Am I the only one who gets an Interior room?

I swear I am the only one who gets an Interior room :)

Is it that big of a difference from an Interior to a Balcony or Oceanview? We have only cruised once before on RCCL but we are going on a 12day March 7th on the Jade. It seems all the posts I see are people in Suites :P, now that I cannot do but was thinking if it is worth it maybe upgrading.

We always thought of it as we are on vacation and won't be in the room much as we like to attend all the shows and such. We are younger at 25 and 26 so are out and about a lot.

Any comments...suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

All 5, soon to be 6, of our cruises have been in inside cabins. Personally, I'm just happy to be on a ship! If you've been hanging out here on the NCL boards for some time and that's where you're noticing more suite chatter - there's a reason for that. Not only do people love the suites themselves, but they come with the best perks afloat from what I've read. I will probably never experience the "NCL suite life" and that's okay. I have 8 weeks of vacation a year and we travel alot, but only 1 cruise per year. And we are really big into "acting our wage".

It all comes down to priorities and personal choices.

Very well said. Maybe you also listen to Dave Ramsey - I love the "act your wage" line.

My husband did "Dave Ramsey" before Dave Ramsey did - and he didn't have to go bankrupt to do it! He was raised to pay cash for everything.

Me too......

If you can't pay off the entire card every month....then don't use it.

That's why I can afford the suite...but book the interior!

No, your not the only one to book an inside cabin. I like to cruise often so my budget only allows for an inside on most sailings but it also allows us to cruise more OFTEN!! But everyone is different in where they spend their time and money. I like to spend alot of money on the ship in the spa, casino and drinks!;) While others might spend more on their cabin bc they have a tendency to spend more time in there.

Our first cruise was partial OV and that was fine, I wasn't sure if we would even like to cruise -- all others have been balcony as we like to sit outside and read or take photos when the rest of the ship can be noisy and busy. Down side of the balcony besides the expense: neighbors having arguments with the doors open and you can hear them (yikes!) smokers next to you, humid climates depending on the time of year or blowing rain, etc. We have experienced all of this.

On our last cruise we wandered down to our floor while cleaning was still in progress, and took peaks into the interior cabins - except for the natural light, they were very nice looking and kind of cozy and very private. I think if money were tight (and DH says with 2 cruise planned this year, it certainly is:rolleyes:) then I would definitely book an inside to save money. Never say never, if it involves the chance at a cruise bargain... I think I've talked myself into the inside and will take 3 cruises in 2011:D

Now your talking! I think that is a great idea too! I wish I could book another this year. Have fun! I promise it isn't a balcony but you won't hate it. We just find that we spend less time in our cabin bc we can't see outside. We like to be up where the action is!

Cabin selection is a preference item and people can enjoy the cruise regardless of the class of cabin. We are about to go on our 4th cruise and have always had at least a balcony room. My wife loves the fresh air and sitting out their watching the ocean. We have also splurged for suites everytime but the first one (staying in AB 2 bedroom suite on the coming trip). Yes they are pricey but we like to splurge a little and really enjoy the extra room separate bedroom/bath for kids, etc. All a matter of preference but I like at least having a balcony where I can watch the ocean, coming into port, etc and get fresh air.

Thanks for all the responses to my question with 4 in an inside. I think I'll call NCL and see what they will charge for maybe a semi-suite or suite. I'll have to check out if the semi-suite would be any different with the wall to wall beds.

We have always booked inside cabins unless we get a free upgrade which we did twice-once on HAL and once on Princess-where we got a balcony! Never on NCL. We cruise a lot and I'd rather spend money on the excursions.

On our first cruise we had a porthole. It was okay, but what did we know. I was sure that we would always book an OV. But then one day we booked an inside because of the price. It was so wonderfully dark and quiet. The sleeping was great! So ever since we have booked inside guaranty, unless the price has been the same which has happened on occassion. We have never done a balcony and probably won't unless the upgrade fairy visits.

Like some have said already, I would rather book an inside and cruise twice a year. But thankfully we have other options for others.

I work with a physician who has traveled the world...in an inside cabin. He can afford the big suites but he refuses to do so. He has said many times that he gets to the ports the same time as those in the suites etc.

I love the lighting in the insides - they are bright and cheerful. I have an issue with claustrophobia - I need to see the outside as does my DH.

So...you are not alone.

My family is taking our first cruise in inside cabins this April. We had BofA points that would expire if I didn't book something by the end of January, so we started looking to see what we could afford. I started pricing 4 of us in an inside cabin. I noticed that it was a nominal difference between that and booking 2 of the lowest inside cabins. The kids are 13 and 14 so that made the most sense to me. We ended up booking KK gty and I noticed today that cabin #'s have been assigned. They're both J category on deck 8 of the Dawn. For the price we paid I'm very excited. I've worried some about not having a window but I'd much rather take the cruise that we can afford than sit at home. :)

I'm taking my family in a quad inside cabin but I have no worries about it. We all will enjoy the cruise because we all have great attitudes. I thought about getting an ocean view but couldn't see the point in spending over $350 for a little window.

$350 will buy enough drinks where I will be seeing more than a little window. I see all kind of things when I drink that much!

We have always booked inside cabins on our ten cruises. Once we were upgraded to a balcony on a Baltic Cruise. Anodther time we were put in a inside handicapped room. The extrta space was great. On two occasions we had an inside quad. We survived and used the saved money on shore.

The only NCL ship I wouldn't do an inside quad on and actually have four people is the Spirit. We did that going to Alaska. Never again. The Spirit was originally built for the Asian gambling ship market. As such, it only went out for a few days at a time, no storage, small beds. When we had four in that cabin, it was a very tight fit. On the Sun, we were fine.

Our first and what we thought would be our last cruise was in a balcony room (going all out for that once-in-a-lifetime trip). We were only able to really use the balcony while in port, it was WAY to windy to ever be enjoyable while moving. I did eat room service breakfast out there before heading to shore. Now, less than 5 years later, here we go again. This time bringing the kids and staying in an interior (all our excursion costs will now be x4) and really looking forward to being able to sleep in with no natural light. If I were going on a cruise with a slower itinerary with things immediately shipside to look at then I would consider staying in another outside room, i.e. Alaska or Panama Canal.

We have been on 12 cruises and have only had 2 balconies. Mainly because we could not afford a balcony and were happy to just be able to go on a cruise. We have had mostly inside and 2 OV. But I must say once you have had a balcony you don't want to go back to an inside.

On our upcoming cruise to the Eastern Mediterrean we will be at sea for 5 days so got a good price for the balcony. We just got back from 13 day New Zealand cruise out of Australia and we could not afford to get the balcony with the high airfare from the east coast of the US so went for the cheaper inside cabin. It definitely has its advantages like sleeping and taking naps. If we can afford the balcony and don't have to pay airfare then we usually book the balcony.

Good luck in your decision. Whatever it is you will have a great time on your cruise. A cruise is what you make of it. Happy sailing:)

We usually end up booking inside guarnteed rooms. Saves money and the room is mainly just used for sleep/shower for us so the cash is more important than our room. When we went on a cruise out of NYC we did book a balcony so we could get the views (the city, statue of liberty, etc), but that was one out of about 10 so far that we didn't do an inside room.

I also seem to be pretty lucky and usually get upgraded to a porthole window room for free since I guess others book the rest of the inside and my guarnteed room goes to the next lowest category. On my upcoming cruise in March I booked a GTY porthole (the inside cabins were all booked) and am currently in a balcony room according to their website...

In my mind inside cabins are fine, but booking a guarnteed room seems to be the way to go.

Other than our first cruise with Disney where we were visited by the upgrade fairy and got a free upgrade to an Ocean View, we have always sailed interiors. We have a limited vacation budget and I would rather use the money for shore excursions or future vacations.

For our 12 day cruise last year, we first booked an Oceanview, but they when there was a drastic price drop for interiors, we switched to two interiors instead of 4 of us in one ocean view.

Having said that, I wish we had done a balcony for Alaska since the view is always so amazing. Also, if we did a Panama canal cruise where we went through the Canal, I think I would want a balcony for that as well.

It's wonderful, everyone is different. :) I am extremely thankful for those people who have the priority of higher priced cabins. They certainly are the reason for my low cost inside. :)

I am a frequent traveler, traveling about 12 weeks/year. I don't care at all about the cabin- it's where I'm going, that is my priority. :) I have 4 cruises booked- so far this year. Next one is next week- which will make 63 cruises for me.
