New Zealand currency

We will be spending a few days in Auckland prior to a Feb. cruise. Will I be able to dispose of leftover NZ dollars by using it to pay down my shipboard account? Would I incur extra fees or an unfavorable exchange rate? thanx

We have found that it is possible, but they will charge a fee and the exchange rate onboard the ship is probably the worst you will find anywhere.

I would aim to have as little NZ money left. You wll have already lost money when you bought it and Princess will really rip you off to take it off your hands.

As you will be spending a few days in Auckland, you'll find you'll have no trouble spending all your NZ currency.

Use what's left to pay part of your Auckland hotel bill instead of leaving it all on a credit card. Just keep enough to get you to the ship.

Just off Diamond in NZ and the ship exchange rates were terrible. You would lose between 10-15% if cashing in your NZ dollars onboard. If you did have some left over after paying your hotel bill etc you would be better changing it to USD cash at a foreign exchange bureau (not the hotel!) in Auckland.

 

But the best suggestion is buy some fantastic NZ wines and take them onboard to enjoy. More alcohol is always the right answer...lol
