Accra & Rockley Beach?

OK please explain are Rockley and Accra - the same beach?

Which is the beach that the Hilton's on?

 

Anyone have any problems leaving their bags unattended on the beach while swimming?

Along that stretch of coast it's all the same beach really, but Accra & Rockley are the same thing. Leaving stuff unattended is always a risk!

Rockley Bay and Rockley Beach are host to Accra Beach Hotel towards the Western end of the beach.

 

Over the years, us locals have always just called it "Accra"

which is why I now very often write it as Accra/Rockley.

Yes, the two are the same beach..

 

and no you shouldn't have any trouble leaving your stuff on the beach while you go in for a dip not fifty yards away.

Most people rent chairs and an umbrella,

and just roll up their stuff in a beach towel(out of sight = out of mind?) when they go for a dip.

 

However I wouldn't recommend you leave all your stuff

when going for a ramble down the boardwalk, which starts at the Western end of the beach..

I'd take the valuables and leave towel, shirts that sort of stuff.

I'd take my wallet, camera: leave gold Rolex and jewellery on the ship for evening wear,

 

Go ashore with a cheap but reliable watch.

Use common sense! ;)

Dover is about 1 mile East of Accra/Rockley.

 

Hilton is about 2 miles WEST of Accra/Rockley (and about halfway to the ship).

Ask for Rockley Beach, not Accra Hotel.

It's a difference of about 100 yards, if that.

So if I understand this correctly

Accra is the best beach for us to visit and is it the one where the boatyard starts?

A taxi will take us to the beach but ask for Rockley Beach not Accra Hotel?

Will this put us near the Accra Hotel and the boardwalk?

Is it far from the port?

Can we pay as a day guest at the Accra Hotel do you know?

 

We have been recommended to the bougainvillea resort for a day pass but I think it is quite expensive?

What would you recommend?

 

We have been to Barbados a few times - to Escape, Paynes Beach and Boatyard and the Cricket ground last year for the test match. Want to do something different

Boatyard is in Carlisle bay...a commercial area for tourist fun.

If you walk into Accra Hotel for a drink no-one is going to say anything.

If you want to go to Rockley/Accra beach just ask the driver.

I think it is too far to walk from the pier to Accra

Sorry if this is a little off topic but I was told to reply to an existing message and was blocked from starting a new thread.

 

Anyway, on a cruise last April my husband and I had other commitments and could only spend a few hours at a beach. So, we caught a taxi and asked him to take us to Accra / Rockley. Can one of you oh so very helpful folks from Barbados tell me if the pictures below are of Rockley beach, and if so which way is the Boardwalk?

I have looked through lots of Aplmac's Rokley pictures and viewed the utube walk on the boardwalk suggested by Johnthedog and I am beginning to think that maybe we weren't on Rockley at all. If we were on Rockley were we on the far end? I'd really like to see the boardwalk and have a flying fish sandwich from the grillin place. Also, is there any area of Rockley that might have some decent snorkeling?

I am planning to go to Rockley Beach from the ship. Here are my questions:

 

1. How long will it take to get to the beach from the ship via cab?

 

2. Is it easy to catch a return cab to the ship from the area?

 

3. How much should the cab ride cost in us $.

 

4. If I want to rent chairs and be close to a place to buy some lunch what spot should I tell the cab driver to drop me off at?

 

5. Lastly if this beach is not convenient to do the above can you recommend a beach that would be worth going to other than Carlyle Bay?

We (4 of us) will be in Barbados during th 1st week in June. We are currently deciding between Accra Rockley Beacg and Boatyard Beach. We like that these beaches offer a variety of activities to do. Which, in your opinion is the best beach? How much should we expect to pay for a taxi to and from the pier? Also, is it easy to catch a taxi from Accra/Rockley Beach? I am leaning towards this beach due to the vendors selling local crafts and different places to eat.
