SheriAZ Posted February 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I keep hearing how busy I can be on a ship. Busy doing what? I know there are shows at night, I know there are pools and a casino. I will probably take 5 minutes to lose my gambling money, so the casino won't be my biggest thrill. I don't love Bingo but might play a little. I don't consider sitting around the pool being busy, but will do that if I can get a chair. I like to think I'll take some long walks around the ship. Are there lots of activities I don't know about? Leaving on the 23rd. I'm so excited I can't stand it.

All the cruise lines publish a daily newsletter filled with different activites. Look in your chosen line's forum for links to them. There should be classes, games, movies, wine and/or beer tastings, etc.
Rare silentbob007 Posted February 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2010 You can be busy doing whatever you want to ... that's the great thing about cruising. On sea days (and on other days to in a limited fasion) there are scheduled activities from morning through night. You can participate in as many or few as you desire. Rare Roz Posted February 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Things I've done a cruise - bartending class, trivia, craft classes, onboard lectures, cooking demos, manicure, board games, name that tune in piano bar, etc. Roz
cb at sea Posted February 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I consider being "busy" on vacation sitting by the pool, reading, drinking and people-watching! Depending on your ship, you may have putt-putt golf, wine tastings, ice sculpting exhibitions, and there's always the gym, if you're so inclined! CanWeGoYet? Posted February 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Sit on the balcony & read, or watch the ocean & sky, enjoy the air. Walk around the ship, people watch, chat with new friends, try to get my bearings and not get lost! Take a dance class, work out in the gym, enjoy the pool or hot tub, catch some rays in a sheltered spot on a sunny day. Go to the shows in the evening, or the piano lounge, get a coffee or a pina colada. Go to the clubs at night, dance if I like the music. Check out the sushi bar. And eat! I hate to think of how much time devotes to getting ready for the next meal. Oh that's right - forgot getting a massage, or doing my own nails if they need a touch up. I like the afternoon teas too. I was never bored.
Johnthed0g Posted February 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2010 To be honest we have never found anything of any interest whatsoever to do during the day. There are loads of things going on but none of it holds any interest at all. We are quite happy though, wandering about or sitting on the balcony or open decks if space & a peaceful spot is available.

bar_20 Posted February 9, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2010 You could meet the love of your life on the first day and you won't have to worry about what to do all day!:D
SheriAZ Posted February 9, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks! I'm a little restless and don't relax very well. I think I will have lots to do.
simplelife Posted February 9, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Sample of what I've done: Onboard shopping/browsing; wine/liquor tastings; bingo; afternoon tea; listening to music performances (house band, pool band, jazz band, classical combo, piano bar); Dancing; Parties (Catain's, past-guest); Sunning; hot tubbing & swimming; thermal spa (Mineral pool, heated lounger, sauna); salon (Manicure/ pedicure; facial); playing trivia; reading; walking the ship; eating & drinking; watching movies; sleeping; galley tour, napkin folding, and Ice sculpture carving demonstrations; lectures and port talks; board games; watching pool games; Religious services; watching games (newlywed, etc), talent shows, and crew shows. Attending evening shows (Las Vegas Shows, Broadway Revue; variety; comedian; magician; skating); people-watching and getting to know people. Many ships have sports activities, but I usually don't do them.
Fredr Posted February 9, 2010 #14 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Sheri, I surely hope that you understand that a cruise isn't about how much there is to do, because there is a lot to do. The ship's staff isn't going to be there to hold your hand, or yell "time for the mile run". It is your responsibility to find interesting fun (to you) things to do. Most likely you will meet people and do some things together...have a drink and some conversation or maybe play cards. You may find an especially nice bar and bartender with whom you like to talk with. I suggest that you do find some good books to read , because reading on a cruise ship is a special treat. And as someone suggested you might find the love of your life and time then won't matter. Don't forget the sunrises and sunsets.
SheriAZ Posted February 10, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I didn't expect my hand held, just wanted an idea of the activities that might be available. I already have my highlighter so I can carefully read the newsletter, and highlight my choices. I love board games, especially trivial pursuit. I'm restlesss, not physically fit, so won't be doing jumping jacks all day! Thanks for your responses
Carolin Posted February 10, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 10, 2010 My first cruise we booked a Southern Caribbean 8-day port intensive (only 2 sea days out of San Juan). I couldn't wait for a sea day to actually relax. hahaha If you really want to be busy.. thats the cruise for you.
GORDONCHICK Posted February 10, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 10, 2010 When you board the ship, a copy of the ship's paper (called different things on different lines - Carnival Capers, Princess Patters, etc)should be in your cabin. Each evening, the one for the next day will magically appear. They are a wealth of information should you choose to read over them. There will be info about the officers and ship, port, excursions, specials being run all over the ship, and a daily schedule. That daily schedule will have something going on all the time. Times and locations are listed. I like to bring a highlighter with me and highlight the things I'm interested in. DH is content to sit somewhere and read forever, but I'm usualy out and about.
