How about that - a 20% deposit on suites

Actually, I would prefer to keep that much money in an interest bearing account rather than giving it for a deposit for a cruise that may be more than a year away. Why are you happy about it? People can still cancel and get the money back, so if they are not sure about going on the cruise, they will still tie up the cabin.

I'm not sure when it started, but they finally listened to me - reserved a Vista for a 2011 sailing and a 20% deposit is now required.

I don't know where you got your information since my deposit for a deck 9 VS on the Marina for the SF to Miami sailing (02/26/2011) was $1500.

It is a 20% deposit started back a few months ago. If you paid $1500 someone made an error or it wasnt a policy yet.

Believe Ted (Hrprof) is pleased as they prefer booking the OS and VS, by raising the

deposit amt, believe Ted thinks more serious cruisers will book OS or VS and

thus leave more availability for those Oceania cruisers who are serious about

booking & ultimately sailing vs booking (tying up the OS or VS) and then

cancelling.

Is there such a thing as an interest bearing account these days?? ;)

I doubt that the TA that I was dealing with at the time of the booking made a mistake. The agency is CCC - I believe just like yours.

I find it interesting that nothing was published about the ridiculous increase in the deposit for an OS or VS. In fact, if you look on the inside of the back cover of the Marina 2011 Inaugural Winter Collection brochure, under Deposit and Payments, it states $750 USD per person. SO much for keeping the potential pax.informed.

With a 20% deposit on a VS or OS, which is all DW & I book, our days with O might be coming to a close.

As always, you hit the nail on the head.

Now considerating a bit of a dilemma! I booked a GS on Regent Navigator for the SFO-NYC Panama Canal trip in 9/11 then O unveiled a virtually identical 21 day trip on Regatta leaving leaving SFO 3 days earlier. I reserved a Vista (gotta face forward in Canal as well as NY harbor!) for that trip. Strange that a company owning both lines chooses to compete with each other. Everything in, R is 58% more expensive (34K vs 21K) than O, not considering all inclusive benefits. Which would you choose? Suite and balcony space are just about equal between the two. Gotta decide before Wednesday. Any other opinions?

Hi Ted, believe your fortunate decision is a november bravo (no brainer) would go with O (unless it is a very special event 25th/50th wedding anniversary and you want to indulge your bride and your self to the all inclusive nature of Regent (believe u gave me this advice when considering O for a SA cruise a few years ago). In reality, we/you're just very fortunate in times like these to have such a wonderful dilemma. Also, push came to shove, you could flip a coin and not go wrong with either choice. Ted, you have sailed both and are in the best position to make the right decision. We can't wait to sail on our first Oceania cruise--Marina's maiden voyage in January.

You're probably right - this is not a major event cruise - just attracted to the east bound canal trip (did the west bound cruise on R Mariner a while back) and spending time in SFO at the start and NYC at the end. I just have a problem with signing for everything - but, you pay a huge premium in this case. The included Shore Ex feature on R has limited value since we have hit every port on this cruise previously. R includes Fort Lauderdale as a stop which is really strange! So, we'll see.

Please promise that you will provide a review of your Marina cruise - it looks wonderful!

Found it kind of tough to take my foot out of my mouth since I was enjoy the taste.:o

Yes, there is a 20% deposit on OS and VS starting with the 2011 summer season. What is puzzling to those with whom I talked, O dropped this increase without any public notification. If one looks at the summer brochure, there is no mention of any deposit. period.

Wonder who in Florida will contact their AG and complain about the increase without the "proper" notification. As for me, either pay it in the deposit or pay it with the final deposit.

Still going to Alaska in an OS on 08/28/2011.:D

Interesting that you secured 7119. When my TA contacted me at 6:30 am PDT on 08/28, she said that the 4 lower OSs were blocked for VIPs..and her agency is CCC - Cruise Connoisseur Club. Are you one of them?

In my own mind I am! LOL! I had requested that my TA request that particular cabin a few days before the 28th. He seems to have some pull at "O".

So which one did you get for yourself? Friends of friends will be next to us in 7121.
