Sailaways_ Posted January 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2010 Hey guys! I'm going on my first HAL cruise in March and I'm looking forward to being on a new cruiseline (to me ;)). Of course, it's always good to be prepared so I'm here to ask for advice. :) I'd love to hear what dishes you guys think are must haves onboard. Appetizers, soups, entrees, desserts, buffet, Pinnacle - what are your favs? Thanks guys!!

Gardyloo2 Posted January 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2010 The bread pudding, chocolate croissants, and excellent room service. And you can bring you own wine on board (but don't try to bring any hard liquor) Have fun!
SwissMyst Posted January 26, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2010 French onion soup Room service club sandwich Fresh baked breads Perfect, flaky, cripsy croisssants Powder sugar donuts German stollen for the holidays Chilled soups All of these are extremely well done. And I like their house "champagne" (white sparkling using the wine card)

gainesvillegatorgirl Posted January 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2010 The duck quesadilla appetizer, if it's still on the menu in the MDR. I think I ordered three last time :D

IRL_Joanie Posted January 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2010 Fruit soups. OMG they are to die for, especially the berry ones. Bread Pudding, Escargot, Lobster, Lobster and Mac and Cheese, HAL's Cinnamon Rolls, Filet Mignon (I think others have called them Steak Diane), Reuben Sandwiches, WAFFLES, Panama Buns, and if they serve it on your ship/cruise; the Salmon Wellington. And so much more I cannot remember them all. Joanie
peaches from georgia Posted January 26, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2010 I agree with a previous poster about the Room Service Club Sandwich. One of the best things served on the ship and definetely the best thing on the RS menu. And don't miss the French Onion Soup from RS either. sail7seas Posted January 26, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 26, 2010 I really enjoy the 'always available' on the menu every night grilled salmon. I also really enjoy the way they prepare salmon in Pinnacle. Last March on Eurodam, every time we walked through Lido at lunchtime, I noticed the lasagna. I love it but almost never allow myself to eat it but gave in one day and it was great. So good, I made DH try a piece the next day and he loved it also. usha Posted January 26, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2010 So many great suggestions! One thing I tasted on HAL that just knocked my socks off, (even though it sounds so ordinary) was the macaroni & cheese appetizer. Man, oh, man, was that incredible!:D
Travrat Posted January 26, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 26, 2010 The eggs benedict station at the breakfast buffet is excellent. There are at least 6 different types available-all yummy! The rack of lamb in the MDR, the hoisin glazed seabass in Tamarind and almost all of the Thai, Indian, Indonesian dishes.

kakalina Posted January 26, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 26, 2010 OMG the baked brie is to die for. The escargot also. The dessert souffles with the hard sauce, I loved the Beef Wellington. The PG has crab cakes that are amazing as is the white Clam Chowder. Oh! and the tri flavored creme brulee. I can't wait until March. 33 days of amazing food. 2ptu/000 Posted January 26, 2010 #23 Share Posted January 26, 2010 Haven't heard anyone else say they are a favorite but I really thought the pancakes at breakfast were wonderful. The fresh squeezed OJ is delicious. Of course, the bread pudding. Oh, don't forget the Muscili. Probably spelled it wrong but it is really delicious. Also love the chilled soups. On our last cruises -- no Beef Wellington -- No Nasi Goreng -- No Dutch Pea Soup -- No Bami Goreng.
