Kiwi Kruzer Posted October 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2017 Agents newsletters are featuring sailings on QM2 from Tauranga to Sydney/Brisbane. I checked the schedules and sure enough she will overnight at Tauranga and then visit Bay of Islands , bypassing Auckland, Wonder if this is to allow for provisioning of the ship, as Tauranga is ideal ?. Docker123 Posted October 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2017 There is a thread on the Cunard board. Says the QM cannot use the Jellico wharf they used to in Auckland so have decided to bypass. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=54175434&postcount=

I wondered why as some itineraries still show Auckland. Cunard may have to run a fleet of busses .. , but its still a 21/2 hr drive between Ak and Tauranga,. There is talk that one day the Port of Auckland will have to move , so that it can accommodate the big ships that will come. Marsden Point at Whangarei is the favoured one as it has excellent deep water access. The present Oil refinery is there also.
Rare MMDown Under Posted October 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Did you notice they didn't say how far south east of Auckland, Tauranga is? Would make me think twice about joining the ship in Auckland.
