transit?
CruiserBruce Posted September 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Or you could look on the boards for the ports involved. That would give you the most comprehensive info. Not sure why we would know what other ports you are asking about...
BillB48 Posted September 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2018 If you are on a partial then if you are calling on any of the ABC islands and Georgetown would be your best beaches. Cartagena, the Canal/Colon and Limon not so much. Full transit, the same same selections as above and on the Pacific side the better choices would be in Mexico. pelkoger Posted September 18, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Puerto Quetzal Puerto Vallarta’s Colon Cartagena Cabo. Want to get off ship and take a taxi to beach club or something like that. Thanks
BillB48 Posted September 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Even though you are near the ocean in Puerto Quetzal, I did not see much, really don't know for sure. Cartagena has beach but I did not think it was very good, at least what I saw. Colon, you are about a hour away from anywhere you might wish to swim and the beach is more suited for locals. Think your best bet would be in PV or Cabo.
riffatsea Posted September 18, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Agree that Cabo or Puerto Vallarta will have best beaches on your itinerary.
cb at sea Posted September 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2018 There are NO beaches in the canal. This cruise is all about the Panama Canal...not so much about beaches!
pelkoger Posted September 20, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted September 20, 2018 No kidding I really thought we would go swimming in the canal. I asked about ports.
Relaxedfun Posted November 8, 2018 #11 Share Posted November 8, 2018 Puerto Vallarta - we love the Las Caletas excursion. See if it is available from your ship. All day at a beautiful swimming beach, food, drinks, jungle, water sports. And a boat ride across Banderas Bay (look for whales). We have been there 3 times in 5 years. Watch out for the gators when you swim in the canal. They love Long Islanders because they are crunchy.
Rare shark&minnow Posted November 12, 2018 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2018 Agree with Puerto Vallarta excursion above and Puerto Vallarta has many beaches. Cabo also has beaches with excursions or you can go to the Medano Beach area on your own. Medano is where the beach bars are. You can taxi over or there are little boats (panga boats?) that will take you across the bay to the beach. Check the Mexican Riviera board for these ports. I also remember a beach excursion being offered in Costa Rica. Also if you are stopping in Nicaragua I have heard there is a man made beach there, but I have not been yet.
