Electrical outlets on Vista class ships

Hi, we are cruising on the Zuiderdam to the Panama Canal in February, and I wanted to take my Kindle and a few other things that need electrical outlets. Are the outlets in the Zuiderdam cabins compatible with American plugs, etc.? 110 v or 220? Please let me know to work around this . Thanks!

American plugs and 110v on the Vista Oosterdam and I believe there were two outlets at the desk area, but we always bring a power strip and/or a multiprong extension cord because some times the outlet are too close to the edge of the desk that large plug-ins converter things for some appliances do not fit into the space allowed by the wall outlet.

For the past year or two, HAL has indicated in the Know Before You Go info that they do not want passengers to bring their own power bars/cords ... HAL now provides multi-plug power strips for passengers who request them. Don't know how many might be on any ship and whether HAL ever runs out of them, so we request a strip from our cabin steward embarkation day.

Following is the pertinent info from HAL's 2009 Know Before You Go:

"Electrical Appliances: All staterooms are equipped

with standard 110 AC and 220 AC outlets ... If more

outlet space is necessary, only Holland America Line

provided power bars are to be used. Please contact at

the Front Office for more information."

This is the standard plug arrangement.

Thank you for posting this. I have resurrected this thread to ask about the 220 volt "european" outlet. I cannot make out the configuration. Is it two round holes with a third hole for the "earth" or two round holes with a prong as the earth. We have one charger which requires earthing - it has three aussie type prongs - the charger is not compatible with 110 voltage - requires 220 minimum.

Thank you. We are booked on the Oosterdam out of Sydney on 7 November.

I don't think there is a third grounding or earthing prong. Far as I know the outlets take a standard European plug like the picture above.

Thanks Joanie....that's a more better picture than my old one.:) Think that clearly shows it's the standard, at least what I call standard, European electrical outlet.

Yes, there are outlets which are compatible with American plugs. This would be true of every HAL ship I have been on. (I have not been on the Noordam (yet) or the Prisendam.

Hope they got the answer earlier since they cruised nearly three years ago. :) Seems we've had a number of old threads brought forward lately.

All one has to do is bring an inexpensive European power adapter to have two USA-type power outlets at the desk. Many modern USA-type charging devices are compatible with European voltages (read the fine print on the actual plug-in device); they just need a mechanical plug adapter.

Thank you Randyk47 and Joanie. I will bring several adapters for US and European style outlets. We Aussies have added to the confusion by having our own style, so we need adapters wherever we travel, except in NZ and PNG.
