Rare Coral Posted April 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2010 It was supposed to be released (not open) this week but got pushed back. Not sure when but hope it is this month.
cherylakers Posted April 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Do they rotate the ships in Alaska from year to year? I see in 2010 the Diamond is doing the north bound/south bound cruise. Sapphire is doing round trip Seattle. I am hoping they swap for next year. We have been on the Diamond and would like the Sapphire this time. I know they are sister ships, but I just like to try a different ship.
suamom Posted April 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2010 Waiting, waiting, waiting for the Alaska 2011 (June or July) to be released. A gift for my DH's 40th so want to get it booked early.
happylady Posted April 12, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted April 12, 2010 We were originally booked for the Carnival Spirit May 2010. As the ship filled we tried to add our college age son to our room, but the cost (due to a needed room upgrade) almost doubled our cost. :( So, we decided to wait and try again May 2011. We know we want to fly into Seattle, so we're looking for a Seattle or Vancouver round trip.
Kamloops50 Posted April 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2010 I think a lot of cruise lines are holding back there Alaska schedule for 2011. The governor is trying to reduce the passenger tax .If this happens the cruise lines MIGHT increase or keep the number of ships in Alaska. If not all the Carnival Lines (HAL , Princess and Carnival) will probably reduce the number of ships

gregandamy Posted April 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2010 My TA called his Princess rep. this morning to check on this for me and they said that the 2011 Alaska dates will be out the first week of May. I guess we will have to wait a few more weeks!:(

Italy52 Posted April 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2010 According to her signature, it is a China to Alaska trip. Thanks Coral. As you can tell, I am getting a little desperate for information. Still a toss up between Princess and RCI --- might do a longer cruise this time --- maybe the 14-day one but want to see pricing first.

If not all the Carnival Lines (HAL , Princess and Carnival) will probably reduce the number of ships  It would be nice if the passenger tax came down, but I suspect the cruise lines are more concerned about the 33% tax on casino revenues and other taxes and fees which are NOT directly passed on to the passengers. (though they are indirectly of course!)
Kamloops50 Posted April 15, 2010 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2010 HAL , RCI and NCL posted there Alaska Cruises for 2011. Already booked for a 14 day cruise on HAL for June 2011:cool:
NancyIL Posted April 15, 2010 #16 Share Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks Coral. As you can tell, I am getting a little desperate for information. Still a toss up between Princess and RCI --- might do a longer cruise this time --- maybe the 14-day one but want to see pricing first. I just booked the 14-night on HAL Amsterdam for 2011. :) I looked at the itineraries of Princess's 3 small ships for 2011 to see if one would do the 14-night Connoisseur cruises. The Ocean and Pacific Princess will be in Europe, and the last cruise listed for the Royal Princess is from Tahiti to Ft. Lauderdale - ending in early May. Unless Princess plans to have a larger ship do the 14-night cruises, there may be none in 2011. **Looking at the Royal Princess's 2010 itineraries, I suppose it could reposition from Ft. Lauderdale to Seattle in May 2011. It just seems odd for it to travel from the Pacific to FL, and then back through the Panama Canal to Seattle. Nancy - I just saw your post ---- I am so jealous of you! :D:D What a wonderful itinerary! Would LOVE to do the HAL trip but too expensive for the category we want ---DH REALLY loves the balcony in Alaska. Was hoping that Princess would have something attractive but nothing posted yet --- so, for now, we booked the Radiance so we could get a good cabin --- can always change later if something better comes along. cruisin36 Posted April 15, 2010 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2010 Take this for what it is worth. It was told to me by the Port Lecturer on the Ruby (Lawrence Klausener) who by the way was so full his eyes were brown, that no cruise ships will be going to Alaska anymore because of the high tariffs and taxes Alaska is placing on them. I am sure he was just trying to impress folks at the lunchtable with his wonderful knowledge of cruising. Please do not take this as the truth in any way. Rare Tapi Posted April 15, 2010 #19 Share Posted April 15, 2010 Well, Celebrity just posted their Alaska itineraries. We just put a deposit down for September 2011. I have to say that we've had our eyes set on cruising Alaska on Princess for a looong time. However, because Princess has not published their Alaska itineraries yet, we stared browsing itineraries and prices on the other cruise lines. That's how we stumbled on the Celebrity itinerary that we booked today. Turns out that Celebrity's prices were lower than what we've seen so far on Norwegian, RCI, or Carnival. I'm still going to check on Princess when they post their itneraries, and if they offer something comparable to what we currently booked but at a lower price, we may switch. Princess has too much invested in Alaska with their lodges to ever drop that as a cruise destination. Besides, you can tell from the Princess itineraries that at least the Diamond will be in Alaska in May 2011: http://www.princess.com/find/itineraryDetails.do?voyageCode=M110A&tourCode=&date=0511&noOfPax=2&resType=C&definition_name=

Karen Karen, since you're doing a northbound cruise on RCI, you could always do a southbound on Princess on Saturday or Monday - going to Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier. I agree that the HAL balconies are pricey, and that's why I don't book balcony cabins! I booked an OV cabin because there will be 3 of us sharing a cabin, and the OVs are slighty larger. It just seems odd for it to travel from the Pacific to FL, and then back through the Panama Canal to Seattle.Unfortunately, the Royal is leaving the Princess fleet. After Ft. Lauderdale, she moves to drydock in the Bahamas, I believe, to be rebranded as a P&O ship. I'm considering doing the 14 day connoisseur later this year since it very well may be the last chance to do so on Princess. HAL is still offering the similar 14-day Alaska Adventure Cruise on the Amsterdam, but, though a smaller ship, she's twice the capacity of the Royal. This guy was so phony his stories about his wonderfulness varied from sentence to sentence and from things he told me at lunch and things he told others at dinner. His attendance level at his "enrichment lectures" were not well attended. I think he made up a resume and a show just to get free cruises.
