Are handheld clothes steamers allowed on board?

I've brought a small hand held steamer on several cruises and left it out in the open. Nobody has ever said anything about it.

In previous threads, some posters have indicated that their hand steamers were confiscated. Not supposed to be against the rules, but they said they had problems none-the-less. Must depend on the screener. So I suggest bringing an inexpensive one just in case.

Yes, they're allowed. If they try to take it away ask for a supervisor and remind them that they sell them on board.

I just called Customer Service and asked and I was told they are not allowed. :confused:

Good advice. We always take a steamer and with the exception of one time on the Serenade we have never had an issue. We had to go and claim our bag because of the steamer. I pointed out that they sell them in the gift shop and we left with our suit case and the steamer.

Just got back from sailing serenade and had my steamer in my carry on bag. No problems getting it on the ship...although I didn't use it at all.

We have always taken a little hand held steamer....we've not had a problem.

 

We always use it for the dress shirts and formal stuff.

 

I say "try it" and then as the other poster stated, if they try to confiscate it let them know they sell them in the gift shop.

Have brought mine past 9 cruises in carry-on, and not one question about it. Leave it sitting out in room all week of every sailing...no questions either. Go for it!

Don't hang your clothes on the sprinkler hardware to get the wrinkles out. Some years ago, some poor soul did that and when the steam tripped the heat sensors it rained cats and dogs in his stateroom...:(

Check Target, Walmart, etc... and they're probably within budget. Not sure of the cost onboard, but if they're priced like items such as, toothpaste, sunscreen, etc... they'll be very expensive :(

I also have a Rowneta Steamer that is sold as a travel steamr, but I think it's too big and heavy to pack. The above little one is just fine, but do not overfill it, I noticed the first comment on the page was a warning but I think they overfilled it.

 

However, I pack our clothing in dry cleaner bags and packing folders and rarely have to steam anything.
